  1. Also, I would not take Pods over Coco based on batting average alone either. In my opinion a very overrated stat. When you look at career numbers Pods barely beat out Coco in key leadoff stats and then if you factor in defensive and base running ability (not steals), I would think Coco comes out ahead. If Coco is healthy, not only will he probably be cheaper but he might even be a better option given his defensive advantage and similiar offensive stats. I do agree we need someone like Matsui to offset a Coco's lack of power, but I think IF he is healthy, he is our best option at this point. Career stats OBP SLG OPS OPS+ Pods .340 .381 .720 87 Coco .331 .407 .738 94
  2. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) Crisp is the vastly superior base runner and defender. If he's healthy there's no doubt in my mind who I take. This is the exact reason I don't want Pods back. Our defense has enough problems as is..another year of Pods in LF or on the bases would just be an adventure I don't want to take. Give me Covelli Crisp any day over Pods.
  3. QUOTE (qwerty @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 04:40 PM) Mark Teahan's curious deal. Pretty good assessment by Fangraphs. Pretty much echoes a lot of the sentiment shown here that is a good value sign given his arbitration status and what he would have made.
  4. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 04:26 PM) Adam Everett re-signed with the Tigers. Don't know the terms of the deal just yet. Good re-signing for them. Is that Sizemore kid going to play 2B for them with no Polanco or are they going to sign someone?
  5. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) Ugh I hope KW acts sooner rather than later. Seeing people constantly complaining about the OF ad nauseum on December 7th is getting ridiculous. Fixed. Agreed. What is Ozzie supposed to say at this point? Like Kal said...they only have 2 starting OFers right now.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 12:02 PM) FWIW, people have been saying this about the Royals for years now. It still hasn't happened. The Starting Pitching will be there, but they still need bullpen help and some more offensive power I think to really compete in 2-3 years.
  7. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 03:10 PM) Eh, 4/$40M was about what I expected. Precedent set that as the price for a player of his stature. $35M is a good deal for the mariners, they really will not hesitate to throw big money around. If $35-$36M is what Figgins ends up getting. What does this mean for Beltre? What should he expect?
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) The money is lower for Figgens than I thought it would be. I would have thought 4/$40 was going to be minimum.
  9. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 12:38 PM) Rotoworld is on fire right now. They must of had to let go of people that know what is going on and hired some monkeys to type.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 10:42 AM) The Phils wanted Figgins but I guess his asking price was too high. I assume Beltre's was too, but this is a pretty hefty price to pay. He's an offensive upgrade over Feliz, but a major defensive downgrade. I also think 3yrs 18M is pretty ridiculous considering he's a well below league average third baseman. I am a little confused by this myself. Even if he is an offensive upgrade over Feliz, given the price Feliz would cost and his defensive abilities at 3B over Polanco, wouldn't Feliz actually be more valuable than Polanco? I don't really get this one at all.
  11. No thank you. As everyone has already stated...he is not even worth Alexei straight up. Again...no thanks.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 09:33 AM) So Scutaro is on the BoSox, so now Pedroia is officially a SS? Generally you are moved from that position to second because your range is questionable, no? Or could Scutaro move to 3B? Is Lowell out of the picture? Why would they get an average defensive 2B and replace a GG winner (I think Pedroia has won 1) with him? That would not make much sense to me. Pedroia has really good range for a 2B...but as a SS? Not too sure about that.
  13. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 03:07 PM) Seriously, someone help me. Did they change the rules to free agent compensation and no one told me? From Rotoworld: Beltre is a type B free agent. They have to be mistaken. That would be pretty big news if they changed that.
  14. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) Career Stats are pretty even RH vs LH but slighty better vs LH. If the Sox resign Thome, I could see Jones DH'ing against lefties. vs RHP: .256 .331 .485 .815 vs LHP: .261 .361 .499 .859 I probably wouldn't be too opposed to that. But I would accept it only after all other options are explored, which I believe KW covered in his..."the DH role might not be solved until the end of free agency" (paraphrased of course). I would believe Thome would be an end of FA choice at this point.
  15. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 03:33 PM) As long as hes not gonna be counted on as a starter it should be no risk. I don't want another Erstad situation where a scrub is getting 350 ABs. I think its pretty unlikely that he will have a big year though. I think pretty much everyone here can agree with him NOT being counted on as a starter.
  16. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) The Sox are the only team really doing anything right now, the fun doesn't normally until the Winter meetings (Dec. 7th-10th) but Kenny likes to get work done around the holidays. I think what he is doing is securing the bench and himself some backup plans in case things don't work out like he wants them too, which is smart on his part. He has way more moveable parts than before, Teahen (3B, RF, Util), Jones (RF, LF, DH), Vizquel (SS, 2B, 3B) in case of injury or not being able to get the guy he wants. Granted Jones and Vizquel will hopefully only be bench guys, but he has some security now. Instead of high price players...it appears he is going after more affordable players. Let's just hope that includes another lefty 1B/DH (Matsui, LaRoche) or the less likely bigger trade splash of (Gonzalez, Dunn).
  17. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 03:22 PM) You're forgetting who our manager is. Ha. Yeah I forgot about that part. But given the strength of each players arms....it wouldn't even make sense for a little league manager to put Crisp in CF, Rios in RF, and Quentin in LF. None of them are in the position where they can succeed the most.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 03:17 PM) Well yeah, most lineups with 7 guys would look pretty weak. We are still missing two guys. Very true....but that is not what I really meant. I am assuming that one of those 2 spots is going to be a "speed" or leadoff guy or *shudder* possibly even Danks. That to me makes that other spot almost HAVE to be someone that has some power or like I said at worst a guy like Matsui.
  19. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 02:05 PM) Crisp would really need to play LF, his arm in center would cost the team a ton of bases over the course of a season. I'm late to the party....but wouldn't the outfield be LF Crisp, CF Rios, RF Quentin be almost a certainty if Crisp is signed? It is the most logical.
  20. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) Walker will fix him. Andruw Jones is king of the lift and pull....no fixing needed.
  21. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) Great signing for the bench. He offers a different skill-set the complements Vizquel and Kotsay well. This really might give Lillibridge an edge over Nix if they decide to go five deep with the bench. Also, I'm really interested what KW is planning for that final outfield spot. Hopefully they aren't bringing in another veteran outfielder because they think Jordan Danks has a chance of being ready opening day. That would be a huge disaster. KW still needs to get a legit starting outfielder so that Jones and Kotsay remain on the bench, where they have value. This is probably the reason why most people are positive....it is based on the IF he is a bench player. IF he is the starting LFer....no one will be happy. Maybe they are still looking into Coco Crisp for LF and leadoff...who knows. If they do that...they better sign a power hitter for DH..or Matsui at the worst.
  22. I like it....as a bench player. This team still needs bullpen help and some more home runs. That lineup is still looking pretty weak at the present moment.
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) With three very small moves, Williams has upgraded both the White Sox infield offense and the defense off of the bench too, and it seems to me that they are looking much better all-around already. Teahen is an improvement over Getz/Nix offensively and if he can put up anything similar to either his 2009 or 2007 season, Sox fans should be happy. Now you bring in a player in Vizquel who is fundamentally fantastic, plays fantastic defense, and isn't going to embarrass himself as a hitter so long as it's off of the bench, and Kotsay is just fine off of the bench as a 1B/OF type, so long as he remains in the corner outfield spots and doesn't start too much. He can also pinch run for Konerko or whoever else late in games, and that may buy the Sox an extra couple runs throughout the entirety of a season. I have absolutely no problems with what Williams has done at all this offseason. Agree on a couple conditions, which knowing Williams, I assume is in the works somehow. They definitely need at least 1 power hitter, preferably from the left side. Matsui would be a great choice for DH in my opinion, but they would still need some sort of power in RF. The last condition is some bullpen help. These 2 are definite musts in my opinion in order to compete next year. KW definitely must see the same things we have been clamoring for in his additions of defense and his alleged inquiry into Adrian Gonzalez.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 01:58 PM) Now we should leave Beckham at third, Omar at ss, Lexi at second and Teahen our do everything reserve. Omar plays for us one year then the following year we get another vet ss. It makes perfect sense. Teahen is not the answer at 3B, but he is a great great utility guy. Cmon Sox, do the right thing. Lexi should be our second baseman for the next 10 years. Gordon is great at third. Gross. I just threw up a little in my mouth looking at that. Vizquel is definitely NOT a full time hitter.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 04:02 PM) We just have to get used to the fact we are going to trade minor leaguers, our top prospects. It's OK to do that, I just wish we wouldn't hear so much about our prospects, if we're ultimately going to deal them away. It used to be you didn't hear much about prospects. Unless they are named Beckham or have Beckham like talent, we apparently will deal our top prospects. Nothing's wrong with that, but it is a shock to the system when we trade guys we hear so much about. also You said: Konerko has almost no value at this point, he'll provide you decent production from the first base position (right around league average if you're lucky) while making nearly twice as much as he should." I guess I can buy the "no value" thing if you are talking about money. But the kind of year he had last year seems "valuable" to me. He wasn't half bad. It's not like every regular in the majors has more "value" than Konerko. I mean, what is value?? Does Rios have "value?" What is AJ's "value?" Does Granderson still have "value?" Just curious what you mean. I can't talk for Kalapse...but given his salary, age, position and stats comparable to other players at that salary and position, Konerko has little to no value.
