  1. Adrian Beltre....you are ridiculous. What an arm!
  2. Mariners need a Short CF tonight. How many hits can we get up the middle?
  3. Even though it is against us, it is fun to watch dominating stuff. Hopefully we can see it first hand every 5 days when Peavy comes back!!
  4. Boy Felix has world class stuff working tonight. Any righty that gets a hit tonight...kudos to them.
  5. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 06:17 PM) Hank Blalock, now this guy is the wild card. He has been suffering injuries the past few years. When he is healthy, he is a good power lefty. Two powerful lefties makes me cum (and it probably makes ozzie cum too). This is assuming he doesnt have any bad injuries though. After all, we have a miracle worker on our staff. Herm is the greatest. I really like this guy for a lefty DH/1B over 3B. Another guy to keep an eye on would be Adam LaRoche. These guys won't hit homers at a Jim Thome frequency but can DH or play 1B. I still think the Sox need a leadoff hitter as well Unfortunately I think Thome just doesn't fit the team anymore. A lefty 1B/DH would be ideal. Biggest needs in my opinion: Lefty 1B/DH or DH/RF Leadoff (either 2B/3B/LF/RF) Bullpen (righty and lefty) If they can address 2 out of the 3 with solid players I think the Sox will be in great shape. Depending on how arbitration works with Quentin, Jenks and Danks (I think all 3 of these are arb. eligible) will determine how much the Sox can spend on these holes.
  6. Interesting that Getz is rated so lowly. I honestly thought he was a possible solution for leadoff next year, but it looks like that would not be probably the best solution. For fun I ran one with the Cubs because I was interested at where Soriano would end up. http://www.baseballmusings.com/cgi-bin/Lin...462&Model=0 Soriano should hit below Big Z...hilarious. I also ran one for the Indians because I always wondered where Sizemore best fits in the lineup. http://www.baseballmusings.com/cgi-bin/Lin...303&Model=0 The Indians pretty much came out like I expected except for Carroll. I would have guessed Choo would have been leadoff. Good stuff Caulfield.
  7. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 11:45 PM) Everything about Griffey screams HOF. and class act. I really hope his name ever shows up on any PED list. Not that he has ever really been linked to it.
  8. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 11:38 PM) Good point there, but it still makes little sense to me that this ENTIRE offense can slump like this time and time again, only going for homers. Walker has nothing to do with that at all? I don't buy that. And 2005 was just one year, really. As far as that last question, given some of my views on this organization's management, I would easily say, "no." Sad but true. Even the best offensive teams go through slumps, we just don't follow them like we do the Sox. I would agree that it seems like they go in more slumps than a lot of teams, but I cannot prove it one way or the other.
  9. Bout time a 9th inning rally! Let's take the series tomorrow and run out of Seattle.
  10. QUOTE (onedude @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 11:22 PM) yeah...it's aj that walked not pauly, and it's quentin with the single not aj. Alexei did hit the homer though.....really good guess. That is a very creepy prognostication. Especially at 4:00 am.
  11. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 07:53 PM) He's also not the 'roider that Ibanez allegedly is. Who alleges this? I am pretty sure this is an incorrect allegation based on his outrage over that article earlier this year.
  12. Someone must have told Edwin Jackson that their season is over now that Rios is coming, with Peavy on the way. Pitcher IP PC H ER BB K Jackson 3.0 86 9 4 2 3 Ouch.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 07:22 PM) Does this make Jor Danks trade bait this offseason? Hmm. Interesting. Would trading him make John Danks more difficult to re-sign?
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 07:17 PM) If it doesn't, the Sox would have to add a left handed bat that could play some left field for cheap. A Raul Ibanez or something (not that Ibanez is available, but just throwing out random names). If they could do that, than you can also sign Dye to a fair deal for 1 or 2 seasons and let him Dh and play outfield. I would just be hard pressed to see how the Sox did that. Either way I don't see them handing out any major contracts this off-season, in fact I see more of what they do will be 1-2 year deals or involve trades where they shed some payroll and try younger guys at some non-key positions within the pen. I also think this puts an end to the Sox giving any money to a 5th starter. Our 5th starter next season (if the front 4 is healthy) will be one of Hudson/Torres/Garcia. Good point about the 5th starter...but I figured we would use one of those guys even before Rios. They definitely need a left-handed bat. If we can keep Dye for cheap...to play RF and DH....is there a left-handed 1B/DH we can get for a Raul Ibanez type in FA? Like a Casey Kotchman, Adam LaRoche...someone like that?
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 07:15 PM) Aubrey Huff doesn't have a .917 OPS. Try .725. He's worse than Rios. Aubrey Huff is also old and slow. And can't play CF. That comparsion really doesn't make much sense.
  16. I usually don't watch BBTN, but it will funny to watch them downplay this move tonight. If it were the Red Cubs or Yankmees making this move....they would probably talk about it for half the show...and then show the Yankmee sweep again.
  17. Kudos to KW. If people are worried about his value in relation to what the Sox are paying him read this: http://www.southsidesox.com/2009/8/10/9845...os-to-white-sox It pretty much spells out how valuable he is on defense and what his "down numbers" means compared to the collection of CFers we have had. I do not see how this can be viewed as a negative.
  18. QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 04:21 PM) It seems to be a forgone conclusion that the Sox sign Figgins, where did this come from? Anyways, I would love Rios. He is having a little bit of a down year while playing for a garbage team. Pods-Rios-Quentin would be nice in '10 I don't think anyone believes it is a forgone conclusion. I think he is just more on the wishlist.
  19. I saw on mlbtraderumors comments that the order is in reverse of the league the player is in, then the other league. Is this true? I thought it was just reverse record regardless of league.
  20. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 04:03 PM) The only place your lacking power is at 3B, and thats your leadoff man. You'd still have good power from your DH, RF, 1B, and some from your SS/LF/2B/C. Very true. Is Figgins a FA this coming up offseason?
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 03:59 PM) And he's been terrible in the outfield. His UZR/150 in the OF over the years is a -6.4. Not good. I'd rather stick him at 3B. Figgins 3B, Alexei SS/2B, Bacon SS/2b, PK 1B would be my ideal IF....but I worry about the lack of power with that IF.
