  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 03:45 PM) LIKE A LEGIT LEADOFF MAN/CENTER FIELDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like???? Who will be out there next year?
  2. QUOTE (daa @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 03:37 PM) wow i can't remember too many 3-1 swings from carlos that looked like that one.... That pitch just kept running in. I think Carlos was expecting something else. Oops wrong grab.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 03:36 PM) Right, I thought I was the only one noticing it. I remember him having a quiet bat. Not that he would ever be the same kind of player....I thought I remember people comparing his swing to A Rod's. Weren't they?
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 03:34 PM) Does it appear to anyone else that he is loading his bat a little more? 2-4 for Becks. More so than in College for sure. He looks to have more of a Sheffield-type swing now.
  5. Kroeger 2 outs in the same game? Blasphemy!
  6. Australia must suck...Wes Whistler 4 k's through 2.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 01:13 PM) I included him as guaranteed a spot in my first post, and just left that assumed (when I referred to the limited IF backups, that means him). The roster could still include Kroeger, Nix, Owens, Wise, and Betemit and still work. Ahh..my fault. That wouldn't be a bad bench at all...minus Owens.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 01:08 PM) Based on his work last year I think Carrasco has the inside track for one of those bullpen spots and it'd be difficult to not keep him. The other IMO is wide open. Also, he could be a long man...good point I forgot about him.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 01:06 PM) It's worth keeping in mind who has options left and who doesn't. Nix, Wise, and Owens would have to pass through Waivers to go down. Not sure about Kroeger (did sign a minor league deal). Wise could probably get through. Owens, no idea. Nix, no idea, depends on whether he keeps hitting. Anderson has options left, as does Lillibridge and Getz. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Wise, Owens, and Nix found their way on to the opening day Roster to keep them from having to clear waivers. If the Sox carried Nix, Owens, Wise, and Kroeger, that would be similar to the makeup of the team at the end of last year, with limited IF backups but extra OF backups/platoons running. Anderson in particular needs to pick it up with the bat right now otherwise I have trouble believing he'll start in the big leagues. They are going to keep Betemit over Kroeger. He is the only backup I think that is assured a spot.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 01:00 PM) 25 If we carry 12 pitchers which I think is likely (bullpen of Jenks, Thornton, Liney, Dotel, 2nd Lefty (Richard), there are I think 2 bullpen spots open for righties. 12 pitchers, 8 regular starters, 1 DH = 21 people. That leaves: 1 backup catcher 3 other slots. One of which is Betemit So, the available spots are: Backup catcher (really don't know who gets the job but absolute necessity). Starting 2b Starting CF 2 backups. Clearly 1 backup must be able to cover multiple OF positions. The other can be variable given Betemit's versatility, or can be used as a platoon player. 2 bullpen arms. - So really only like 4 positional spots (2 starting) Owens almost has to be cut to get the roster most of us posters want. I would almost assume they would keep at least one between Owens and Wise, because both are out of options. Maybe even both which could be disastrous. - Who would the frontrunners for the last bullpen spots be? Hopefully Sox pick German over Wasserman (based on performance I don't see how that won't be the case)
  11. All this talk about Kroeger has me wondering. How many spots are actually available?
  12. Great...now he is joining the booth. I just threw up a little in my mouth.
  13. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 04:49 PM) Great, the epitome of a Chicago meathead Jim Belushi is signing the 7th inning stretch. The wrong Belushi died. I had to mute the TV so I would not throw up. How he gets asked on TV for the pulse of Chicago sports is beyond me.
  14. I thought Cotts threw decently hard..he is only hitting 91 on the gun.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 04:41 PM) Mr. "I make the f'n lineups" loves slappy, crappy speed hitters Ding, ding, ding. Also, Mr. "Stay out of White Sox business" likes football players.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 04:36 PM) How'd Jenks look? Did he hit 80 mph on the gun? I just got home so I didn't get to him...but Nunez has quite a violent wind-up. He kind of reminds of Dotel.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 11:41 PM) So what was Poreda's line for tonight? I know now it includes a W. Sox win!
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 11:41 PM) Has anyone seen Josh Kroeger play CF? Then again, it's back to the whole problem of him also having to be a leadoff hitter as well...always keeping coming back to the same issue with this team. Not if Getz can lead off.
  19. I know this isn't the right spot...but it appears T.O. just got cut by the 'Boys. Jerry Jones trying to clean out some of the garbage.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 11:37 PM) Yeah, I think most dislike him. I feel bad for him, as he seems like a very nice guy. I don't think it is personal for anyone...I am sure he is a nice guy. He just can't hit, field or throw like a major league player.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 11:33 PM) His speed is overrated on this board. He doesn't seem to get out of the box very quick. I would say Getz gets from swing to first base just as quickly as Owens. Do people on this board really like Owens? I was under the impression this board would loathe Owens starting in center. Myself included.
