6/20 Game Thread - CWS @ CHC, 1:20pm CT
BFirebird replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in 2008 Season in Review
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 19, 2008 -> 11:57 PM) Yeah, they seem to hold their own against Lilly. Now does Ozzie play the percentages and start Toby? I would but both are swinging a hot bat right now and Ozzie may want AJ going in the 1st game with Danks on the mound. I am waiting for another Lilly meltdown and throwing of the mitt after a Dye 3 run blast on to Waveland. Go you White Sox! -
Great offensive series. Bring on the Cubbie Blue!!!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 19, 2008 -> 03:43 PM) I'll trade them Linebrink back for Fielder. Throw in Uribe for Braun. -

Oh to be in the NL Central and beat up on this terrible team. How are they above .500 against the rest of the league outside of Chicago? Their bullpen does not look good in this series. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 19, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) Octavio still has a huge ass. Not quite like Uribe's...but big nonetheless. -

What a difference a year makes for a bullpen for 2 of the biggest surprises this year the Rays and Sox. They had 2 of the worst bullpen ERAs last year and are among the leaders this year. I actually am confident when we go to the pen this year. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 07:24 PM) I almost want a couple people to get on so that Taveras can come up again in the ninth. How often does a guy get a chance to tie a 114 year old record? I just got home...what record would he be going for? -
QUOTE (The Critic @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 04:13 PM) Please, Danks Brothers, have a long talk with Joe Crede. No joke. Crede could talk with A Rod and Gary Sheffield for that matter. I believe they all dumped Borass too.
-
Even if that would be tampering...good luck proving it.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 04:07 PM) I'd assume that's tampering, but that seems like a legit possibility. Would that really be tampering? I thought that teams talk with players about signability all the time.

Wow what a series. I don't think there is a single guy who played that did not contribute in some way over the last 4 days. What a team effort. Pitching continues to be outstanding.

Eat it Twins!!! 6.5 game lead baby!!!!!!

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) Things that can be predicted with relative ease: Number sequences (1, 3, 5, 7...) The amount of my next paycheck The next day's weather[/color] Jim Thome strikes out swinging against a LHP with bases loaded Tell that to the weatherman. They always seem to have problems with that one.

Danks must feel like the red-headed step child the way we score runs for him this year.
-
Nothing like a possible rain out for a rain makeup game. How many show up today if they play? >5K? A 4 game sweep on a wrap around series would be awesome.

QUOTE (tommy @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 08:22 PM) Thanks to our schedule we played so much more away games. I can say I like the idea, and I think we're going to have a good JUNE, and our away record puts the team in good shape for the second part of the season. Considering how they have started and who they play, they could be set up for a HUGE June. They only real good team they play this month is the Cubs and the Dodgers because it is in LA. If they keep the hot streak with the bats look out.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 03:17 PM) I still dont' think the Sox are as high on Fields as a lot of people on here. I'm a big believer of dealing Fields for another prospect or two once he gets going in AAA (or if he gets going). He has too many holes in his game to be a truly great player (yet I think his value is pretty darn high on the trade market). For as much as they have sucked at drafting the last 20 years they have done well in evaluating their own talent in trading. There are few players that we thought we would regret trading that we have actually regretted. After getting both Vazquez and Quentin from Arizona, I would think that the Chris Young trade is even, if not even advantage us. Danks has worked out thus far, with BMac on the DL. I trust us evaluating talent that is already in the minors/1st couple year players than I do drafting. So if they are not high on Fields and can sign Crede, I would not mind a trade.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 02:48 PM) An abundance of shortstops. Going after the best athletes on the field I guess.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 02:23 PM) 34 (1020) - Marcus Semien, SS, St. Mary's HS (CA). He actually has a scouting video. Pretty long video.

So for those in the know of some of these guys, does it seem the Sox are having a decent draft outside of the KW Jr. pick? I know it is really early to tell at this point, but as far as prospecting goes it seems like they seem to be drafting some good players. (Based on what I have read)
-
How many of these later round picks actually sign? I have never really paid attention to the draft and wondered how many sign compared to either go to college or go back to college.
-
Does Buddy Bell have any say in anybody drafted, or is he development only?
