QUOTE (Felix @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 10:14 AM) Beckham just grounded into a double play on the first pitch on ESPN Terrible pick..just what we need guy to hit into double plays.
-
Shut your mouth when you are talking to me.
-
Lots of players never play the position they were drafted at. I believe Konerko and Carlos Lee started as 3bmen in the minors. I think they drafted the player over the position.
-
Beckham will probably end up playing 2nd base. I think it is who the Sox targeted all along and he just fell to them. Guy from BA really liked the pick.
-
They need to stop talking to High School players on the phone right after they get drafted. Dumb.
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 01:25 PM) I want to punch Selig in the face. I never realized how much of a d bag he was.
-
Those cowbells have to go. Fans should not be that excited to get the number 1 pick every other year. Beckham needs a new cell phone.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 01:42 PM) hmmm Pick #26 Why would we trade Durham for Jon Adkins when we could have just let Durham walk and get compensation?!? I was mad at that trade back then, this does not help matters. I know this happened 5 years ago, but still... I hope Kenny does not plan to operate this way any longer. Good catch and memory. Ray Ray was always one of my favorite players.

QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 12:26 PM) Cubs picked Ryan Harvey right before Markakis. ouch. Yeah I noticed that too. Oooooops.

With the draft coming up and on espn.com there was an article looking back at this draft, I decided to take a look at the number 1 picks from this draft. The White Sox have 3 players drafted in the 1st round of this draft. I thought that seemed kind of unusual. Danks Anderson Quentin We also used to have AAArdsma. I wish we could get the BA pick over and take Billingsly or even Wood with that pick but oh well. It looks like that draft could turn out some pretty solid players. http://www.baseball-reference.com/draft/?y...aft_type=junreg

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 11:35 AM) Wasn't this Hochevar guy the #1 overall pick in like 2002 or so? 2006 I believe.
-
Yeah LOST ruined watching one of the most complete games the Sox have had this season, if this offense starts to heat up...look out.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 29, 2008 -> 10:32 PM) Well, I guess if you know your philosophy, you could have seen Locke in the casket coming..... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Bentham Look on the right hand side at who his biggest influence was.... Great find. That bothered me the whole time as well, trying to figure out who the heck it was.

What about Kaz Matsui with Houston if they fall out of it? I know they just signed him as a FA and not sure how much he makes, but he can leadoff and steal bags as well.
-
What makes it hard for CQ is he isn't even on the ballot. I believe teams have to submit their all-star ballot entries at the beginning of the year. He will only get votes on write-ins. He will be on that fan vote at the end of the balloting and will probably have a good chance to get in if he continues to play as well as he has. Oops. Everyone beat me to it.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 21, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) No, the offensive woes are not the same. The batting average is similar - that's true. That .247 average is good for 26th in baseball this year, but the OBP is .332, which is 12th in MLB. In 2007, the average was .246 (very similar), but the OBP was .318, LAST in baseball. Also, this year's team is scoring 4.6 runs per game (14th in MLB), whereas in 2007, they only scored 4.27 runs per game (again, LAST in baseball). And my fave... The 2007 team hit .243 w/RISP, dead last in baseball. This year's team is hitting .284, good for 6th in MLB. This offense is already significantly better than last year, and that's despite the fact that Swisher, Konerko, Thome and O-Cab are all playing far below their career averages. They won't all stay that low. Nothing like the same offense. Wow. Great research. CQ has a LOT to do with those improvements. We have said it on this board before but in order for them to stay competitive, eventually PK and Thome have to figure it out. Hopefully it was a start of good things for them yesterday: PK with a solid hit up the middle and a walk (minus the K with the bags juiced) and Thome with a dinger to the opposite field. I know it is blasphemy to say, but CQ is eventually going to slump a little and someone is going to have to pick up the slack.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2008 -> 05:01 PM) Rich Aurilia....any chance he wasn't on steroids during his peak years? 0%
-
Who would have thought the Sox could go 7-3 on a WEST COAST trip?

QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2008 -> 04:58 PM) The guy who parachuted into the back of the center field wall was priceless. Yeah that was hilarious.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2008 -> 04:55 PM) I saw that the other day...I really liked it. How often are new episodes played? Also, I had never heard of Gillingham before. He was at NIU when I was there for my Master's. He went there after he went to Purdue for a couple of years. I went to school with him at Purdue and then he transferred to get more playing time at NIU.

If you guys are looking for something to watch tonight the "Playing for Peanuts" is pretty funny. My boy Tug Gillingham from school is the catcher for that team. Just a little plug.

Just got home...where did all of this offense come from?

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 17, 2008 -> 09:09 PM) I feel sorry for any fan, especially a Sox fan, that didn't get to see Frank at his peak. Time stood still when he came to the plate for me. It was just like watching Michael. Everytime Frank came to bat u sensed something special was about to happen. Frank was on some different s*** in 1994. He was playing at a level that I to this day have never seen. And that includes any of Barry Bonds' steroid-induced years. People talk about how amazing it would be if somebody in the modern era won the triple crown. Not only did Frank have a legitimate chance to do that, but he had a legitimate chance to lead the league in SIX (yes, six) other major offensive categories, making that a staggering NINE offensive catergories. I will never forgive the b****es involved for wiping out that season. We missed out on argubly the greatest single-season EVER by ANY player in the history of the game. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/AL_1994.shtml Click this link for the 1994 statistical leaders. Just take a look at how many Frank either led in or damn near led in. It's mind-boggling. Just to play devils advocate, Joey Belle was having an equally impressive season that year as well.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 08:26 PM) CQ's current OPS is .942. That is sexy.
