  1. QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 01:21 AM) Detroit has a brutal stretch coming up. @ Sea -3 KC - 4 CWS - 3 Oak - 4 @ Cle - 3 @ MIN - 3 August @ TB - 4 Cle - 3 Min - 3 @ CWS - 3 @ Bos - 3 Tex - 4 CWS - 4 @ Cle - 3 @ NYY - 3 The second half of July and all of August is brutal for the Tigers. 10 games against the Sox alone is tough enough but they won't have the luxury of playing KC and anyone in the NL for a while. Toss in Boston, New York, Cleveland and Minnesota and the next 6 weeks will prove how good this team really is. Oakland and Seattle might help us pull even before the break but post ASG, the Sox should add some breathing room against teams like KC (7), TB (3), Balt (3) and of course, the Tigers (10) in that same stretch. Enjoy the ASG and then the day off afterward cause it is go time from then on out. Edit - KC, TB and Bal might well have traded thier best players by the time they face the Sox too. I don't think Cleveland and MN are going to make huge moves because I don't see them as that many pieces away from a run next year. Crawford, Tejada might be sitting in someone elses bench in August and as long as it isn't the Tigers, I feel pretty good. Ouch...that is pretty brutal. The only thing they have going for them on that stretch is somehow the Tigers play better away from Comerica.
  2. QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) Holy s***! I thought that was a pop up. Thome=Yard! I thought it was a pop-up as welll.
  3. Oh yea!!! Thome hit one out of the crackerjack box baby!!
  4. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 01:40 PM) What about that single off Marte that won the game?
  5. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 01:24 PM) These idiots are wasting every f***ing opportunity. And Crede should've been on 2nd with Pierre's pussy arm. Agree..I was wondering what he was doing on that play. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 01:25 PM) Well, if we keep getting two runners each inning we should elevate the pitch count and get to the dreaded Cub Bullpen. It is not that bad of a bullpen...for a team with the flubs record.
  6. That ball went further than I figured by Uribe..and is there a worse arm in center field than Pierre? Nice throw you girl.
  7. QUOTE(brijames @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 01:12 PM) If Javy and the pen can hold them to 5 or less I like the Sox chances. The key is less than 4...their record with scoring less than 4 runs is awful.
  8. Gotta love the shift. No chance on that play.
  9. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 01:05 PM) Maddux looks significantly shakier than Javy. He is definitely getting hit harder.
  10. Manufacturing runs with the lower portion of the order...always important in the NL.
  11. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 01:03 PM) Vazquez does his job. He's already better than Pods.
  12. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 12:59 PM) Thank you, AJ. He seems much better this year at throwing out the runners. Agreed...when his pitchers give him a chance.
  13. Wow...AJ got Pierre from there to Aurora.
  14. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) I wish soxtalk posters would learn how to stfu and let the game happen instead of constantly crying about how everyone on our team sucks, but what are you gonna do. Thank you. Everyone seems a little high strung.
  15. QUOTE(Goldmember @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 09:49 AM) Tommy Lasorda's Dodgers over the Yankees... Ditto here...not too long after the series either..november. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 03:27 PM) I forget who won it in 1988. Dodgers...how can you forget Gibson's homer? Well I guess you were either not born yet or just born.
  16. QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) Twins win again 6-3 Mauer went 2-3 and a walk he went 11-14 for the 3 game series. At one point, he had 8 straight singles in 8 at bats Wow...Mauer is a machine. Eventually he is going to either have to DH or play 1st base to save himself from the grind. He is way to important of a hitter. QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 08:20 PM) BREAKING NEWS Liriano IS human Normar with a solo shot but Twins up 6-1 in the 5th Liri with 5 K's so far. Sorry to break it to you but I don't think Liriano is human.
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 11:40 PM) Aqua - "Barbie Girl" That song is about as annoying as that wake up with Johnny B song for the Brandemeir commercial.
  18. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 07:10 AM) It's just like last season really. Teams who aren't doing well aren't going to give up their best talent because they're sick of losing, and unless they get a great deal with top notch prospects e.g the Ron Villone deal, you probably won't see many deals again. Will be interesting to see if the Yanks will actually trade Phillip Hughes for Lee, Willis or Zito. Trading Phillip Hughes would be a huge mistake. The last thing the Yankees need is to trade a young pitching stud....he will probably be in the bigs within the next 3 years.
  19. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 02:47 PM) A few things concern me about Roberto. 1.40 WHIP. That's way too many baserunners. He's always one bad pitch away from blowing saves or leads with that many men on base. 15 runs v. 8 ERs. Is he really a 2.15 ERA guy? If you count all the runs, its closer to 4.00. Sure, only earned runs count, and the Sox have great infield defense, but I wonder. On the plus side, the 2 HRs in 33+ innings is huge. And I like the GB/FB ratio that's been mentioned above. For a middling prospect, I suppose it is hard to argue against making such a move. But is this the best a WS champion can do? We need to try to get our bullpen back to where it was last year down the stretch. Jenks -- Fine Cotts -- Fine (getting back to something close to last year) Thornton -- An improvement on Marte, could become outstanding Riske -- A good stand-in for Cliff Politte's role last year. McCarthy -- has been bounced around in his roles -- still trying to find himself. Should be the guy saving games that Vazquez, Garland, Garcia, et al. don't pitch well in, or winning extra-inning contests. Politte -- who knows what we'll get once he's off the DL? Hermanson? -- don't count on anything here. We need that right hander who can pitch as well as Hermanson did early and Politte did late. It won't be easy to find. Great analysis and I agree it is going to be really hard to find a reliever in the market because everyone needs bullpen help without overpaying. It appears that the bullpen is coming around with the additions of Riske and Thornton so hopefully it will keep it up because it seems to be their only real weakness.
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 07:27 PM) Yes, he's struggling this year as is the rest of that lineup, of course he has scored 52 Runs this season and has stolen 27 of 33 bases. Last year he was pretty damn productive . . . 290 AVG | .352 OBP | 113 R | 8 HR | 62 SB I personally love the little scamp and will not rest until I get him in a Sox uni, his versatility alone is worth giving up something of value for him. Make it happen Kalapse. He is definitely one of the most underrated leadoff men in the game.
  21. Yeah I got mine in the mail yesterday...but im pissed because I will be on vacation. But then I realized I will be in sunny mexico.
