Garcia to Philly for Gavin Floyd and Gio Gonzalez
RX Bandits replied to BobDylan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 11:37 AM) What about the 92 mph fastball he featured in September when he appeared to get stronger? This is a terrible trade. We could've gotten Figgins for Freddy straight up and even that would've been bad but not nearly as bad as this. Figgins is a black scott podsednick who is really fast, but not necessarily a base stealer who has little upside. The two prospects have a greater upside, and they are PITCHERS. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 11:38 AM) Great, so we're going into the season with the same issues that really hurt us last season. Back-up catcher is very important, especially with the great LHP in our division. It almost seems like it would have been better if we went 81-81 last year if we weren't going to make the playoffs. Too much nonsense about how we won 90 games, etc., and didn't make the playoffs. WE WERE AN AWFUL TEAM DURING THE 2ND HALF OF THE SEASON. I'm not saying they're not issues, im saying its way too early to be b****ing at kenny for not getting a back-up catcher. People dont understand that being a GM is like a chess match. You're not going to fill every hole in two weeks. I dont understand how Brian Anderson killed us last year. He hit .300 the second half. -

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 11:34 AM) Ok, I'll explain it. I think McCarthy will have a similar year to the one Garcia had in 2006. About a 4.50 I know what I've read about them and seen of them. I also know that they are just prospects. Most prospects never pan out. Gio is far from major league ready and no one knows if he ever will be. Such is the nature of prospects who have only gotten as high as the AA level (and not done very well there). He's a big question mark. Floyd was a top prospect whose star has fallen each of the last 3 years. He has talent and hasn't been able to ever put it together in the majors. He's a big question mark. So you've got a solid #3 major leauge SP who is dependable at that level and two big question marks. Clearly there is more major league talent, particularly this year in the former. How many long ones do you think McCarthy will give up? Don't you see that a couple decent pitcher prospects helps this team immeasurably???? Nobody knows if Garcia will ever throw 90+. Nobody really knows anything. Hell Garcia's arm could fall off tomorrow. I dont understand how McCarthy is going to get a full season in being a 6th starter. My point is he has to take his licks sometime. Better now than later. Freddy is just a guy. Really he will give you a brilliant start every month or so then go back to being bad. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) We have no back-up catcher, horrific left fielder, and bad hitting players in CF and SS with no legit back-up. There are holes on this team, don't kid yourself. We also are stuck having 3 guys in the bullpen that we can be confident can get guys out. KW hasn't improved our bullpen like he said he would. LOL you're worried about middle relievers...who are the worst players on a major league baseball team? I think Ardsma is a solid upgrade from cotts. I am also not concered abut a back-up catcher, with it being december and all. As for the LF position, I said it a couple a posts ago, Pods contract > Dave Robers contract. Pods is only around for a year and at least you know what you're going to get out of him. I'm not worried about CF, in fact, I believe Anderson is better than Rowand. It was Andersons first full season, I think we're expecting too much out of him. As for Uribe, All I want is a .240-.260 hitter and decent defense. Really there is not a SS on the market worth getting. -

QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 11:26 AM) There's a lot of people on here with foggy minds about or player's values and that was quite evident after everyone screamed about the Cotts trade. Freddy and his bong were certainly not going to be back with us in 2007, its tiime to stop falling in love with our players around here. Amen thank you. Whether it is Rowand or Cotts or Garcia, Williams doesnt pull the "2005 world series champs card" with players from that team, unlike 95% of this board. -

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 11:25 AM) Common sense. I love how everyone hated the trade when it was announced, and then 12 hours later, many have convinced themselves that it was a good deal, or at least the best possible deal KW could have gotten. This trade fits into KW's and JR's new philosophy to get younger and cheaper. Rebuild immediately. I think he liked this trade offer because it involved cheap prospects that help for the future, but not for the upcoming season -- not because it was the trade offer that involved the most talent. Nice. I'm just saying we don't know if Haeger is major league ready. On the other hand, the available evidence shows that Floyd definitely isn't ready. Kenny said is was the best deal available. I don't understand why people dont trust him/ want him to make so many moves. People, we're not the cubs. We won 90 games. Although it did not translate into a division title like we all expected, kenny doesn't have to wheel and deal BECAUSE THERE ARE FEW HOLES TO FILL! I think Kenny has done a fantastic job of not overpaying. Really, Pods got about 2 million for one year, while 55 year old dave roberts got 14 million over 3 years. No thanks. -

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 11:10 AM) 1. Less talent on the team (and organization now). 2. BMac in his first full season in the majors won't do better than Garcia would have done (about the same, I think). 3. When a SP gets injured (and this happens to basically every team, every year), we'll have no major league ready replacement to fill in, because we've lost our SP depth. Huh? explain the logic of Mccarthy wont do better that Garcia...but if someone goes down he can pitch? its like saying he sucks....but hes a top notch fill-in if someone gets hurt? as for talent, I must have a boatload of talent cause I can throw 85 MPH. Using the word "talent" is a cop-out for really saying "i hate this deal because i know nothing about the two prospects in return." I for one, like the move. Remember people, the market to get an outfielder sucked as well, and I bet teams were asking for a lot for a power hitting OF. This move helps us down the line. -
USA TODAY BASEBALL WEEKLY TRADE SUGGESTION
RX Bandits replied to winninguglyin83's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 10:03 PM) current issue lists five suggested trades. First on the list is Freddy, Crede and Broadway for ARod. Suggests the guy the Yankees really want is BMac, but the sox think he can be a top of the rotation starter. A Rod wasn't that much better than Crede last season. No way he's worth two pitchers, plus Joe. here is the link: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/bbw/2006-11...ed-trades_x.htm dude AROD had some great numbers. dont believe new york/ ESPN. almost anyone else would kill for the numbers he had -
QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 10:04 PM) Is he just figuring this out? That describes their effort in most games since the ASB. STOP USING WORDS LIKE "EFFORT" AND "HEART" AND "THEY DONT CARE (ok thats a sentence)" These guys care, they just suck. It's their job to care. Unless you can prove to me that they are not giving any "effort" you cant say that.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 06:25 PM) Anyone who says Mark Buehrle's option shouldn't be picked up is out of their mind. If we let him go he'd sign somewhere else for about whatever Zito gets this offseason. dude do you know the market for reliable pitchers in this day and age? AJ Burnett had a career .500 record and got something like 8-9 million a year. Buehrle is an innings eater, and beyond that he has never been hurt. Look what pitching injuries have done to the cubs. My point: You know what you're getting with Buehrle. no to mention hes a left handed pitcher

I have a bone to pick..... STOP SAYING "PLAYER X" HAS GIVEN UP!!!! No matter what you say you cannot prove any player has given up. This is because nobody has given up. Look it's their job to go out and play everyday. They know that if they do give up 29 other teams will not want them. /endrant

QUOTE(cgaudin @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 08:25 AM) What happened to the "FUSE IS LIT" banner up above the web page? I now see gooch swinging at a pitch above his head! How fitting............. I thought we would be only 4 games out at the end of the Detroit series. I truly underestimated their impunity. My mistake. I will amend my prediction to 6 games when the Detroit series is over. I got drunk one night (fri or sat i forget) and called this site out. i log in the next morning and its gone.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 01:09 AM) name someone sorry, but i'm not ready to throw the manager who won us our first world series in like 100 years under the bus agreed. the team needs to start hitting. A decent outing by garland. i'v had a couple afterr this bad loss so sorryabout any type-o's or idiot thoughts can we take this "the fuse it lit" banner down? c'mon they got lucky and this team has played the same since then.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 06:35 PM) Um, no. McCarthy has sucked out of the pen. Outside of a 5IP effort, he's sucked all year. He's easily the most overhyped, overrated guy in anything related to "White Sox". Wrong. McCarthy was the only sure thing the first couple months of the season. I dont understand all the Anderson hate. Did you really expect him to hit well? The hitting is up to 3-4-5. Brian plays a very good centerfield. Get over the whole Aaron Rowand s***. He really is not that good.

I could be wrong...but I don't think Baltimore's pitching has improved any, if at all after the signing of Widger. face it he sucked.

WTF is wrong with Jays' manager Gibbons?
RX Bandits replied to Big Hurtin's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 11:07 AM) I never thought Ted Lilly would be someone who'd get into a fight so I'd have to blame Gibbons since this has happened twice. Lilly showed him up ON THE MOUND!!!! To me, Lilly is more of a jackass for doing it in public after giving up seven runs and acting suprized. Sorry but Gibbons was in line to follow his player down the tunnel after showing him up. -
QUOTE(cgaudin @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 12:12 PM) They don't need to string nothin'. Just win 2 out of 3 from here on out. Totally doable. that is true. or it is possible that this is as good as this current team will play this year. only time can tell.

Ozzie confronts the cheating allegations...
RX Bandits replied to RX Bandits's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) Ozzie is becoming really really annoying. JMO, of course. Winning fixes everything. As far as the tigers claim the sox were stealing signs because Thome took four straight fastballs is lame. Last I checked, baseball is all about the hitter figuring out what the pitcher is going to throw. -
hey people...chill the tigers have lost three straight, we faced santana today IN MINNESOTA! We also have played .600 ball against teams .500 or better, which at last check was the best in baseball. The red sox, twins, and tigers alll have their problems. I'll take the white sox problems over the other teams any day.

Ozzie confronts the cheating allegations...
RX Bandits replied to RX Bandits's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 03:55 PM) I guess it's ok for Buehrle to accuse of teams/pitchers of cheating, but it's not ok for other teams to say that about us. not so fast, buehrle was called out on that by a lot of st.com posters including me. -
ozzie denies cheating Ozzie is at once again, and for the most part he is right about how bad the NL is.

sit down b****es, the tigers pissed their pants this weekend.
