  1. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 03:24 PM) Big crowds. Last 5 wins at home were small crowds IMO. Every game should be sold out this season based on their record. My co-worker was mentioning this today; he can't believe we're getting like 15, 20 thousand people over the past week, being in first place and right in the race to the playoffs. I honestly don't know the answer (especially on a night like last night which was also two-fer Tuesdays). The best I could come up with was: well, school's back in for starters. Either that or people aren't interested in seeing us play Central division teams. I dunno. Doesn't bother me, because I know come playoff time every bandwagon jumper will come out of the woodwork and crowd the place, so I try enjoy the "relaxed" atmosphere.
  2. I agree; although of late it seems like we're shaking the home jinx, whatever was causing that.
  3. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 02:58 PM) Try saying CREDEPOPSUP in the game thread, I dare ya. It was a long running inside joke at Soxtalk, but now apparantly banneable. Oh man I am gettin' booted out of here so fast. Here's what I'm used to: Crede pops up. Again. Uribe swings at everything Please Rowand don't swing at that low n' away pitch! Damn you, Willie! Marte! AAAGH! Granted, everybody's been lookin' good since September, so many of these don't apply anymore. I had particular scorn for Contreras, but look how he's been lately (who knew?!). Anyway, those were familiar themes with me all season. Ban-able, eh? I am fokked.
  4. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 02:52 PM) And Don't Talk About Fight Club. LMAO. First rule about 1/2 Price Mondays... You do not talk about 1/2 Price Mondays! I know that rule...
  5. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 02:49 PM) Don't critisize the players Don't critisize other posters Then you'll be set. You mean I can't ding Crede for popping up or take aim at Willie Harris, for example?!?!
  6. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:01 AM) Why are you worried about this...??? :rolly I've been to a few games this year last-minute where all they had was SRO (I think Elvis night was one, Boston maybe another). Which was fine with me, because we all stand the whole game anyway (no, not blabbing away, we watch). But I've never been to a playoff game so who knows how many they'll load up on? I hope not too many--I like my concourse fairly passable.
  7. It never ceases to amaze me that Brooks takes the time to answer fans' emails like that, and with such sincerity. Whatta guy. Gotta love him.
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) Insanely successful? Not yet. An excellent year to be sure...but for it to be "Insanely successful" we need to be 3 games above .500 after October 3rd. I should have said insanely successful regular season. Still, did anybody really think we were gonna turn it around this quickly with the whole "new" team idea? I thought it would be better than last year, but this season so far is way past what I thought we could accomplish so soon. You're right though: let's get through October.
  9. Schweet! I hope it's the 23rd, where I'll be there for my b-day with my family, some of whom have never been to the Cell before. Hey guys! Everybody's jumping around because we just clinched! That would be great. Either way; I can't believe after this long, long season the finish line (well regular season at least) is finally in sight. I thought we'd be better this year, but 35 games over .500? C'mon! What an insanely successful year.
  10. Well I've had enough banning for my lifetime. Once is enough. Man, after all that work, too!! What do people get banned for here, before I fall on my sword again?
  11. I think what did Shingo in if I'm not mistaken was that series in Cleveland. I remember Don Cooper just sitting there shaking his head in the dugout as Shingo put guys on base. I was a huge Shingo fan; I was sorry to see him go but he wasn't getting it done. Hermie's great, but a question mark with that back lately. Bobby Jenks, IMO, rules. I think we made out okay on this one.
  12. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) It seems you did in the current case, if LV's "History...." amounts to nothing more than the sort of sentiments in the example post. It cartainly can get tiresome to see the same negativity at times (often from the same solks), but the "other site's" decision to ban based on some doomsaying at the end of a month we all wanted to forget is treating dandruff by decapitation. Give the rest of the board community enough credit that they can decide for themselves to ignore the psosts from specific posters they disagree with. Uh, how is it that anybody could be "doomsaying" for an entire season when the Sox' record has been incredible? And what is so "doomsday" about the sentiments in the sample post? The post concludes with the idea that we should not get ahead of ourselves here and worry first and foremost about winning the division--something KW or Ozzie will tell you any day. Apparently the one line is the one about either getting it done this month or being out of it by October. I mean, duh--the way August was going, I'm not seeing the big mystery here. And besides it's a moot point anyway! Now they're cruising in September, as they should be, the pitchers have been on, McCarthy has been a gem, everybody's hitting... things look good.
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:10 AM) They do things different there. It's their gig. So be it. Sorry that happened - but I don't agree with washing your dirty laundry here. No offense to you at all, and I'm sure you'll like it here. I wasn't trying to wash dirty laundry, I was trying to get perspective from Sox fans at the one other place I know, and where I've lurked. Also: I never mentioned the site by name. Merely "another Sox site." I've gotten enough feedback here and from others; I feel no remorse for what I posted. As for those who've posted IMO it was a history of this with me, two things: 1) When the team is sucking, the team is sucking. I certainly am not the only poster pointing this out. Posting problems can be tiresome if you don't post solutions, which is exactly what I did. 2) What are we supposed to post during dark periods like that? We go there to commiserate with other Sox fans. 3) A warning would have been nice, after a year participating there.
  14. I have no problem with rules or staying in them. I also understand that nobody wants to hear from dark clouds constantly. But like I said; I was just stating the obvious, not waving a white flag. I would hope that if I posted something here that ticked a mod off, he/she would: a) Just delete it B) PM me c) email me d) Or just explain what was inappropriate Nada. You saw what happened.
  15. I've heard plenty of Paulie-bashing all season; how he's overpaid, a clubhouse bad influence, etc. But I have to give the man props for stepping up when we head into the stretch; he certainly has been killing lately. And his homers are something to watch. If I'm not mistaken, he also hit a clutch oppposite-field single last night too. Way ta go. Will he be around after this season? I have no idea.
  16. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 10:33 AM) I take it LV stands for Vegas...how does one become a fan in Vegas? ARe you from CHicago originally? Oh God, now I'm gonna get shot! LV stands for Lakeview. Yes, I live five minutes from Wrigley field, but have been a lifelong Sox fan and haul my ass on the el to the games every week. The downside is that I'm surrounded by Cubbery. The upside is that when I'm out and about in a Sox jersey, people will come up to me, and give the handshake and nod, as we're comrades in Cubland. Or yell out "Go Sox" as they're passing by. It's like a band of brothers over here. If you ever need to know where the Sox-friendly bars are here, hit me up.
  17. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 10:26 AM) It is impossible to remove, either surgically, psychologically, or through the arcane arts, the tiny grain of negativity that always resides in true Sox fans waiting to rear it's head at the appropriate times. To paraphrase James Joyce, as Sox fans, we have an abiding sense of tragedy that sustains us through breif periods of joy. Welcome aboard, LVSoxFan. Thanks and I agree. Being championship-free since 1917 will do that. I like to say: "Hope for the best, expect the worst." It is Chicago; we are stoic like that. That said, of course I think we'll do great things this year and am thrilled with how it's gone so far. Not August, but hey: if that was the slump and now we're going to start rolling in September, perfect. That was my point over there; usually at this point we're collapsing for good. Not so now! Go Sox!
  18. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 10:18 AM) A few things. #1.No you would not have been banned here. #2.We really don't want to see someone's dirty laundry from another site aired out here. If you want to rant, we ask that you keep it to the off topic board, Sex, Lies, and Politics. #3 Welcome to Soxtalk My apologies, I just wanted some feedback from Sox Fans and didn't know where to put it. Please go ahead and move it to the appropriate forum. #3: Thanks.
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 10:14 AM) By their rules you are a "dark cloud" IMO, it's f***ing stupid to ban anyone for something like that. You can only praise the team and it's sickening. However, they do make the rules and by their rules, you won't be posting again until October. Well I guess. I didn't realize obviously that the definition of "dark cloud" was so arbitrary. After all, if you read the post, it's the bad news... and then the good news. I'll praise the team when praise is due--but if I want to be nothing but a rhetorical, delusional puppet, I'll be a Cubs fan. Don't get me wrong there's great posters there and a lot of very passionate fans and the board is nicely done; but I'm just floored that something that could have come from Ozzie's or KW's mouth or any sportswriter resulted in summary dismissal.
  20. What is so "dark cloud" about pointing out the obvious? Remember: this was before our big streak and rally in September, which is exactly what I said we needed to do. And you think it's appropriate to boot somebody for one post among 600? A couple of friends/Sox fans pointed out this is like the Steve Stone treatment--which, ironically, is postively Cubs-like. And no I'm hardly a doomsayer--but then again, I always loved Sox fans because they're not filled with pie-in-the-sky delusional thinking like the other team's fans. They call 'em like they see 'em.
  21. Here is something I posted right at the end of August, after the Texas series, on another board: This BETTER be a damn good homestand, because 1) I'm tired of watching them lose 2) I'm even MORE tired of watching them lose at home It's time to kick some Comedy Central ass. Look, having a crappy home record and winning on the road isn't going to do us much good when... we have home field advantage to start the playoffs. The bad news is: the 1st half team is AWOL. Where oh where are our little smallball, squeak-it-out, win-every-series wonders? The good news is: if that was the slump and we go on a tear in September, then the timing couldn't be better. Usually our collapse each year starts in August--we hang in there until the ASB, then the Twins juice us and by August we know we're toast. Just like last year. At least the year before with Loaiza's Big Year they managed to last until... September. And if I'm not mistaken, Loaiza's loss there in Minnesota was sort of the beginning of the end that year. So here we have it. Final month. Do or die. We either teach the division a lesson, or we give it up by Oct. 1st. Let's keep things in perspective: while everybody wants to win the WS, the first goal--face it, we didn't expect to be this good this fast--was to win the division, which we haven't been able to do for four years behind Minnesota. If we can get there, let's worry about everything else as it comes. First things first, though: people shouldn't distract themselves with WS fantasies and instead should focus on doing whatever it takes to win the division. Just a thought... After a year on the board, 600+ posts, I was denied access. As it turned out, the moderator had gone into the post and added these comments: Enjoy it from your sofa, because you won't be here. First things first... farewell. And you're welcome. Relieving constant misery is our first responsiblity I emailed him asking him what was possibly inappropriate about this and pointing out that I've been a loyal poster for that long (and big-time promoter of the board). No response. I've been here a couple of times, but I need to hear from Sox fans what would be offensive about this, or inappropriate. I'm a diehard who's been to 37 games this season thus far. Remember this was right before September started, and obviously we've started to do just what I said we needed to since then. And now I'm here, which is fine. I like what I see. Hopefully I won't get my ass kicked out of here with no warning!
  22. I said it in another forum and I'll say it here. Batters 1-9 should personally apologize to Freddy for throwing the game of a lifetime and we still lose. Well maybe not Dye for that awesome catch; or Ozuna, who actually got on base. Yeah, they shut us down, some say here. Well, yeah, but we've also been shut down by the likes of... KC. I was there. 7-1 it was. That was one of the worst games ever--not just because we lost, but because we lost on one freakin' hit. What else is our pitching supposed to give us? How are they gonna feel knowing that if we get in a hole any deeper than 0-0, we're going to lose?
