Just some updated data... 56% of Americans (in poll) believe that warrants should be necessary EVEN FOR OVERSEAS CALLS, let alone domestic... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060111/ap_on_...ropping_ap_poll Not that popular opinion is all that important in matters of law, of course, but there is interesting information in the data from the poll. One quote from the article in particular, scares the s**t out of me: It amazes me how little people care about their Constitutional rights. When we as a nation give up caring about them, guess where they go? And who the heck has a name like Ice-Bones anyway?

Specific issues aside for the moment, am I the only one who looks at the total historical package of Alito, and sees a flag waving in the wind? Honestly, the guy seems sort of spineless to me. His opinions appear to be greatly influenced by the suitability of response. Seems like he wants really badly to be a politician. Roberts, on the other hand, seemed rock solid and reliable. And far less politically-minded. From what I've read (which is admittedly not exactly volumes), and what I've seen of Alito, I'm not impressed.

Gossage and Blyleven should have gotten in, probably before Sutter. I am sort of on the fence on Sutter, as well as Rice and Dawson. Also, as a darkhorse, I think Dale Murphy deserves more consideration than he has gotten. I for one am happy that Pete Rose won't be going in - he's a scumbag. One of the greatest hitters ever, and "The Hustle", but still a scumbag. And as for Strawberry and Gooden, not only are they also more damaging to baseball's reputation than helpful, they just don't cut it on numbers either.

I still haven't settled on one yet. I change it every so often when I find something funny. I'd like to find something permanent, but I'm too lazy to go looking.

Does your Church make you feel like this?
NorthSideSox72 replied to Texsox's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 02:21 PM) People are free to believe in whatever they want to believe in. I'm not going to get into a theological discussion. I believe what I believe and do so unashamedly. If this country continues to turn it's back on God, we will go down the s***ter. Now I need some sleep. Have a good day. Fair enough. It seems we agree on the freedom of people to believe as they choose, and that's what it is most important for the country, I think. Enjoy your rest, and you have a good day also, sir. -

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 02:03 PM) You've got your opinion, I've got mine. I believe God needs to be in the forefront of America. As for whether or not an individual is in the s***ter without God, that's not for me to say. We'll see what God has to say about it at a later date. If we put "God" at the forefront of America, why have the protections in the Constitution for freedom of religion at all? Also, there are 250 million Americans (give or take), and depending on how detailed you get, anywhere from at least a few dozen to as many as 250 million different ideas of what "God" is. Seems pretty arrogant to say that your God should be at the forefront. Anyway, just to clarify, I've been a churchgoer (on and off at times) my whole life. Lots of great things can come from a belief in God or some other system of faith. I just want to make sure that everyone gets the same protections in this country regardless of their version of God, or lack thereof. Your statement just felt to me like an insult to anyone not sharing your particular belief system. -

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 01:39 PM) I said nothing about church. I was talking about God. But your response was to a posting about going to Church. In any case, same question. Do all people who do not believe in God, or not believe in your particular vision of God, belong in the "s***ter"? Do you actually believe that making American better or stronger necessitates a belief in a specific God? If we want America to be better, maybe we should focus on actually fixing the problems that exist, instead of hitching our fortunes to one particular guiding force in some people's lives. Especially since this country is supposed to be a secular state, protecting the freedoms of all believers and non-believers. Let's focus on the problems at hand, and not fall into the intellectual laziness that is mass-cultural stereotyping and categorization. -

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 01:25 PM) Unfortunately? You want a Godless America? No wonder the liberals are dragging this country right down the s***ter. So if America goes in the "s***ter" without God, is it safe to assume you feel that anyone who doesn't attend church belongs in said "s***ter"? -

Bush declares this forum illegal
NorthSideSox72 replied to Gene Honda Civic's topic in The Filibuster
Wouldn't it be more accurate to title this thread, "Congress declares this forum illegal"? Or maybe "The government declares this forum illegal"? Congress wrote the law and stuck it to something else, and the government as a whole implemented it. Bush's part in signing off on it is worth noting, but I would put the responsibility more on the shoulders of Congress than him. This was not a Bush "thing". I have to side with some of the GOP'ers here who have expressed annoyance with putting all evil in the realm of Bush. It's Congress being stupendously un-tech-savvy, while trying to do something they think is positive, which caused this. Let's try to reserve our criticism of Bush for when he really deserves it (there are plenty of those situations). -
I call B.S. on this article. I'm not even convinced those are the same woman. And no way that happens in a month.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 10:08 AM) WHA??? Oh HELLS yes!!!! OK, so, I went to the website for Shiner brewery, and it says it's not available in Illinois. Which is weird, 'cause like I said, I've seen it. Maybe they got it illegally? I'll see if they have it next time I go in there. Anyway, the map shows you can get it in WI, MN, IA, MO and other nearby states, but not IL or IN. Weird.

I majored in Poli Sci back in undergrad, so I've seen my share of teachers. Many were clearly in one party's camp or the other, but most managed to try to keep off the soap box on partisan standing. I had one great one, though, who taught my Presidency class. He came in the first day wearing a very expensive-looking business suit, tie and all (most Profs wore slacks and a button-down). But, he also had a completely shaved head and wore an earing. He stated the first day of class that he would feel he was successful if by the end of the semester, no one could tell where his allegiances lied. And sure enough, the class as a whole still had no idea by the end. THAT is the mark of an effectice, objective teacher of political science; teach the information, lead discussion and allow for the students to learn and build their own views. As for your teacher, since it's high school and this guy is obviously a moron, you might just want to bite your tongue and make it to the end. The very fact that he would do what he did seems to indicate he isn't going to be terribly reasonable.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 08:08 AM) I am still waiting for them to get Shiner Boch up here... Shiner Bock IS here. I saw it at the Paulina Food & Liquor and Armitage and Damen not too long ago. I'd have to check to see if they still have it.

When I go to update my avatar with a file from my computer, it fails. Specifically, I browse to the file I want, it finds it OK. Then when I click "Update Avatar", I get the IE page of "Cannot Find Server". This happens on two seperate computers, actually. Anyone have any idea why?

Snow supports federal agency to rebuild NO

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 7, 2006 -> 07:02 AM) You have a major metropolitan area, built below sea level, surrounder by water on 3 sides in a part of the country that gets consistantly hit by hurricanes and that's considered unlikely. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Exactly what I've been saying. A disaster COULD hit anywhere, but for NO it was inevitable. National disaster zones, please, Congress. No federal monetary/property assistance for that disaster in that zone, in areas of high likelihood. Rescue and cleanup only. Just like cities/counties do for flood areas. -

jeez. Has anyone else noticed that four of the five top current threads are Tejada threads? I think it's time to rename this forum Tejada winds.
