QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) does split season include 13 game plans? No. Split season means the actual Split Season plans (27 games). Ozzie plan holders are not characterized by the Sox ticket office as being season ticket holders. And before you start, don't complain to me about that, complain to the Sox.

No surprise on Timo. Harris I wasn't sure about. Good luck to them both. Willie did some good stuff for us over the years, and I think he'll get picked up as a utility up-the-middle guy somewhere. Not sure about Perez - maybe a minor league contract.

As someone pointed out a week or so ago, KW has basically sent a signal to JC and JG along the lines of: "One of you will be re-signed, the other will likely be traded. Let the games begin." And I think that's exactly what is going on here. KW will pick the one of the two of them that is the best value, and will try to move the other one, to be replaced by McCarthy in the rotation.

According to what my rep told me a week or two ago: January 24th: Season ticket holders get first shot at single-game tix January 25th: Split season holders get their shot January 27th: Everyone else Also, my rep just emailed me today and told me that there will probably be some sort of online form for the 1/24 and 1/25 season ticket holder dates to use. On 1/27, they open up via the normal ticketmaster nightmare.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 05:21 PM) I think he was addressing the whole Congress. But the object of most of his speech was one party. I think he directed it at only the Republicans. And while those criticisms are right on the mark, some of that fire also needs to be directed at his own party. In any case, his points are all valid, and all well-received for me.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) I love me some Oratory! A lot of folks on this board complain about the ineffectiveness of our government. We aren't alone. Even Congressmen are getting pissed off about it. Congressman James McGovern (a Dem from Mass) is pissed too. Here's his speech on the house floor this weekend. Thought it was great. One thing that needs to be changed in his speech, though: I agree with pretty much everything he said. But while the 'pubs control 55% of Congress, I wouldn't go so far as to say they deserve 100% of that responsibility. Maybe more like 80%, given the leverage that majority gives them in procedural circumstances. But its definitely a group screw-up. As the party which supposedly prides itself on fiscal responsibility (and mostly lived up to that billing until the last few years), the Republicans should be embarrassed with their behavior in the business of running Congress and the Executive since 2000. Terrible, even by government standards.

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 03:37 PM) What everyone seems to forget with these rumors is that the Sox seem to have very little confidence in Crede's back condition. When you take the injury, and combine that with negotiating with Boras, it seems very likely he'll get traded also. ^^^^^^^^^^^^ Those are the things that push it over the edge. Without the back and contract issues, Blalock and Crede are close enough overall that one could argue it would be better to keep Crede. But when his back and his agent and his soon-to-be absurd contract situation are taken into account, I have to admit (thought I hate saying this), Blalock is a better option. All that said, of course, it all depends on the deal we get in conjunction with Blalock/Crede.

I have a similar question. I want to send an attachment in a PM to someone, and I don't seem to have that option. But he sent me an attachment previously. What am I missing here?

FYI, if my calcs are correct, we now have a currently-contracted payroll of 78.8M. The players still left out there that aren't officially signed to my knowledge are Garland (ARB, made 3.4M in 2005) Crede (ARB, made .4M in 2005) Jenks (rookie status) Harris (ARB, made .365M in 2005, may not stick) Cotts (made .33M in 2005) McCarthy (rookie status) One of Perez/Borchard/Owens (Perez made $1M in 2005) Anyone we pick up before the season starts. I assumed that Anderson was in at 330k.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) 3yr $15M, seems kind of low to me. He must like it here. $4M this year $5.5M the next two. Thome makes more this season. Great deal. Are those the numbers they stated? 4, 5.5 and 5.5? Or is that a guess?
-
Sweet! Very psyched. AJ was such a key cog in the machine in 2005. And the numbers don't tell the story, either - his game-calling, pitcher-handling and dugout-hollering were all huge elements. Nice job KW!!! In the words of a great poet... HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY... JOY JOY JOY...

QUOTE(joeynach @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 03:07 PM) Its accurate for what is inputed, the problem is garbage in = garbage out, you cant predict every variable and lots of things change over the course of the year. That's one problem. I would contend that in baseball, the real problem is a lack of variable scope. Too many variables that aren't accounted for numerically. Therefore, even if your input is accurate, it only deal with a small sliver of the total equation in reality.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 01:50 PM) They may not have cheaped out. Isn't Pirates a Disney property? Disney is kind of territorial about their releases and may have had a problem with licensing the music for a DVD release of anything. I don't know if that is what happened, I'm just throwing out a possibility that maybe the Sox tried to license the music and were rebuffed. Definitely possible. That's why I included the "I am guessing" caveat. I suppose if someone wanted to, we could probably find out.

QUOTE(the People's Champ @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 12:14 PM) 2005 - Jim Thome + Javy Vasquez = Championship Huh? 2005 minus Jim Thome plus Vazquez equals championship? What are you talking about? -
Thanks for the review. Honestly, since I already have the MLB one, the main reason I wanted the Pride DVD was for the player intros and the music that came with it (which I loved watching at every game). It sort of annoys me that they apparently cheaped out and went with other music that (I am guessing) wasn't as costly to license. Seems petty to me - I'd have paid an extra $1 for the DVD to be the real thing. Since that was my main motivation, I may not bother buying it at all. But then again, the interviews with players and coaches do sound pretty cool.

Seems like a lot of people have missed their naps the last few days. Maybe it's the silly season and all. No matter what it is, I'm pretty damn happy that the Sox won it all, so that any of this conversation could even occur. I can just sit back and enjoy the mayhem. KW is evil for not leaving room for Ross Gload!!!! He contributed to the 2005 WS team too, ya know! ... and stir it up once in a while.

QUOTE(NCsoxfan @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:58 PM) Eric Chavez I have no source to confirm that Williams is targeting Chavez, but many of you will remember back in June/July that KW was targeting him. A package of Garland and Crede for Chavez would be acceptable to me, but my guess is that Beane would want McCarth/Crede for Chavez, given his propensity for young and cheap starters. Now the question is, would Chavez bring added value to our club? I dont know, but it has always been apparent that KW has loved him. Since you have no source and no evidence whatsoever, shouldn't the thread be called "IN MY OPINION, KW's real target is...", or "I THINK KW's real target is...", or "THE NAME I JUST PULLED OUT OF MY BUTT THAT IS KW's real target..." :banghead

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 01:17 PM) Another point I forgot. Outside of Chicago/NW Indiana....there aren't a lot of Sox fans nationwide, as opposed to the Cubs who have fans ALL OVER THE PLACE. So overall, the Cubs probably have more fans....but in this area it's pretty even and we may even have a slight advantage. This is, in great part, because the period of time from the late 70's until very recently - WGN. The Cubs had the benefit of a nationally-televised network, and the Sox did not (not one of Reinsdorff's best monents). The Braves benefited similarly with TBS. Thing is, that factor is not such a big thing now. The Sox share WGN with the Cubs. Plus with the various cable and satellite TV sports options nowadays, the viewer outside Chicago doesn't get such a single-team picture. Therefore, I think any advantage from this effect is doing to dwindle over time. -

In the short run, our increase in attendance and general fan base won't likely effect the Cubs. These new Sox fans aren't people who go to Wrigley for every game - these are people who weren't going to games much at all before, or cared much one way or the other. Fan bases are not stolen, they are built. That said, in the long run, the more the Sox do to win and make the ballpark experience better, and the more the Cubs turn Wrigley into an alcohol-drenched version of the Magic Kingdom for adults (and still lose), the more families and KIDS will grow up Sox fans. Then, as time goes on, the tide shifts. My .02. -
QUOTE(VAfan @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 10:18 AM) Just remember that had we had Javier Vasquez this year instead of either Jose Contreras or Jon Garland, we not only wouldn't have won the World Series, we wouldn't have made the playoffs. Check it out. There's no reason to believe Vasquez would have pitched better in the AL facing DH's instead of pitchers. And given the Sox' difficulty scoring runs, there is no reason to believe he would have done better than 11-15. Compared to Garland's 18-10 or even Contreras's 13-9, that's enough of a swing that Cleveland wins the division and we sit home. :headshake We don't have Vazquez instead of Contreras or Garland. We have Vazquez instead of El Duque (upgrade, possibly huge one), and we MIGHT end up with McCarthy replacing Garland (could be downgrade, or upgrade, but most likely somewhere between).
