  1. QUOTE(Balance @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 05:54 PM) I think we're talking about different things. I was looking at the Sox website, and there's something called the White Sox Ticket Exchange (https://secure.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/cws/ticketing/ticket_exchange.jsp) which allows season ticket holders to sell some of their season tickets online. Then, there was what you're talking about, which is if you don't use one of your tickets, and don't sell it to anyone, you can exchange the unused ticket for an upper-deck ticket to a future game. Maybe they need to change the name of one program, since it's sort of confusing. Yes they are different things. She was responding to my post about the unused ticket trade-in thing (called Season Ticket Exchange Date on the website), so she was on-track with that. I actually asked about both things earlier in the thread.
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 04:58 PM) Dude, they are representing their country in a tournament. This is the greatest honor an athlete can achieve. Bingo. I think it's great that our country is willing to at least give a little bit of meaning to the phrase "World Champion" in this or any other sport. I will feel no worse about a WBC injury than a ST injury. In fact, I'll feel better about something happening in WBC, since it was for a worthy cause. I love the Sox, but I also love baseball, THE SPORT. Therefore, anything that brings more of the world to the table... so much the better.
  3. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) Ticket exchange=stub hub. Overpriced way to get tickets. You are better off calling the ticket hotline and ordering for face value. I was concerned that might be the case. There is also the thing referred to on the Sox website as "Season Ticket Exchange Dates", which my rep said was a list of games you could trade your tickets for, 1-for-1, that gets decided on in March sometime. I am hoping I can just take advantage of that for a couple games. Anyone ever use that feature? Were the games any good last year that fell into that group?
  4. I'm glad someone brought this up, because I'm also a new season ticket holder (had an Ozzie Plan last year) with a 27-gamer, and have questions about Ticket Exchange. Specifically, we took the weeknight plan (Hit and Run). Ultimately, I'd like to get tickets to a handful of weekend games too. Ideally, I'd like to just trade with some other season ticket holder. My ticket rep there is a way to do this - a list of exchangeable dates that gets published sometime in March or so. Anyone familiar with that process? And how it worked last year? Is it relatively easy to do the ticket-trade thing? Is it better to just try to sell sets and then buy new ones individually? Thanks in advance for any help!
  5. All depends on what is available, of course. But I'd guess the likely candidates are Marte (almost probable), El Duque (for the right deal), and Hermanson (if someone is willing to take a chance on him). Maybe Borchard and/or one of our 1B prospects as well.
  6. QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 05:50 PM) I'm not a hitter.. so that line bugs the hell out of me. NOR AM I. Just to clarify. But society allows for it, to some ambiguous extent. Very frustrating.
  7. QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 05:41 PM) She said "I'm going to beat your ass" repeatedly.. that is assult, is it not? And she was tugging on the poor things arm so hard I wouldn't doubt if it came out of the damn socket.. I wasn't aware of that law. Thanks for the heads up. I'll definitely keep it in mind. It's such a tough area with kids. With adults, it's easy. If one adult says to another, "I'm gonna beat your ass," then that's assault. Kind of weak, but it does threaten imminent harm. But, as bizarre as it seems, this culture gives some leeway in that regard to parents disciplining kids. And that line is not consistent in the law, or easy to determine. For me, I'd probably have to see something more than a slap or a spanking, but I can't say for sure where the line is. More so than any aspect of that job, I hated having to intervene where kids were involved. Just made my stomach ball up every time.
  8. Given that what you saw probably didn't constitute assault or battery (which are seperate things, contrary to what Hollywood tells you), you couldn't do much from a legal standpoint. But if she really started hitting her, and I mean more than a spanking, here is something for everyone to keep in mind. In Illinois, and most states nowadays (I know Colorado for sure), any type of domestic assault or battery, on an adult or child, no longer requires a victim-complainant for charges to be filed. In other words, if you witness someone beating their spouse or child, you can indeed call the authorities, and have them arrested. You can be the complainant, or the police can even do that on behalf of the state - so the victim does not need to "file charges", or even agree with filing charges. If someone's safety is at risk, you can even hold the suspect in non-forcible custody, though I don't recommend anyone do that without some training. No guarantee the prosecution would ultimately succeed, of course. Just something to keep in mind, if anyone ever sees such a thing. I dealt with a lot of this in a previous profession. But whatever you do, don't put yourself in danger. Do only what you feel is OK for you.
  9. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 10:13 AM) This means the Yankees will get Farnsworth to replace him. I wonder how much they will over pay him? Your answer: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051202/ap_on_...kees_farnsworth A LOT.
  10. QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 09:38 AM) If you think about it, the El Duque of 2005 is still a better starting pitcher than what a lot of teams have in their #3, 4, or 5 spots in the rotation; Yessir. Duque will be moved if at all possible, and I think it may happen well before ST. If we can move him along with Marte and maybe a prospect (probably in seperate deals), we could probably get something good, with the picthing market being so thin. I'm hoping we can move those two for a strong, non-head-case LH reliever and Mr. Mueller (not necessarily in the same deal), who I think works nicely for a 5th bench guy and insurance on Crede.
  11. QUOTE(KWs OK for Me @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 04:46 PM) SP 1. Buehrle 2. Contreras 3. Garcia 4. Garland 5. McCarthy RP 6. Hernandez 7. Cotts 8. Politte 9. Jenks 10. Vizcaino 11. Marte I've been hearing that Hermanson won't be ready by the beginning of the year due to the back problems. I don't remember where I heard that, but I'm not sure, if anyone has any info on that it would be great. C 12. Pierzynski 13. Widger IF 14. Crede 15. Iguchi 16. Konerko 17. Thome 18. Uribe 19. Ozuna 20. Mueller/Backup IF (Primarily 3B) OF 22. Dye 23. Podsednik 24. Anderson 25. Backup OF who can play all 3 spots Thats what I see happening. Interested to see what you guys think. I agree with all these (we won't carry 12 pitchers), except for your bench. You have some positions that are not well-covered. I suspect the bench will look like this: Widger © Ozuna (3B, corner OF, or SS if absolutely necessary) Harris (2B, SS, CF) Backup OF (Could be any of Anderson, Owens, Borch or someone outside) Mueller or other INF (could be Gload, or Cintron, or ???) That gives you essentially 2 backups at any given OF position and all INF positions, and the Mueller-esque position can be anything.
  12. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 07:56 PM) In house and 1 more incoming.. You thoroughly enjoy being a tease, don't you?
  13. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 06:39 PM) Kareer OBP Thome -- .408 Kong -- .349 I don't Kare where he hits it, Thome should always be in front of Konerko... I think we can put this discussion to bed for a while - did everyone read the Trib this morning? I agree with Thome hitting 3rd... but more importantly, so does Ozzie. As quoted today in the Trib, Oz wants Thome-Konerko-Dye in 3-4-5. Thome is the best OBP guy on the team, not to mention a fly-ball hitter (sac flies) and a huge RBI guy all around. Good call, Ozzie.
  14. QUOTE(Wanne @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 03:44 AM) Me too! I like Juan right where he's at. Here's an unlikely scenerio...what if Owens comes in to ST and absolutely tears it up (which he'd have to)....there's your 2 hitter. Like I said...not likely at all...but ya never know. I was hoping for that exact thing - Owens comes in to take that CF spot, and the 2-hole, and adds speed. Kill three birds with one stone! But alas, per the Trib, Oz wants Uribe in the 2-spot.
  15. QUOTE(Wanne @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 03:36 AM) The Trib said that Ozzie was gonna try Uribe in the 3 hole. Manager Ozzie Guillen said the Sox would try Juan Uribe in the second spot ion the batting order, even though Uribe is known as a free swinger. Uribe, however, tied for the team lead with 11 sacrifices last season and drew 10 of his 34 walks in the final month. Should Uribe fail, Tadahito Iguchi could move back to that spot. Guillen would prefer to bat Iguchi sixth or seventh for his run-producing ability. The Sox also are seeking a left-handed-hitting infielder who can spell Joe Crede at third. The Sox had interest last spring in Arizona switch-hitter Alex Cintron, who could be available. Actually, it was the 2-hole that Ozzie was talking about with the Trib. Oz wants Uribe to hit 2nd. Interesting move - some people have suggested it might help Uribe control his swing a bit. And Uribe does sacrifice a lot. He'll just have to work on that inside-out swing. Also interesting, Oz said he wants Thome-Konerko-Dye for 3-4-5. Glad to see that - no reason to put Thome (our best hitter) anywhere other than 3rd.
  16. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 05:39 PM) Is there any chance that Thomas could be back with the Sox next year? Not as a bench coach but as a player. Go back a page or two in this thread, and see Hahn's quotes. I think the answer is no.
  17. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 04:45 PM) I think the no-trade clause specifies the 6 teams the Sox CAN trade him to without approval. Now I understand your list. Oh wait, I was the one who misread it. He has just six teams he WON'T go to - you were right. Huh. Seems like the list would be the reverse, having only certain teams he would want to go to.
  18. QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 04:44 PM) Yeah, I just made up the list really quick. Why would he have a no trade clause for the Angels when he just went there for a possibe contract. I was just thinking of teams that he would refuse to go to. I think the no-trade clause specifies the 6 teams the Sox CAN trade him to without approval. Now I understand your list.
  19. QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 04:32 PM) Cubs, Red Sox, Twins, Indians, Yankees, Royals You were joking on the teams, right? D-Backs would be there, and the Angels, definitely. Maybe the Cubs.
  20. QUOTE(Brian @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 04:00 PM) Would of loved to of seen him hit #500 with us. My fav of all time! Only if someone on the Sox gets hurt and we trade for him in July. He could become the new Everett.
  21. Make a play for Myers. Trade Marte for prospects, pitchers preferably or 3B. Nothing else needed. Owens in CF, or Anderson maybe.
  22. In the ESPN article online, Craig Landis says that the Angels offered "a little more" than the Sox, but that PK wanted to stay in Chicago. Said some great things about the fans here.
  23. Quoted from Scott Merkin article on whitesox.com: "If you are talking about a scenario where Paul, Jim and Frank are all under contract at the same point, that's a difficult mix to get them all enough at-bats and to keep them all sharp and productive," said assistant general manager Rick Hahn of the likelihood that Thomas would return with Konerko and Thome. Thomas, Carl Everett and catcher Raul Casanova are the three remaining White Sox free agents. None are expected to be offered arbitration. If the Sox acting-for-the-moment GM says this, I think you can put it on the board. Frank is gone. to you Frank. Greatest Sox offensive machine ever. I look forward to seeing you in Cooperstown with your Sox hat on.
  24. QUOTE(SouthSidePride05 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 02:55 PM) I wonder if the fans will opt for the Upper Deck seats OR just stay at home if all Lower Level tickets are sold out? I know a lot of people who didn't go to a game last year because only Upper Deck tickets were available, and they just ended up staying at home and watching the game on tv. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I don't get that. I like the UD - the views are great from the right parts. We got split seasons in Row 1, section 522, rather than get a far-back lower deck set.
  25. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 02:32 PM) where did u hear Hermy would miss the year with surgery? Last I read, his back was making it harder and harder to pitch with any regularity. And with his age, and given the nature of lower back issues, I think it's likely. It has NOT been confirmed or reported, this is my own opinion, given his condition.
