FS Rankings Week: Prospects 16-30
NorthSideSox72 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
Disagree strongly on middle infield. Madrigal at the top, plus Sosa, Rivera, Curbelo etc. below, on a team that already has Anderson and Moncada? Not a problem area. Maybe even a strength. Agree on corner infield though. -

FS Rankings Week: the Just Missed prospects

No, he's not in the 30. On the radar, but not a rankable guy yet in our view. -
FS Rankings Week: the Just Missed prospects
NorthSideSox72 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
He was not among those seriously considered. He's on my radar personally, based on scouting reports from collegiate leagues and his power potential, but he's not TOp 30 material (at least not right now anyway). The numbers in Great Falls are more of a "that's what I would expect" thing, especially in the PIO. -

2018-19 NCAA Basketball thread

That dead period where KU went on a run mid-second-half was a killer. And yeah some of those late shots too. -

I plan to! -
Rodon and Fulmer were pretty clear picks at that level. Also Rodon was pre-Hostetler. and the Fulmer draft was specifically Nick running it from AFTER Fulmer. So not at all, really. And in fact the Madrigal pick specifically shows you they are all about BPA, considering they had an elite young talent there already. Every case you just brought up illustrates that it is not a thing anymore for the Sox (with again, Burdi being arguably the one exception).
-
This is really the opposite of true. What you are saying is what they would have done pre-Hostetler. Since Nick took over they've really tracked away from this. One exception is Burdi, who was 1-supp (a slot some teams like to do funky things with) and was still a solid pick at that range.
-
I think you should almost never take MLB need into account in the draft. I'm a solidly BPA guy, at least in the first 15 rounds or so. Then for the next 20 rounds you can start filling in depth and roster holes, but that's more about gaps in the system as a whole, not the MLB club.
-
Oh I'm not saying he's defintely THE GUY. Not at all. Just that I wouldn't dismiss the *possibility* yet either.
-
Thing is, Sheets pretty much did destroy MiLB pitching in 2018, save for literally one thing - home runs. He hit for a high average, got on base a lot, and was a plus defender. On the home runs, the raw is definitely there. He could be like Thome in that (AND ONLY IN THAT) he could be a strong guy who hits for average and doesn't add the power until he gets to the upper levels.
-
My guess is Eloy ends up there in a few years. Collins had a hard time in AA last year, on both sides of the ball. I think the chances of him being in the majors in 2019 are extremely slim. The smart move is for him to repeat at AA, then go to AAA once he gets better dialed-in, and allow him more time to potentially still be a catcher.

FS: Luis Basabe, Sooner rather than Later
NorthSideSox72 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
27% isn't as scary as it used to be, but it is high. That said, dude was 21 years old making him 3 years younger than league average. And he pairs that with high walk rates, so he clearly has some zone control. It's something to watch out for but I don't think it is a huge deal at this stage for him. -

By the way, he is "Rankin" on SoxTalk, just joined here too. -
This is the first post by our newest writer, Mike Rankin. Here he explores outfield prospect Luis Alexander Basabe, trying to evaluate what his 2019 might look like.

I understand they are a young team, and only really put the full roster together a few weeks ago, but how do they lose at home to a weakened KSU team and then go beat TT on the road? -
Fascinating stuff. But in the end, this has no effect on the Sox' chances either way. All noise.

FutureSox looking to add more affiliate correspondents
NorthSideSox72 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
It was 2020. FutureSox (myself, really) made a mistake. Baseball America had it as 2018, and then a Hahn quote seemed to echo that, but as it turns out Hahn misheard my question when I interviewed him. BA didn't know because the Intimidators didn't bother to tell anyone they extended. -
As part of the site's off-season transformation, FutureSox is looking to bolster their affiliate coverage by seeking out additional local folks to act as correspondents. This could be at any of the affiliates (Charlotte, Birmingham, Winston-Salem, Kannapolis, Great Falls, AZL/Glendale/Phoenix, and I suppose Boca Chica too). Content could include stories, photos, videos, interviews or whatever you can provide that is truly local content - in other words, not something you can get out of just reading the box score. If interested, reach out to @Clint Cole via DM here or email FutureSox at gmail, and more details can be provided. Thanks!
