  1. Here's the FutureSox write-up, which includes video of both Banuelos and Yurchak and scouting info on both as well.
  2. That is a dramatic oversimplification. What is true though is that pure statistical success is NOT the main driver for prospect evaluation.
  3. Yeah I'd quote the text I got from the author, but this is a family site, haha.
  4. Later this month, the White Sox will need to set a final 40-man roster prior to the Rule 5 Draft, and there are quite a few prospects that need protection. Not all of them will fit. James explores all the eligible players and what might happen this month in order the game of roster roulette.
  5. SS knows I don't back him that often, but I do here. Anti-semitism is part of that white nationalist realm, and there are more than a few people who are not norse/Scandanavian types that are still white nationalists.
  6. He basically slow-rolled for 7 years, then poof - major leaguer out of A-ball in a few months.
  7. That is true. My hope is though, he can develop skills around framing especially, like Flowers did. Narvaez is still young enough to learn a thing or two. Think of it this way... remember during this past season when Zavala went up to AAA specifically because he went from an iffy receiver to an OK one? That was his age 24/25 season. Narvaez is 26 right now. That's not an enormous difference in terms of the ability to learn that stuff.
  8. Whether he is 100% white himself or not, the bomber has espoused white nationalist views. It's all out there on social media.
  9. I'm not sure White Sox fans truly appreciate how unusual Omar Narvaez' path to MLB catcher has been. For so many reasons, he shouldn't be here, but he is anyway. So I wrote up his pro development story, highlighting some of the very narrow windows he hit along the way. Enjoy.
  10. Your logic is kinda twisted here. It is definitely true that people are influenced by any number of media channels, and for some, stuff like The Daily Show may be their biggest regular dose of political news. So it makes a difference. But no one is saying they are some big bad beast, except the Trump apologists and his own Administration.
  11. Those organizational All Stars are just big Thank Yous. People who performed well. That's not the same as prospect stock, and I don't think it was intended to be. In other words, they serve two different purposes.
  12. Look, I like Ozzie the character too. But managing the Sox again? People seriously want to hire a guy who literally quit on his team before finishing a season? Who has been out of managing or coaching this long, and is not likely to be able to make heads or tails of useful analytical data? And who preferred a team with speedy versatility dudes instead of Jim Thome? Hard flippin pass.
  13. This post just makes me very sad. If it is true that many in younger generations really see it this way - that they just aren't interested in actually finding out what is going on, and feel like they are "being told to vote" - then they are assigning away the power of their rights to others. That's scary, and the fault rests entirely with those people who feel that way.
  14. I mean, that's your choice. You can watch sound bites and never understand the issues, or you can choose to dig in and learn something. Short videos are not going to get into the depth to tell a real story, much of the time. And honestly I get the impression that TV is much more watched by the older generations, not the younger ones who get their info online. Also, how is reading an article on WaPo or WSJ different technologically than reading a CNN or Fox or MSNBC article? They are online the exact same ways. One group is just higher quality and greater depth in most cases.
  15. Just avoid any of the 24-hour crap, especially talking heads. Turn off CNN, MSNBC, Fox, all of that. Read a journalistic source like WaPo or WSJ or NYT or The Economist or heck even the Tribune. You will find it is of much higher quality, and even though each of those can sometimes show bias too, if you leave out their Editorial parts, they are really quite fair.
  16. I think this is pretty spot-on. There are plenty of media that get scolded without much reason, but much of the info-tainment garbage on mainstream networks leans left. Not all of course, and not nearly as far as some make it out to be, but it is there. And also, yeah, it's negative often because the guy is just a train wreck. It wasn't like this with Bush, even on "Fake news" CNN, because while Bush (and Obama and any other President) deserved some criticism, none of them were the abject disasters that Trump is.
  17. You are conflating Patriotism and Nationalism. Patriotism is being proud of your country, nationalism is defending your country no matter what it does. Your bolded statement is Patriotism, not Nationalism. You can go Google the history of the words if you'd like, but it's important to note that the two words were originally used almost interchangeably, with the only real difference being Nationalism seeing your country in some way above others. Patriotism doesn't require that. But then Nationalism was sort of co-opted by movements like the Nazis and other facist regimes to support for a unified battle against "the other" by fomenting the belief that culture = nation, or more specifically Majority Culture = Nation. When you make that leap, all minorities are, in essence, enemies. Understanding the history is key here. I think you honestly don't see the distinction, but there is one, and it is quite important.
  18. Almost everything in the bolded graf is factually false. That is probably why you are surprised. The reason the "anthrax" letters to Trump officials didn't get much press is because they were not in fact Anthrax or anything else hazardous, which they knew pretty much right away. It did get quite a lot of coverage until that was known, then it dropped off the radar. Which is what one would expect. The baseball game shooting? That was top story for days and had constant follow-ups and coverage. Not sure why you didn't see it, but it was very much there, big time coverage. The Rand Paul episodes with his neighbors have been covered on and off for the entire time, but that one is also weird because Rand Paul himself has wanted to keep it quiet. His choice I guess. I honestly don't know anything about comedians saying stuff, probably true, that's kinda what comedians do. I find no stories from anything other than wild conspiracy sites about any attempts by ISIS (or anyone else) trying to assassinate Trump. Of course all Presidents get threats, the USSS handles it, and we generally hear nothing about it unless something leaks publicly. And people violate motorcades and other security perimeters pretty regularly, again, for all Presidents, so why cover something like that unless they actually make it close to the President? I mean, that might help explain it, Or the fact that, you know, actual working bombs were sent to like a dozen people from a terrorist. Seems kinda newsy to me.
  19. This is some weird circular logic. You were happy with the top 3 guys, but upset they also got a throw-in (aka lottery ticket) arm? Anyone who can throw triple digits and come even close to the strike zone is a prospect. He just isn't the prospect the other three are. How can you like the top 3 but be upset that they got one more, even if he's not great? You lost me.
  20. Assuming MLB doesn't start actually enforcing against his balks. As a GM I'd have to take that risk into consideration. He is clearly balking, and some ump or umps are going to call him on it more often going forward. You mess with is delivery that way, he's probably not the same pitcher anymore.
  21. Authorities have said they are "rudimentary but functional". So they certainly could go off, but I have zero idea how bad that would be or if they actually would have of course.
  22. He was drafted in 2012, but didn't sign. Went to school 4 years, didn't get drafted again. Signed as UDFA in 2017 at 23, played only half time. And he was 23 in the PIO so the numbers need to be taken with a lot of salt. 2018 he was 24, playing as a bench guy. Basically, he's not a prospect, he's just an org soldier, and he's consistently played much older than average.
