Your new Supreme Court nominee is....
NorthSideSox72 replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Filibuster
We really have no idea what's in that report, and won't. And that's utter B.S. They can redact names if they need to but holding the report from the public and putting a gag on Senators to even discuss it in public? That makes the process a sham, even if the report itself may not have been. Disgusting. -

Yeah so I'm going to have to disagree. I think it seems quite likely that Brett underplayed his level of drinking, but that's not perjury. Nor is any sort of calendar conflict, such as... I mean, we have taken to interpereting some shorthand on a calendar that may or may not mean what you think on an event that may have occurred within the year prior to him reaching the drinking age, and he may not have recalled the timing exactly? GImme a break, this is not a "clear as daylight lie". A lie requires conscious falsehood and you can't prove that here. There are no "proven lies", at least not yet. Everyone can just stop that B.S. -

I agree. Seems likely he lied about the drinking but certainly it's not proven - too vague perhaps to really prove anyway. And yeah, that's what I am saying - treat it the same in this case. No one has "proven" any lies here at all. from what I can tell. -

When you open with this, the rest is irrelevant. There is no proven lying. -

The bolded is. again, utterly false. There has yet to be any clear evidence of anything she has said being untrue. You can keep making that up all you want, but it doesn't make it more true. And I'm sorry you actually think she is doing this for money? This is a well-educated person who knew beyond a sliver of a doubt that her life would turn to absolute shit if she came forward. There is literally no motive for her to lie about this. The negatives far, far, far outweigh any positives in her doing so and you'd have to be blind to how she's been treated to not see that. Now is it possible she is misremembering? Or her memory has been tainted in some way, possibly even via therapy? Is it possible Kavanaugh did it but doesn't remember so he isn't truly lying either? Sure, those are all possible, though they are corner cases and don't seem terribly likely to me. But the idea she is making this up intentionally? Come on man, wake up and be willing to see just a tiny bit of common sense beyond the haze of Trumpism. -

To be clear, I think that Dem Senators have absolutely played games around this. I just don't think there's any reasonable evidence around this flying topic to call it perjury, or that her "story is falling apart". -

Literally none of the bolded has happened at all. Fear of flying? Does everyone you know tell everyone else they know about their fears? Of course not, most people keep most of that to themselves by nature. The fact that some knew she feared it and some didn't proves zero. There has been no evidence at all about the "double door" thing being a lie. Someone picked up some info as to other reasons the door may be there, which is not at all the same thing and I think you know that. Nothing in her story has, from any information I've seen, changed in character either way. No more corroboration, no more evidence against. Nothing. -
We (FutureSox) did one of these about a year and a half ago, and readers seemed to really enjoy it. So we did it again, but with a different set of bloggers. Writers from Sox Machine, BP South Side, Loop Sports and FutureSox got together to answer 8 questions, resulting in 4,000 words of perspective. None of the questions resulted in the 4 writers completely agreeing.

I guess I'm unclear how this in any way means Ford's story is falling apart. Because there may be other reasons the front door was put in? I mean, that's not even as important as Kavanaugh's obvious drinking history he lied about, but neither really get to the main point of the investigation. Doesn't seem like anything to see here. And do we need another thread for this same discussion? -
I mean I wish it wasn't true, and that this could be solved by just some marginal tax increases on the very wealthy or by just cutting back some superfluous state services. But you can't cut down $60B in unfunded obligations that way. I would love to see a gubernatorial candidate just come out and say "Here's the thing. We are going to increase income taxes on everyone a little bit and the rich by more, cut more services and infrastructure spending, and shift a bunch of burdens to localities. It will suck, but in 10 years we will be in a financially stable place." You know, being honest. At this point that kind of political tactic might even work.

Illinois is in such a deep financial hole right now that the only way out is to both increase revenue AND decrease services. Any politician promising just one or the other is lying through their teeth.

lol, that would be even more idiotic than McConnell promising a vote will happen before the investigation can complete. Both are suicide runs that accomplish zero. It's stomping of feet. -

Someone explain to me why McConnell is out there saying there will be a vote this week. And I don't mean explain to me why he's a partisan jackass trying to ram thru a pick - I get that part. The FBI investigation started late Friday. A week goes to this late Friday. Then it takes a little time to deliver the results - at least Saturday, more likely Monday or Tuesday. Which means McConnell is suggesting a vote before the investigation is complete. Which he knows, or should know, means that Flake, Murkowski and Collins will vote NO if they haven't read the results of the investigation yet. Which would mean the end of Kavanagh's nomination. So does McConnell not want him in? Or is Mitch just senile and can't add days? Why would he set a suicide pact deadline? -
The question of whether Hahn was the right guy for this is certainly valid. But no one at all is saying the rebuild is dependent on Kopech. But the rebuild is going pretty much as should be expected at this point. A few more injuries than you'd like to see, but also a few accidental finds like Palka and Narvaez (each flawed but potentially useful). This thread generally is just really misinformed (not really directed at you, just the tone of the overall discussion).

The 2nd to last of our end of years series, we look at the AAA Charlotte Knights. A few star performances but not much offensive depth meant the team finished with a pretty mediocre record. 2019 looks like it should be better. Read about the highlights right here. The last of this series, the Winston-Salem Dash review, will go up tomorrow. Then shortly after we are going to be starting something new for FutureSox, so stay tuned.

lol By the way, I wasn't trying to say I like polygraph tests or that I even think they should be used here. Just saying the standard for them seems to align pretty well to this type of use, if we are going to be consistent. -

And they use them as part of the process to... screen applicants for jobs. Kinda like Kavanagh is applying for one right now. -

The projection for 2019 is mostly focused on Opening Day, yeah. Plus there's a logjam of outfielders as it is. My best guess is Adolfo actually goes back to Winston, maybe for a month in May/June, before going to AA. By then, one or two of the AA outfielders hopefully will have moved up to AAA. But again, it's just my guesses, and I likely will be wrong on some of them. -

Yeah and again, that was weird too. Lame duck legislators are unpredictable birds, even in the fidelity-above-all GOP of today. True breaking of ranks will be rare, but for those in that position, it does happen here and there. -

All the usual assumptions about a GOP Senator who occasionally bucks the party are out the window in the case of Flake. Not because he hasn't flaked out on words-only rebellion before, because he has. But he because he's a lame duck who at present cares only about legacy, and sometimes people like that do odd things at big moments. Like McCain on ACA. This whole things is horrifying but also fascinating, and anyone saying "oh we know how this will go" is just not paying close enough attention to the details. I wouldn't bet either way, I have no idea which way it will go, but Flake is a true wildcard here. -
Lots of big name prospects came through early and late, and the bullpen was very strong. But they didn't make the playoffs. Looking forward to 2019 though, this could be the best affiliate in the entire system. Read the season recap and 2019 sneak peek here.

You know, I think I was assuming McCain's seat was still open. Forgot they put Kyl in there. So I was thinking it was effectively 50-49 party split. Sorry. 2 of 3 (or really just 2 period) is harder, but this is not one of those that's predictable. I'd call it even money right now and would not bet either way. This whole thing is bananas.
