  1. Reminder - If you want to see what some White Sox prospects look up close, the FutureSox YouTube channel has exclusive video of over 70 current prospects, both in-game and BP. There are also a handful of interviews and post-game pressers. It's totally free. This is especially helpful because the MiLB.tv feed isn't usually very high quality. Here is the link, You can subscribe to the channel too, so that when we put up new batches of videos, you are informed right away. If you want to, you can also search the channel by player last name.
  2. I would not pretend to know all the reasons, but I know some. You highlighted one - the inability to come up with playable pitches beyond 2 or 3. Sometimes it's also physical endurance - some guys lose command and/or velo more easily with more innings, even at full physical maturity. Others might have 2 really good pitches and a few really bad ones, so after some attempts, they just drop the bad ones and make them relievers. And yet others have mechanical concerns that are lessened in shorter outings. In Johnson's case, I don't know, and in fact there was talk at one time about moving him to starter. But I can say that his command is still very loose, and in a relief role he can more emphasize a couple or three pitches for focus. Maybe? Not real sure, sorry.
  3. The White Sox got you down? Rebuild taking too long? In this week's column, Julie has some very serious ideas for adding some spice to the org, from Class A all the way to the majors. FutureSox Consulting, available for immediate hire.
  4. Another focus piece, this one covering flame-throwing right-handed reliever Tyler Johnson. This article was written by Dan Victor, who actually writes for a different site (Scouting the Sally) but did this piece as a guest for FutureSox. I'd be shocked if Johnson wasn't promoted at least once before the season is out.
  5. Yeah they, and BA, use different methodologies. We look system-wide at any player who played full time that week.
  6. Keon Barnum, White Sox minor leaguer, still exists and had a really strong week. See all the top performances from the farm in the last week right here.
  7. Is it a problem that Gavin Sheets, drafted for his plus power, has yet to hit a home run in 2018? Probably not. I dove into the question in detail here, with video and quotes. What do you all think (after reading the article)?
  8. In-depth Brady Singer profile here, with video etc.
  9. Next up in our series of draft previews, is hurler Brady Singer, who the Sox have reportedly been looking at. All the details you need are right here.
  10. The latest News and Notes is up, including a few key promotions and other transactions, Class A teams that continue to play well, and a whole bunch of good news links. Get caught up!
  11. McClure took a line drive off his leg, that's why he was removed early.
  12. Villa and Brown aren't even starters in Kanny (Brown was lately because LGon was out for a bit). They're bench guys, no need to do much there. Though if Cruz continues to struggle, VIlla will start to get more time. Blackman hasn't looked all that great since the first week or two of the season, no need to rush him. Gonzalez and Rivera should move up, but as caufield said, there isn't necessarily anywhere for them to go right now. Probably in June though.
  13. As SS said, NK did it themselves. Too many nuclear tests with apparently poor planning or safety protocols, and they basically collapsed the side of a mountain, probably destroying much of their test facility.
  14. Good call on Hamilton, I missed him but you're right, he should be in Charlotte soon. I could see Mendick to Charlotte, but not sure it happens real soon, maybe late in the season.
  15. Didn't feel like writing a whole FS article on this, but the topic has come up. As I've said, I think we see a big wave of promotions and roster moves around early June for a series of reasons (Kopech and maybe others to Chicago, Jimenez to Charlotte, Robert to W-S, guys too old dominating levels, making room for draftees among them). So if I had to guess, here is what I think will happen by, say, a week after the draft: TO CHAR: Jimenez, one of Zavala or Collins, Stephens, Michalczewski, possibly Guerrero TO BHAM: Cease, Dopico, Lambert or Flores, Basabe, Booker, Roman, Hickman, another reliever (and some backup C to replace one of the pair) TO W-S: Rivera, Gonzalez, Yurchak, 3 of the 5 KAN starters (who knows which), Ty Johnson, Escorcia TO KAN: Curbelo or Nunez, Destino, Zangari, Comito, and another couple Ext ST pitchers Of course the above will also require some releases or other moves in Charlotte and other places. I am pretty sure Barnum is gone by then. Ryan Brett is not a starting OF. One of the Charlotte catchers will go to Chicago or be gone. A few relievers here and there could hit the road.
  16. My guess is that in early June, we will see a huge wave of moves. Robert should join W-S by then, Kopech probably in Chicago by then, guys who keep being too good bumping up, and a need to make room in Kanny for some guys from extended (like Kincanon, Zangari, etc.) so that those rookie clubs have room for draftees in mid-June. Extended ST ends around first of June anyway. I'd be between Memorial Day and the draft, you will see a LOT of movement.
  17. Trump being a fellow bully who knew to call out the other bully's bluffs is part of it, so he gets credit there. But I remain convinced the main reason is that NK lost their test facility, some scientists and years of progress when they blew up the mountain and buried their work. KJU knows this, and thus now is the perfect time to pretend he wants peace. He gets to stall a awhile, get some more goodies, then he can decide whether to stick to it or go back for more nuke work. I am sincerely concerned TrumpCo isn't taking that testing facility aspect seriously. I am sure CIA knows, but I don't think Trump would want to hear it, because that would mean it wasn't all his doing.
  18. Winston-Salem already is down to 4 starters for practical purposes. Danny Dopico is a reliever, who the Sox I think like, but they are giving him spot starts for now as he develops command. See last night, when he threw three perfect innings, then crumbled in the 4th and 5th (which you'd expect for a reliever, really). So I think they have a slot open right now, unless they are planning to stretch Dopico over time to full starter innings.
  19. I think Battenfield might be a more likely candidate. But either one, or maybe even Rigler, are possible.
  20. We've got a feature on him going up early next week, that explores the lack of power a bit.
  21. This episode is a doosy. We got White Sox TV broadcaster Jason Benetti, as well as three prospects from Kannapolis. Really good stuff. All the details and download links here.
  22. Madrigal profile up on FutureSox. Lots of detail, videos, reports, etc.
  23. Thanks as always for the color. Very useful, though I think Julie was only half-serious with the comparison and went out of her way to say they were Different. I guess I should have had Julie get in touch with you for input! And nice work knowing the reference, I think you are the first to notice.
