  1. Get caught up on 5 weeks of news links, trades, other transactions and tidbits. Plenty to cover! Lots of good links in the last section.
  2. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jan 3, 2018 -> 03:57 PM) Don't know why Zavala is not on the White Sox Top 30 list, not that it makes any difference at this stage of the game. I remember that Northsider had him at # 15 or so a few weeks ago. He's been on the FutureSox T30 for the last couple years. He's also been on the BA list before, not sure if he'll be in the new one i the Handbook. The only T30 he isn't on today is MLB Pipeline, but I think that will change when they push a new list this month based on the words of Callis and Mayo.
  3. Second and final chapter, following up on the Danny Mendick post. This one covers catcher Seby Zavala, another under-the-radar (though becoming less so now) prospect. More quotes, video, etc. in here from various coaches, scouts, etc. Good stuff.
  4. Kim used to write regularly for FutureSox, but has backed away from some of her writing (for us and the A's) recently. She still pops in occasionally, and she decided to write in depth on two White Sox prospects in the AFL. This first post is on Danny Mendick. She opens with an intro to the Sox situation, an AFL overview, the team, then finally onto Danny's AFL and overall 2017 campaign. There is a video embedded too, along with quotes from Danny as well as some scouts and coaches. It's a long post, but there is some really good stuff in there. We will post the other part in a few days, covering Seby Zavala.
  5. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 03:15 PM) Don't take it to the bank from what I understand Sox dont have 500K left. The number I got indirectly from a pretty reliable source was that the team had $1.1M left in the pool. But it was not a source with the club, so, could be wrong.
  6. Ken (BuzontheSox) interviewed Alex Call recently, and the result is this focus piece looking at his 2017 and his future direction. Enjoy getting to know this under-the-radar prospect a little better.
  7. Here's a report on the White Sox results of the Rule 5 - one MLB draft pick, who they traded away, and one minor league pickup. See article for details.
  8. He isn't saying the Sox are interested. He is guessing they might be or should be. I don't think he's reporting here, he is speculating.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 01:57 PM) Has there been an update? According to this, Jones is supposed to be ready for spring training. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0713-story.html It's weird, I could have sworn I read something about him being set for maybe rehab in April-May and not MLB until later, but now I can't find it. Maybe I was confusing him with Rodon or something. I could be wrong!
  10. Tomorrow is the Rule 5 Draft, and the Sox will almost definitely take at least one player. They also have a few players at risk of being taken by other clubs. James (Y2Jimmy) previews the Rule 5 from a White Sox angle here, including a long list of potential targets. Enjoy!
  11. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 01:06 PM) Nate Jones? Yeah, it's true to say what the article said - none of the OD 2017 bullpen will be available to open 2018.
  12. Get your self prepped for what to expect from the Winter Meetings, that are just getting underway now. Brian highlights three areas of focus for the offseason mash-up meeting.
  13. CNN is certainly too easily excitable, and should not be looked at as a source of reliable journalism. At best, I find CNN handy to get an overview of what news items are happening in various corners of the world, just to keep up on topic areas. And come election day, they are the quickest to put up real numbers to look at in an overview as they come in. Beyond that, they are inconsistent, with reporting ranging from good to trash. This is why at some point I set up a feed made mostly of journalistic publications - WaPo, NYT, WSJ, Economist, BBC, NPR and a few local papers. That said, it is kind of hilarious that a White House led by a pathological liar is loving when CNN does something stupid and then admits and corrects it, when he's never admitted to the thousands of outright lies and just plain made-up stuff that comes from him.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 03:39 PM) It's a "currency" in that you can spend it, and its based on blockchain. But its the vaporware of currency Except currency is backed by something. Like a government or an asset. Bitcoin is basically a coupon created by someone to generate buying leverage without ever having to cash it in. It only meets half the requirement of a currency.
  15. Bitcoin's run is so full of open air that it makes the 2000 tech bubble look like bedrock. Also, it's not a currency.
  16. Heh. Another reminder that I was clearly wrong about Avi. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 2, 2016 -> 08:53 PM) Liriano Tilson Coats Engel Delmonico possibly May I would rather give ANY of those other players innings in 2017 than Avi Garcia. I suspect most of them will hit as well, maybe even better in some cases. And other than possibly Delmonico, they'd all provide defensive upgrades (and Delmonico has hitting potential, and can play 1B & 3B). Oh and they'd cost 500k, not 3M. My only hope is, this ends up like Viciedo where they ax him for 50k before Opening Day.
  17. This is what happens when someone who was a ballplayer attempts running a big, complex business. It's not even about smarts - it is the total lack of experience on the business side. And Jeter kinda refused to surround himself with close advisors who would know, just making it worse. I highly doubt Jeter even knew. He just hasn't set up a management structure capable of giving him the right info, because he doesn't even know what that is yet.
  18. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 4, 2017 -> 08:36 AM) Odd about Cooper. What's up with him? We have a story coming on that.
  19. Here is Part 2 of the "Mail Bag" #AskFutureSox, this one less about overall trends and more drilled down to specific prospects. Talks about Rutherford, Robert, Cease, Clarkin, Kincanon, Diaz, Cooper and more.
  20. Between here, Twitter, Facebook and Reddit, I got a lot more questions than I could reasonably answer in one article. So I am doing two! This is the first half, including questions about 40-man/Rule 5 questions, organizational depth needs, and affiliate roster projections and strengths. Second half will be published early next week.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 04:18 PM) Have you ever gone to an accountant? Mine is just magic I think. There was a point I reached where I had two kids and all those intricacies, three pieces of real estate (one owned home, one condo I rented out, one vacant land), worked as a consultant and ran an S-Corp. I decided that doing my own taxes was, at that point, idiotic. So I started using an accountant.
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 01:26 PM) There's still no final tax bill, nor is there a final CBO, JCT, or Treasury analysis on the impact of the bill. The whole thing is proceeding very much like ObamaCare.
  23. Good questions folks. Keep 'em coming. I'll close the door tomorrow morning (I've also got about a dozen questions from Twitter so far).
  24. We are in kind of a mostly dead period in the offseason, so... how about a Mail Bag? Ask your questions about the White Sox farm here, for an article to go up in a day or two. Let's hear them!
  25. The term "Indian" is a misnomer but was never looked at as derogatory. In fact after that term came into play, then the shift to Native American, it was the native groups themselves (along with anthropologists) who settled back in American Indians. Indian is in no way comparable to, say, Redskins. But this is all semantics and yet again trying to obscure the main points. Trump stood in front of a picture of Andrew f***ing Jackson, and used some childish insult against someone not in the room that diminished actual native peoples, at a ceremony to honor Navajo Dine. Just acknowledge that Trump is the worst and move on.
