  1. QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) Yikes!!!! 7 errors in 11 games, at third, does not sound encouraging. Have you seen a scouting report on his defense? I really wouldn't read much into defensive numbers from rookie ball in a pro debut for a 20-year-old. He's also not played there much yet. No I don't have a scouting report on his defense.
  2. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 02:27 PM) Rutherford needs to take a big step forward next year and really show us what he can do. He's a year older than most prospects drafted out of high school, so more production will be needed. Defensively he grades as average, so the bat must play for him to hold down a corner OF spot. And yet still two years young for current level. He doesn't need to make some giant leap, just needs to develop. Plenty of patience is OK here. A prep draftee playing A-ball in his second year and doing decent but not great is not a problem.
  3. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 10:27 AM) Any other news about anyone else going to the AFL besides Mendick ? Not that I know of, but rosters come out today.
  4. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 28, 2017 -> 02:46 PM) great write-up...thanks. Any chance Blake gets sent to AFL this next month? He's in his first full pro season and a teenager in Low A, pretty unlikely.
  5. Get to know Danny Mendick, infielder and recent pop-up prospect who has worked his way onto the radar (and will be going to the AFL). Includes quotes from Danny, his hitting coach, and others.
  6. Keep in mind too that Yurchak was a younger college player - he's still 20. So really he's just fine for that league. I like his chances of future success better than say Aaron Schnurbusch not just because of the 2 years age difference, but because Yurchak is showing excellent plate discipline.
  7. Here Rob (southside hitman) takes a look at where Blake Rutherford stands as his first full season of pro ball winds down. He talked with Blake to get his insight as well, so you'll see his quotes throughout.
  8. Here it is, your weekly Top Prospect Report. This is the weekly look at how the top fifteen prospects (plus a bonus player) have performed over the past week. Plenty of hot hands on the list.
  9. In another Once and FutureSox take, Julie this time looks back at newcomers who had hot starts (or at least, hot rookie seasons), to see where that went. There are some good and some bad.
  10. Here's the weekly News and Notes column, featuring a number of key prospects moving up the ladder and the postseason chase for the rookie affiliates among other news and links. Get caught up on anything you missed!
  11. Here's our detailed write-up, with videos and scouting information, links to interviews, etc. Everything you need to know (except the amount of pool room exchanged, which was not reported).
  12. Lopez starting tonight! Get to know him in the FS Prospect Profile.
  13. After a week off, here is the weekly Top White Sox Prospects Report. With the revised FS30, the top fifteen names have changed a bit. Get caught up on how the big dogs are doing!
  14. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 10:44 AM) Victor Diaz has had a "spotty" season. Okay. Meaning he's pitched in a few spots. Which is all he's been able to do.
  15. Julie takes a look at all the minor leaguers acquired since December (10 trades!) and how they've performed since their acquisition. Fun little check-in.
  16. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jul 29, 2017 -> 02:17 AM) but with all premium features (vegan leather, WTF is "vegan leather"? Leather is by definition, a hide. It can't be vegan. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 09:13 AM) Is there anything worse than buying a car? The sales pitches, the constant harassment, the constant upsells. I'd honestly pay a few extra grand to have an awesome experience test driving and then buying a car. I'm shocked that certain car manufacturers don't mandate this from the top down to the dealers they license. Be cool, don't be pushy, and we'll make buying a car from us an ENJOYABLE experience and we'll get repeat business. The wife and I ended up buying this weekend. We'd been test driving most of the 3rd row suv's out there the last few weeks. I couldn't talk her into a Tahoe (too big), a few were too small (CX-9, Highlander), some I felt were overly pricey for what you get (MDX, XC90). So we had it narrowed down to the Durango (so great with the Hemi), the Pilot (nice bang for the buck, probably the most typical/comfortable family SUV that borders on a minivan), and the Explorer. We ended up with an Explorer Platinum, their top of the line fully loaded trim. I was looking to buy new, without all of the bells and whistles, but they had a 2016 with 5k miles on it. I got it for about 22% off the sticker price, so i'm not sure I got a GREAT deal, but I don't think I got screwed either. Some of the features are really awesome - the fully automated 3rd row seats that include stow and go, the 360 degree sensors (every side and corner of the car), the front and back cameras, park assist, etc. etc. I've never had a car with auto/smart cruise control and wow, what a game changer. That's going to be awesome on our road trips. And it can tow 5k lbs, so future proofing if we get a small pop up camper/travel trailer. So yeah, if anyone is looking at a 3rd row suv, feel free to ask questions. That's been my world the last month or so. I feel like I know all of them pretty well at this point. I do a ton of research ahead of time to try to avoid most of the nonsense, and I ask for best prices via email or phone. But even then, there's the various BS they try to get you with in the deal making process. By the way, we still have our 2012 Pilot, and our other finalists back then were also the Explorer and the Highlander. Actually like the Explorer best at the time, but it turned out it was too long for our oddly shaped garage. Ended up loving the Pilot though, which is now our second/backup/need-a-monster car, so no regrets.
  17. Especially with people off SoxTalk for so long last week, why not get caught up on the news? Here's the weekly news and notes post with transactions, some good news links, the usual stuff.
  18. From Friday when the site was still on life support, here are the Prospects of the Month for July. Lots of hot bats.
  19. Finally, yes, we often have our writers post their individual lists if they want to. Here is mine... 1 Yoan Moncada 2 Eloy Jimenez 3 Michael Kopech 4 Luis Robert 5 Lucas Giolito 6 Reynaldo Lopez 7 Blake Rutherford 8 Alec Hansen 9 Zack Collins 10 Dylan Cease 11 Jake Burger 12 Spencer Adams 13 Dane Dunning 14 Casey Gillaspie 15 Gavin Sheets 16 Luis Alex Basabe 17 Micker Adolfo 18 Jordan Guerrero 19 Jordan Stephens 20 Luis Curbelo 21 Zack Burdi 22 Carson Fulmer 23 Seby Zavala 24 Ian Clarkin 25 Luis Gonzalez 26 AJ Puckett 27 Jameson Fisher 28 Aaron Bummer 29 Ryan Cordell 30 Amado Nunez My just missed, in order of last out: Bernardo Flores, Alex Call, Evan Skoug, Nick Delmonico
  20. On Delmonico, no one who missed the list was more heavily discussed among the writers. I think we mostly or all agreed the has a major league bat, one that could be of value as a role player. The problem is, his positional "flexibility" is that he can play below average (or worse) defense at third, first, LF and RF. That makes him a tough guy to keep rostered for long. In the right role, as a PH and off day fill in at all those positions, he has bench value maybe. But the defense severely limits his ceiling.
  21. I'm seeing a lot of discussion on Gillaspie being too high. I think it's informative to put here, the blurb we had on him from the list: He's sort of a binary prospect. Either he is what everyone seemed to think he was going into this season (which would make him in the 9-12 range), or he's truly hit a wall in AAA (which puts him probably in the 20's). We ended up at 14.
  22. QUOTE (Username @ Aug 1, 2017 -> 09:10 AM) Guessing this means Zavala made it. Mendick is probably in my top 30 based on the glove but I guess it's fair to want to see him hit in AA first given his age. With Mendick it's not a matter of age. He's 23 in AA now, which means he's age appropriate and even a little younger than league average. it's more about track record. This is a guy who didn't even have a starting role a year ago.
  23. It's rankings week for FutureSox. Our first installment of content is the Just Missed list - prospects who were discussed among the writers but just didn't fit into the final top thirty names. Not surprisingly with all this depth, this article is longer than usual, totaling 16 players instead of the usual 10-12 or so. Here's the list, with short blurbs on each prospect. Tomorrow, we publish the 16-30 names. Then Thursday, the complete list.
  24. Here's your weekly update - lots of transactions, lots of strikeouts, and links to the many trade-related news pieces all there.
  25. Get to know A.J. Puckett and Andre Davis, right here, with video.
