Lynch's behavior was out of line, though clearly, asking to call something a "matter" isn't at nearly the level as asking to have an investigation go away entirely. That said, it wasn't the subject of the hearing really, and only came up as a topic because some Republicans were defending the "team" by trying to distract.

The statement by Trump's lawyer in response to Comey's testimony is... amazing. It's got misspellings, inconsistent and weird spacing, and grammatical errors. It looks like it was written by a college freshman with dreams of going to law school. It's like that thing with his "doctor" during the campaign again.

Outfielder Austin Beck has been racing up boards this year, but there are some conflicting views on him, and it now seems there is a decent chance he could fall to the White Sox at pick 11. Also, the Sox worked him out yesterday, adding more smoke. Get to know Austin Beck.

This is part two of the two-part series from Julie, looking at big number seasons from prospects that made us think they might be really good, but generally turned out not to be. Part two covers 2011 to present. In case you missed Part one (2005-2010), here's that link.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 7, 2017 -> 11:59 AM) Nelson Acosta is the most well regarded pitcher on the Sox DSL team. Here's a tweet from raBBIt on him from last year. Brian Bilek @BrianBilek_ Nelson Acosta went 6 innings with 10Ks and four hits for the #WhiteSox Dominican Summer League team. After today: 37/1 K/BB in 33 innings. He's been statistically dominant, but I don't get the impression the scouting reports match that. He's now in his 4th year in the DSL, not usually a good sign. But... he also hasn't pitched yet, and is the only pitcher on the roster with no uniform number assigned, which makes me think he may not actually be there (and therefore would be in AZL or something to open 2017). We'll know for sure in a few days when they've gone full rotation.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2017 -> 09:50 AM) Because of the chaos in Venezuela I keep reading how the kids there are underscouted (people are quite literally scared to scout there) and underpaid because of it. Most of the scouting happens for the kids who can get out of VZ and get into the DR to be seen with the rest of the class. It doesn't mean anything for this kid specifically, but don't be surprised if we see some supercheap signings out of VZ that turn out to be way over their signing bonus in terms of production because of the lack of competition for some of them. Could be true, though I'll be honest and say I really just don't know.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 7, 2017 -> 09:10 AM) Is Anthony Coronado worth following? He's had a bit of a hot start and looks like he's 17 out of Venezuela for 150k. I would read next to nothing from 3 games in the DSL. But, he's 17 years old and got a six figure bonus, so certainly he could be a guy.

The DSL is a crapshoot statistically, but talent-wise, this year's club is the strongest it's been in over a decade. Not just Robert either, but a number of other key prospects. Read about some of the key players here.

It took a week off, but the Prospect Hot List is back with a double dip today. Find out who on the farm, regardless of prospect ranking, has been hot in the past two weeks of action. Lots of pitchers and hitters doing well.

Here's the weekly News and Notes column, covering a number of transacitons, news links, rehab stints, and updates on how each affiliate club is faring. Enjoy!

This pitcher probably gets picked before Sox pick at 11, but he had a rough outing recently and some suggest he could fall a bit (even before that outing). Here's the profile on Bukauskas.

Fool Me Once: Deceptive seasons from OK prospects

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 3, 2017 -> 10:08 PM) Good article, Matt. Very interesting. Thanks. It was a fun one to write, even though it exposed my previous lack of understanding. -

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jun 3, 2017 -> 01:04 AM) Who was the relief pitcher we had during that period that was just about unhittable for several seasons but never a prospect? I think it was remenowsky? Thought he was the next Keith foulke, got exposed as soon as he hit triple A. He was so damn good in the lower levels it never made sense to me why he wasn't a prospect and also how he could dominate all other levels until AAA. Dan Remenowsky. I wrote a long treatise on him a while back, and how he was an important lesson for me in prospect analysis. -
Here's the weekly report on how the top 15 players (plus one bonus) have been performing. For most, the answer is, they've been doing quite well. But there were a couple on the rough side.
-
Plenty of good performances on the farm in May. Prolific power from the bats, and a couple starting pitchers missed lots of bats. See who won the awards, and who else had big months and just missed. Who do you have your eyes on?

Julie takes a look at her favorite prospect each year that seemed like they should be good, but... weren't. This is 2005 through 2010. The 2011 to present period will come in a future article.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 31, 2017 -> 01:10 PM) We've talked about bringing winning groups up together. Really like how Kannapolis is playing. If we're gonna talk about intangibles, having both coastal carolina guys there with adolfo and booker and zevala seems to be creating a good atmosphere. Winston salem needs a lot of help. After the draft wouldn't mind seeing some move up but move as a group. I think by July if not earlier, you'll see a bunch of guys move up - Zavala, Booker, Fisher, maybe one of the middle infielders, along with Hansen, maybe Lambert, and some of the relievers in Kanny (there are a few decent ones). Not much blocking any of them in W-S except at catcher, but I think Collins ends up in BHAM by then. That clears room for some draft picks to filter up to Kanny too. I'd like to see Adolfo stay in Kanny for most or all of the year though.

Draft Prospect Preview: Jordon Adell
NorthSideSox72 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
While it is undoubtedly true that the Sox have struggled to develop hitters with raw offensive skills, you cannot simply cut off that part of the talent pool. The answer is to improve the development staff and methods, and guess what? They've made big changes in those areas the past couple years. And you have guys like Adam Engel and Tim Anderson starting to prove it wrong already. Electing to not draft hitters on the raw side, if they are the best available talent, is not a recipe for success in any case. -
Three draft prospect previews, three outfielders so far. Here is the profile on Jordon Adell, who is younger and far more raw than the previously discussed pair but has tantalizing tools.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 30, 2017 -> 04:35 PM) Why is Hickman still listed as a catcher? Mistake. Either because he was drafted in same class as C Mike Hickman, or because he was previously drafted by Cubs out of high school as a catcher, or both.
-
Kanny is already underway, they have a double-header. Winston-Salem is off, and CHAR was rained out already. BHAM has Cooper going. Scoreboard

Next in our series of previews of potential White Sox draft picks - Outfielder Adam Haseley from Virginia. Videos, scouting reports, etc.

QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ May 29, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) Kanny roster has him listed as a Catcher, they only have 12 pitchers on roster. I am going to assume he is really going to pitch in relief and not catch. Any ideas? The catcher thing is still a mistake on MiLB.com. They got him and Mike Hickman (who is actually a catcher) mixed up from when they were drafted the same year. Also, it's more than likely that Blake Hickman will be a starter, at least for now. He flipped places with Comito, who was in the rotation.
