Oops, I just updated the pinned thread to be a Rule 5 overall. I might merge them. -
Rule 5 Draft Thread (preview in OP)
NorthSideSox72 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
Article updated for: --Turns out the raised costs - 100k for MLB phase and 24k for minors phase - are actually for THIS year, so that is now reflected. --Added note that not only did Sox get Tago in minor league phase in 2014, they also got Omar Narvaez in minor league phase in 2013. One could argue the Sox have done better with the minor league phase than the major league one in the last few years. Draft starts in 10 minutes. Update here if you wish, this can be the Rule 5 thread. -
Thanks to some heady pre-writing done by our staff, we already have an article up with details on Giolito, Lopez and Dunning. Here it is - dig in!

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox

FUTURESOX ONLY HAS SO MANY WRITERS PLEASE SLOW DOWN KTHXBYE -
I don't get all the Top 10 mentions for Tilson I keep seeing, here and elsewhere. I have a hard time putting him higher than the 15-20 range, probably lower. Apparently I'm far lower on him that most. And I still think Adams is no longer deserving of a slot in the top 5 or 6. In fact with the new names, he's not in my Top 10.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 11:00 PM) Yea. The Sale trade has a chance to be a new age Cano and Syndergaard for us at best. A complete f***ing s*** show at worst. That's how prospects work. That said, for a guy who has been named the #1 prospect in all of baseball (Moncada), the history of failure at that level is very small. Almost all those guys provide at least some major league value, and a substantial number become stars. Kopech is more of the low floor guy, he's someone who (even if healthy) could end up barely touching the majors due to command and/or off-field stuff (or injury). The other two guys are true prospects - Basabe could be an above average major league starter, or he could never see the majors.

Tomorrow (Thursday) at 8am CT is the Rule 5 draft. Given the White Sox are rebuilding, it's possible they could use one of the two current open roster slots for a pick. They also have a couple guys at risk of being selected away. Here's a preview of who they might add and who they might lose.
-
Shoveled together from many sources, here's our deeper dive into Moncada and Kopech. Give it a read, includes embedded videos too. Similar article on the other two prospects coming tomorrow.

Just so you can get to know them before we do the deeper analysis pieces... A look at who the White Sox got for Chris Sale. Dig in!

2016 Minor League Catch-All thread

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 04:58 PM) FutureSox @FutureSox 11m11 minutes ago The #WhiteSox signed LHP Bryan Lara to a MiLB deal, per @MattEddyBA of @BaseballAmerica. Can't find any info on him. Crowd knowledge? I did talk briefly with Matt Eddy from BA. His full name is Bryan Rafael Lara, and was assigned to AZL. This probably means he's a LatAm amateur, given the complete lack of info out there on the guy. -
Our Rob Young (southside hitman) did a write up focusing less on Sale and a rebuild, and more on the 5 elite headliner prospects being discussed. Who are they, what do they bring to the table? His look at all five is right here. You should give it a read, so that if/when a deal comes through, you already know something about the return.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 12:40 PM) Saying he may to hit the average outfielders production while not being good enough to man left field seems not good to me. For a 4th round draft pick, saying a guy has average offensive MLB starter production within reach, with mixed defensive skills that are still a question mark, that's actually pretty good. Your average 4th rounder doesn't get there.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 11:02 AM) Pretty brutal Jamison Fisher review too. I didn't think it was brutal. Seemed pretty positive to me overall.

Eric is good, I like his stuff. That said... I think he's too high on Adams, Tilson and Flores - way too high on the latter two. And too low on Nunez and Adolfo. Just my view.

The latest weekly update is up. A number of key things came up in the past week, though this week should be even bigger.
-
Liriano Tilson Coats Engel Delmonico possibly May I would rather give ANY of those other players innings in 2017 than Avi Garcia. I suspect most of them will hit as well, maybe even better in some cases. And other than possibly Delmonico, they'd all provide defensive upgrades (and Delmonico has hitting potential, and can play 1B & 3B). Oh and they'd cost 500k, not 3M. My only hope is, this ends up like Viciedo where they ax him for 50k before Opening Day.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 2, 2016 -> 03:47 PM) via I mean... the new President has zero political experience, and succeeded in business because he was given the keys to the kingdom. And his chief policy adviser is most known for starting an alt-right website. What could possibly go wrong in foreign relations? Oh and, he spent time in nearly every speech making out Jina as evil, and encouraged Japan to build nukes. Yeah, these Sino-US relations are gonna go great.

Lawrie/Garcia could be non-tenders
NorthSideSox72 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Avi is no part of a future, and he's not good enough to help a competing club either, so he should be non-tendered. But it's the Sox, and they likely keep him around. Lawrie is a tougher one, it kinda depends on their plan for 2017. -
He profiles similarly to Jacob May in many regards, though Tilson seems to have a solidly better hit tool. Both have 70-grade speed, both are true CF's, both smaller framed players, both draw some but not many walks, both have fringy but playable arms for the outfield, neither will hit for significant power. For me he's a 4th OF on a competitive team, or a starting CF on a rebuilding one maybe.

Not a ton going on in the past week, but you can read the highlights here in case you missed anything. The next week should, in theory, be much more active.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 30, 2016 -> 05:50 AM) Emanuel shouldn't even be called a Democrat. He simply cares about himself and retaining power, period. A lot like Weiner. And as Trump is to Republican, I assume?

White Sox sign Roberto Pena to MiLB deal
NorthSideSox72 replied to KMule2545's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 12:42 PM) https://twitter.com/ChrisCotillo/status/803287370598649856 The Sox have signed catcher Roberto Peña to a minor league deal, according to Chris Cotillo. Hopefully his defense is phenomenal because his numbers are awful. http://www.baseball-reference.com/register...mp;mobile=false FWIW, he's thrown out 44% of attempted base stealers in his minor league career. He looks to me like just org depth, someone to replace the likes or Jeremy Dowdy, Brett Hayes, etc. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 25, 2016 -> 02:26 PM) Burdi? Sure. I think Fulmer breaks camp with the Sox. Only if he's a reliever, and to me, you are torching potential value if you do that. I'd only do it if you are Going For It. If you are rebuilding, you protect him for a year.
