QUOTE (HeGone7 @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 12:51 PM) They know that the front office has badly damaged the franchise by not doing their job well. Consider the restrictions handed down from the big man upstairs… Consider Hahn being hamstrung, by his moves needing to cleared by Kenny Williams… Its like Rick Hahn is trying to be a professional GM of a big market MLB franchise. with an old 2001 Gateway computer with AOL dialup internet and an old Blackberry from 2002... Bottom line, if you really think about it.. JR is doing his job VERY well… keeping the franchise financially afloat..keeping the investors happy.. all while carrying bottom of the barrel attendance numbers and TV ratings.. and all while putting a mediocre product on the field….

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 05:20 PM) Lip I think there were some pretty good years between 1968-1980. 72-73-74 with Dick Allen and the Winnning Ugly of 77 were exciting years. People were charged up Not really. 1968-1971 were all losing seasons. 1970 was a horrific year with 106 losses. A switch in GM and Manager brought a 92 win season in 1972. The only other year you would consider "exciting" was 77'.. Four straight losing seasons 1968-1971 Four straight losing seasons. 1986--1989 In the process of the fourth straight losing season 2013 -2016 Prior to 1968, the last run of Sox losing seasons ended in 1950 If things continue as is in 2016, it will only be the 3rd time in 66 yrs the Sox have had 4 straight losing seasons. That's 3 generations of Sox fans. What's alarming is that GM and managerial changes were made subsequent to those funks. Yet, the status quo currently remains in Sox Land 16' That's why I believe fans deserve a break. To call fans out for being negative is absurd. This is a historic run of bad baseball

QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 03:54 PM) He's like your dad who still uses Internet Explorer and says it's great. That's awesome I think Kenny still uses one of those behemoth CRT monitors from 2005. JR still uses AOL dialup. What's the point of the extra expense of WI FI ? -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 30, 2016 -> 12:28 PM) This team is jack without Sale. We simply don't have the depth to absorb the blow without starting over. This team is jack WITH Sale A guy that goes out there every 4th day and pretty much allows 3-4 runs or less each outing. Yea that's awesome But there's an offense in place that's standing near the bottom of the AL in practically every category. So... Holding on to Sale as your postseason stopper is fools gold. At this stage of the game The Sox are committed to middle of the pack payroll, but don't have the depth to address two most pressing needs, offense and bullpen.. If the Sox aren't going to spend like the big boys, and don't have organizational depth...What can they bring to the table to compete with those that ARE spending?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 01:19 PM) Not nearly as smart as us message board posters. Not. Even. Close. I think most fan board posters readily admit they aren't qualified professionals.. just fans spouting an opinion On the other hand, you have the Sox Front Office.. and in the words of Bill Shakespeare: A fool thinks himself to be wise, but a wise man knows himself to be a fool . William Shakespeare

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 11:58 AM) Of course they are going to do it their way. Do you do everything everyone else's way? Yes of course. However when "our way" isn't working, most might consider a major overhaul of "our way"

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 01:29 PM) Of course the message he was responding to was one that was blaming the front office without any actual knowledge of what was going on, so that seems appropriate. I wasn't blaming anyone for anything. It's a waste of time responding to you. Even if I preclude my response by stating I'm not looking to be confrontational, you still feel the need to defend the organization to the death, then come after me. It's almost surreal Anyway, one more time. Then that's it No I don't know for sure what's going on. I don't claim to. I've had minor dealings with JR via charities, spoken to Kenny Williams at SoxFest, and have seen him around town here and there. I was friendly with a sportswriter who's since passed. Also, I have followed this organization for 35 yrs. Those are my credentials for your review, sir The decisions that are made that have to do with the future of the Sox, involve one individual who a) has a ticket for lifetime devotion and loyalty from the Chairman b) has a tremendous ego. c) won the lotto as the GM in 2005. d) practically drove the franchise into the dark ages, then gets promoted I've got a problem with that. You or others may not. Whatever Bottom line, that's my take on it, and I don't really give a damn whether you agree or not.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 10:04 AM) So true. We don't HAVE to deal Chris Sale. If teams aren't willing to back up the truck of their minor league system, there is no good reason to do so. My non confrontational, non argumentative response to that would be.. How do we know various trucks haven't been backed up already? See, I think this organization is determined to do it THEIR way… which is, stick to the road most frequently traveled… That is, as long as Kenny Williams has JR's ear..

QUOTE (soxfan85 @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 10:10 PM) Great point. If we sweep this series those knuckleheads start going after the Jay Bruce's, etc. of the league with the delusional belief that we can compete for a playoff spot. Still would be nice to win 3 of 4 though. Hopefully, even a win tomorrow won't start the delusional thought process. According to Kenny Williams, no one is sure in the organization if they are buyers or sellers, or a combination of. I guess they are waiting for the outcome of the Cubs series. Sweep = Buyers. 3 of 4 = Buyers. Split = combo of buyer/seller. Split Cub series & Win Minny series = Buyers -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 03:35 PM) By the way, if you don't like judgements, you probably should find something else to do than to post on a message board that is full of them. Quite literally every single post made on here has some level of assumptions based on what the posters have seen and heard, and none of us ever know the entire situation before posting, as none of us are employed by the Chicago White Sox. If you are that bother by opinions that aren't like your own, you probably should delete your account and find a safer place to read. I don't need any advice from you on whether or not I should or shouldn't be posting and/or reading other posts on sox talk, or any other board.. thanks…. I can handle an opinion from the average fan that really isn't based on anything… What I can't handle is your relentless defending of the organization irregardless of the situation.. or whether or not fan criticism is justified…We get you have a low opinion of the fan who choses to criticize the organization… Feel free to ease up on that … anytime...

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 01:50 PM) lol, there are an awful lot of assumptions here for someone who is talking about knowing the whole story. Nothing, and let me say it again, NOTHING, has been said that even remotely supports the idea that the Sox reversed course on this. Considering that Sale has thrown both Kenny Williams AND Robin Ventura under the bus at different points this year, you don't think he would have mentioned this pertinent fact while complaining about the rest of the incident? Not a chance. If you really need the full proof an account of all of this before you are allowed to have thoughts on the subject, it would make sense if you weren't adding ideas that have zero proof at all to the discussion. As far as zero proof.. I'll repeat .. you weren't there.. you have NO IDEA what happened…and are in NO position to cast judgement on any opinion as to what actually occurred... I never assumed any of my scenarios were true..and just because the notion that a reversal wasn't mentioned by Sale means squat… Its all media speak… All Sale wanted to get across from the statement was that Ventura wasn't in his corner… "Consider this".. means, keep an open mind before you rush to judgement…..a judgement that as usual, on your part, blindly defends the Sox organization...

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) This is where the focus should be. Not only did he cost us a start, but he destroyed our bullpen for the time being, which have seen ripple across the last two days of forcing the pen into a really bad situation and forcing guys to be unavailable to do their normal jobs. If Chris Sale doesn't get that you wear the promotional jersey on a promotional day, I'm not sure what else there really is to explain to the guy. This should be about the most obvious thing ever. If your boss tells you to wear something to work, you wear it. Period. You, me, or anyone else on this board was not there.. We don't know the whole story, so in turn, no one is qualified to judge…. So...Before people start playing judge, jury and executioner… consider that there could have been many, many issues that led up to this… Consider this… Sale's complaint was that the jersey affects his performance.. could it have been possible that it was agreed upon beforehand that if his start coincided with the promotion, that he would have't to wear the damn thing? or maybe wear a custom altered version of it? Could it have been possible that shortly before Chris was supposed to dress, there was reversal by management and they told him he to wear the damn throwback as is and STFU? Agreed. .. bad reaction on his part.. but I wouldn't discount terrible communication from both ends….

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 11:02 PM) If you can't control your anger, you are mentally weak. Where do you come up with some of this stuff? That's really not true at all. Anger management has nothing to do with intelligence or mental capacity or strength. Could be genetic, physical, cultural and social upbringing, PTSD. etc It's like saying someone with depression, chronic anxiety, fear or has a phobia is mentally weak Good Lord. Stick to baseball, man

You hold out hope that the organization has no choice but to make some major changes… but as far as this season goes, they're out of it and the expectation of post season isn't there, so the disappointment with the losses is somewhat tempered… I'll be damned if I'm gonna sit around for the next 1/3 of the season and wait for the next 7-8 game win streak… we've been chasing that fool's gold for the 4th year in a row….

White sox may be reconsidering their stance of being non sellers

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 10:49 AM) And many who have said this season is over are complaining Jacob Turner is starting tonight. That's what you get in a rebuild. Guys like Jacob Turner starting, for years. Don't you think. by taking advantage of a sellers market and leveraging viable assets, not to mention freeing up payroll, you would expect to not only get some decent return for a near ready SP, $$$ to develop prospects and also explore the int'l market, that the percentage is low to have a Jacob Turner - type as a mainstay in the rotation? -

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 10:33 AM) Good. I don't want a realistic shot for years. Stock up on first round picks for a few years, draft a good starter, develop Rodon/Fulmer and the starting prospects we get in all these trades, and we'll be fine. I'm more than fine to wait until 2019 or 2020 to be legitimate contenders. I can endure a few seasons of losing and development for the potential reward. It's a hell of a lot better than constant "going for it" seasons that end up with a team that can't even reach .500. You sorta forgot to factor in, JR is 80 yrs old.. -
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 02:25 PM) Now the question is, 30 years later at the ripe,, 'ol age of 80, can he/would he do it again? We shall see. The other question is.. who in their right mind would want to come here and deal with this mess? .. not to mention, deal with an 80 yr old owner who probably is not gonna be entirely open to a whole lot of sweeping changes?

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 06:17 PM) Dunt: According to the original poster Stone said JR needs to do "whatever it takes." Mark In all fairness to JR, Stoney didn't feel like JR absolutely needed to break the bank and spend like a drunken sailor to bring a winner home. Taking a hit on a bad $$$ deal was not something he said the Sox have the financial resources to weather

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 01:41 PM) If he really said Robin blew it sending Robertson out there, I have no respect for Steve Stone. During the game, he said Robertson should be strong, but might have a little problem with control. And most of these comments don't mesh with the others. I was the original poster on the other site, and what Stone said was that it would have helped Robertson shake off some rust if Robin would have gave him some garbage innings in the LA series. I heard what Stone said during the game and I didn't take it to mean he was contradicting himself at all Not sure what you mean by "these comments don't mesh with the others" I sense you're just nitpicking and finding fault because you're annoyed with his somewhat negative view of the current Sox situation I tried to relay to the best of my ability, what Stoney actually said. There was a lot there. The interview is available as a podcast on the Score site for all the skeptics to draw their own conclusions

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 07:53 AM) You know what would come after nine more wins in a row? 1) a Robin extension for 2017-2018 2) a Hahn extension for 2017-2018

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 02:20 PM) Isn't spending $46 million on a closer a big market move? I see your point, but even with DR's $11 M in 2016, the Sox are still middle of the pack payroll-wise.. The issue isn't payroll… Your GM has a public feud with your manager, the organization is embarrassed.. then said GM gets bumped upstairs, after nearly plunging the franchise into the dark ages.. creating a mess for his subordinate to fix… are the Sox going to rebuild? go for it? who's the real GM? Hahn? Kenny? Does JR call the shots? who makes the pitching moves? Ventura? Cooper? what about the "3 yr plan"? Who's really responsible for the on field decisions? why isn't anyone accountable for performance in the Sox FO? how does the pitching coach get away with calling out the fans over the media? Bottom line, it all adds up to small market attendance and RCN TV ratings
-
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 02:21 PM) They are not a big market franchise. They are really a medium market and the Cubs are a big market. It should be the other way around…. the franchise had an opportunity to grab the market in this town after 2005… the Sox have a potentially much larger geographic area in which to tap a fan base….City of Chicago, West burbs, SW burbs, South burbs, downstate to an extent. NW Indiana and SW Mich… The Sox direct competition in this town is a franchise whose claim to fame is a "lovable loser"… The organization has nothing to blame but itself….

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 01:41 PM) The White Sox are always stupid as long as the results aren't good! Here's a concept. I'll just throw this out there. Tell me what you think How about the organization start operating like a big market franchise, instead of a company softball team, and maybe all the second guessing be dramatically reduced?

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 12:13 PM) The Sox also don't get any revenue from other events at the stadium such as concerts. Teams that own the stadium generate a great deal of revenue from these activities. The ISFA gets a good chunk of revenue from non-baseball events, but a major concert hasn't been held there since 2003. The White Sox have a strict rider prohibiting events interfering with Sox home games.
