Game thread Sox(73-50) at Detroit(79-45)

Geez, we work them into hitters counts and can't capitalize. We need to improve our execution, and soon. -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 04:48 PM) There was one game a while back when Buerhle got clobbered early, then pitched 4 or 5 innings with about 40 pitches. You know Buerhle is in trouble when he has a real high pitch count, and I would say the same thing for Garland, and with his new style, Garcia. If you're not a guy who is going to get a lot of strikeouts, you can't show everyone 6 pitches. Exactly, and it's puzzling to me why Buehrle has been so un-Buehrle like this year. If he doesn't come right after the hitters he's in trouble - just like we've seen the past few months. -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 04:44 PM) I think that's one of the biggest problems with our pitchers. They don't attack anyone. They screw around and screw around, treat everyone like they are a combination of Ted Williams and Babe Ruth. I would like to see our pitchers be aggressive, throw inside, and try to minimize pitch counts. That's one thing we did very well last year. Especially Buehrle & Garland. -

Okay, that's not too bad. Hopefully Jose will find his groove and put up a string of zero's. It would be good for my nerves if we could get those 2 back this inning. -

Getting behind these hitters is not a good idea Jose. -
Can the Sox and Minny both go to the playoffs?

I think Detroit is in a definate tailspin... but my honest opinion is that we don't have the level of pitching required to make up the 5&1/2 games. We just drop too many games when Vazquez, Buehrle & Garcia pitch. If we somehow return to 2005 form (pitching wise) we can do it, but I think that is unlikely at this point. Detroit would have to collapse for us to overtake them and I don't think they will. I think we're capable of .600 baseball the rest of the way - but I don't think that's enough to pass the Tigers (If they finish 18-19 we have to play .666 the rest of the way to tie). -
I'm with you 100%. I don't get why people are so critical all the time about the Sox. Sure, we have issues - but it's like most posters haven't seen any other team play. Every team has problems, even Detroit & NY, but I'll take our team over any other in baseball. I talk with Yankee fans all the time, and the only teams that scare them are us and Minnesota (with Liriano). Sometimes I think other fans respect the Sox more than we do. This is a huge week in our season, let's hope it's a good one!

More speculation about PODS: he's the worst defensive player in MLB.

I was referring to the way he played the game. His intensity & desire - he is lacking in many areas (so-so average, poor obp, not much power) but he brings great intangibles - which could be an asset to this team. So to be more clear - I feel we need more desire & intensity, not AROW. But if I give you more to b**** about (as if you need it), then that's fine by me. -

This is disgusting. Absolute rock bottom. But it's just one game. Hopefully a display this poor will enbarrass the team and we'll realize we need to play hard & smart EVERY game, not just against the top teams. I think this team needs leadership right now - from Ozzie, Paulie, Thome, AJ or anyone. Someone needs to take charge. As much as I love Thome, we need a grinder like AROW at times like these (I still like the trade, I'm just saying we need the desire he brought everyday). -
BWAHAHAHAHAH
-
Pods, Iguchi and Thome have very poor stats against LH'ers this year.
-
Damn, and we have three easy outs due up in the 4th. Hopefully, one of them will prove me wrong and ignite a spark in the offense.
-
It'd be cool if the bottom 3 in teh order could have a monster game. One can hope anyway.
-
This is starting to get comical... in a really great way.
-
MLB Gameday must be broken. All they keep putting up for outs is '... stikes out swinging'.
-
I think this is a huge game... and period of our season. It would take a lot of pressure off Buehrle for tomorrow and put us in the driver's seat for another series win. If we keep winning every series we will make the playoffs. Beating the Tiger's ace will also do wonders for momentum within the division and hopefully boost our confidence even more. If we still have eyes on the division (we should) we must win this game. Hopefully, Jose will pitch a dominating complete game shut out!
-
It was a good fight nonetheless
-
Okay offense... give Jon the support he deserves. Put a crooked # up here.
-
Get this guy Jon.

We should consider moving Dye to LF next year imo.
