  1. Okay return, not terrible but not great. But what the hell was Detroit thinking? They must like Iglesias a heck of a lot more than I do, that looks like someone buying high to me. Either meaning of "buying high" may be applicable.
  2. I kinda like our pitching staff & think it is a staff that you can win with. Obviously, our offense is terrible and needs an overhaul but I kinda hope we keep much of the pitching staff together cause I don't think its impossible to quickly turn around the offense enough to compete over the next couple of years.
  3. Some rumors out there that the Bears will release Peppers. He had a good season from what I could tell (I'm a Giants fan, so you'd know better than I would) but he is 33 this month and owed a lot of money next year so who knows.
  4. I'm sure it was mentioned earlier, but I must have missed it. Contract total is $12 over the 3 years.
  5. The link seems to show him in 6th place - behind Rodney. Someone (from Texas) actually gave Rodney a 1st place vote...
  6. QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 11:20 PM) They actually wore white socks at one point. Back in the 70's I believe. It was not a good look. Maybe someone not as lazy as me can find a pic and post it. Not a good look???
  7. Kurt Suzuki acquired by Washington. Not having a great year but he should be an upgrade.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 01:50 AM) Reed's done a very good job as a rookie, so far. He definitely hasn't pitched poorly enough to have the job taken away from him. I would look at KW in the 6th-7th inning Jason Frasor role, basically reinforce or replace Nathan Jones and push him further down in the pecking order. Darren Oliver is supposedly someone the Jays would look at moving. He's been tremendous the past 5 or 6 years and is having a great season. 8.8 K/9 2.3BB/9, ERA under 3 each of the past 5 years- 1.30 this year. Effective against both RHB and LHB's. Not sure about value, but he's a mid to late innings guy, can't imagine he'd command a top prospect or anything.
  9. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 09:59 AM) Are De Aza and Lillibridge everyday players and can Lillibridge play SS or even 3B? If it were me, I'd platoon them next year. De Aza vs RHP (.910 OPS) and Lillibridge vs LHP (.896 OPS). Small sample size, but last year was similar split for Lilli and De Aza has been pretty consistently better vs RHP's in his career. If they show they can handle full time duty after that, all the better. Lilli can still float around as needed as well.
  10. Hands earlier in the season - down by his hips. Never made much sense to me - I was always taught to keep them high.
  11. If he learns to take a walk more often, he'll be a solid player. He'll never have a huge OBP but I think he can get it up to respectable numbers. Power should improve a bit as well based on what he did in the minors. I'm actually fine with his season so far, I never expected him to contribute much at the plate but over the past few weeks he's starting to look more confident up there. I think we'll see a bit of a spike in his production over the last month & a half.
  12. QUOTE (onedude @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 08:11 PM) at the beginning of the year, didn't he have his hands down by his hip? That's how I remember it as well. His hands are definitely higher. His whole swing also seems 'quieter', as in less unnecessary movement.
  13. I'm always in. I don't think we're winning the central but I'm in like I always am for the 162+ games. It's the curse of being a fan I guess.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 05:53 AM) At this point, regardless of what Peavy does, there is a group of posters who are going to dump on him for his contract and injuries. They've got a point, he is always hurt, so no matter what he says, it's bad because he's always hurt. I'll never understand fans hating a player over either contract size or injuries. It's not like Peavy gives a poor effort, or is a bad teammate, or doesn't want to help the team win. It's unfortunate he's often injured, but I don't see that as a reason to trash him for checking his ego and offering to do whatever might help the team win.
  15. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 10:33 AM) False. 2011 Alexei has a 8.7 BB%, Rios has 6.3%, this year. So pretty much 2.4% difference, Kind of off from 40%. Alexei is pretty much inline with his 09' BB% while Rios is around his career norm. But ya I get what you mean that Alexei is better at getting a BB. But wouldn't you rather have Alexei than Rios with runners on hitting infront of or behind our sluggers. Ahhh, no. Your stats show that Alexei's BB per at bat % is 2% higher than Rios'. This year Alexei has drawn about 38% more walks than Rios.
  16. If we had a better track record developing players like this I would be pretty happy with the pick. The tools are there.
  17. C'mon guys, bringing up Viciedo might mean less playing time for Pierre. Can't have that... This was the only choice really.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 15, 2011 -> 04:51 AM) 6 man rotation already coming under fire from former big league pitcher Mike Marshall... http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...,6546565.column He's the guy that preaches that ridiculous pitching style, no? He says that the normal pitching style will cause injuries no matter how often you pitch but logically you have to assume the odds increase the more you pitch. Now, that's not to say I totally disagree with him. I think pitchers should have good mechanics and they should throw more, but I actually love the idea of a 6 man rotation. I think pitchers should just throw more on the off days where they can manage the pitching (i.e. easier on the arm, less curveballs, etc) but build strength and durability. Then manage the training to ensure peak performances for game days, similar to how runners set up their training runs to ensure peak performance for their races.
  19. QUOTE (PeavyTime @ May 12, 2011 -> 06:03 AM) Gotta DFA Pierre, this is the key. I get that he works hard, but I would work hard if they put me on the roster too. Quentin in LF, Viciedo in RF. Leave Morel at 3rd base and let him do his thing. I don't care who leads off, cause it doesn't matter. This. Just get rid of Pierre. DFA him and bring in Viciedo. At least if DV struggles at the plate a bit you know the upside is there. We don't have an ideal leadoff man but who cares, we're a better team with Pierre out of the lineup.
  20. I'm not one to complain to much about coaches, but I have found it frustrating seeing Swisher leave the team, make subtle changes to his approach at the plate (which he credits Kevin Long for) and then see significant improvement. Sure, he's off to a tough start this year, but he put up back to back good years in NY after leaving Chicago. Maybe he should have had the same result here with a better hitting coach. Could be coincidence, but we seem to have players stay in slumps longer than other teams.
  21. Red Sox playing with fire keeping Lackey in, imo
