i honestly don't feel that buehrle's best years are ahead of him, and whoever signs him is going to end up paying over a million dollars per win. sure he's a good face for the organization, but he's not even the best starter on our staff. $15m/year is better spent on filling some of our MANY glaring holes.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 11:09 PM) Ozzie had a lot to do with who's on this roster also though. He's the one who needs his "speed" guy at the top of the order. He's the one who didn't want to give Anderson an extended shot this year. He's the one that never gave Gload the chance to see what he could do as a leadoff hitter. In no way am I blaming Ozzie for how bad this talent level is....but he isn't exactly out of the loop on these decisions. give ross gload a chance to leadoff? that's brilliant....

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 04:24 PM) His fastball was hitting 93 alright but it a dead body has more movement than it does. If you're going to throw it like that you need to be upper 90's and even then it's not always guaranteed it wont be hit. A 93 MPH fastball over the plate with no movement is just screaming HIT ME HIT ME!!! this isn't a new development; his fastball never had a lot of movement

Steve Alford gets one year extension
BabyJesus69 replied to Heads22's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
he's screwed up with good recruits before, but it's really at the point right now that it's going to do a lot more damage than good to get rid of him. -
that was a bit overblown...around 200 of them showed up. i'll give them credit though, it must have taken a lot of work to get all the seats together.

there's no doubt that the atmosphere at hilton is better than the atmosphere at jack trice, but a loud hilton doesn't compare to carver when it gets loud

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 04:34 PM) Ask coaches in the country where they'd rather not play between the two schools. Football teams will say Kinnick and basketball teams will say Hilton, and it's not even close. something tells me that the 7 home losses you had last year would indicate something other than that

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 02:44 PM) There's been two years since 1998 when attendace at ISU, per game, has not increased. I think they plan on continuing the upward trend. http://www.kenn.com/sports/football/ncaa/ An Iowa fan also has no room to talk on attendance at basketball games. It took a Big 10 tournament championship team to edge an Iowa State team that did not qualify for a postseason tourney in attendance this year. i'd like for you to find a year that iowa state has outdrawn iowa on a per game average for basketball
-
lol, you can't even fill jack trice now, what's the need for some kind of expansion? iirc, isu offered discount tickets for the colorado game last year (with the b12 north title on the line) and still couldn't sell the place out. every 2 years, that place would be full when nebraska and iowa brings its fanbases. other than to appease those 2 fanbases, that expansion is pointless. also, iirc isu doesn't exactly fill hilton on a regular basis.

how far has hockey fallen?

just because hockey's been dead in chicago for the last 10 years doesn't mean that hockey isn't still one of the 4 most popular sports in america -

Iowa State to the Big Ten? Utah to the Big XII?
BabyJesus69 replied to Heads22's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 04:51 PM) ND's undergraduate and graduate program are very prestigious. Under this ranking, ND is 18 over all. It is a very prestigious undergrad, and has a top of the line graduate program. Not to mention it has the best potential football program of any of the candidates (the most important sport in Big 10 athletics) and a good basketball program. ND would be the favorite giving the Big Ten another school academically on par with the top programs. I think their preference would be 1) Notre Dame, 2) Syracuse (yes not geographically similar, but in previous years there have been talks about Syracuse moving to the Big 10), 3) Pitt. i'm pretty sure that ND's graduate programs were the sticking points last time adding ND to the b10 came around, and ND wasn't up to par. If the b10 ever chooses to expand, which i doubt it would, Syracuse, Rutgers, and Mizzou are the most likely candidates. Although Pitt is a fine school that would bring a lot academically to the conference, it doesn't add a market that the b10 doesn't already own. With Penn State, the b10 already has the pittsburgh market. With the ACC expanding north, it makes a lot more sense to bring in syracuse or rutgers in order to get more tv sets tuned into b10 games. -
Iowa State to the Big Ten? Utah to the Big XII?
BabyJesus69 replied to Heads22's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
iowa state adds nothing athletically to the big 10. more importantly, iowa state would add nothing academically to the conference. mizzou would at least bring in the st. louis market -
is it safe to say that the move to oln, even though it was for more money than espn had offered, was a really stupid move? the nhl deserves every bit of lost revenue it faces for having the playoffs on oln.

i think that it's important to note that alex thompson and his parents are the same people that got his high school coach fired for 'verbal abuse.' after the coach took the school district to court, he was given his job back. -
