It happened to the Yankees with YES, it happened to the Dodgers, and it happened in Houston where they had so few carriage agreements they managed a 0.0 rating at one point. This is how nine figure corporations negotiate with other billionaires. They go as they think they can go to win a negotiation for a few more points of profit margin. None of this should be surprising, and it sure isn't unusual.

I will say this much. Obviously we have no idea what is going on because no one tells Sox fans anything, and there are only scattered reports of rumors, but if we are actually interviewing candidates, this is at least a step in the right direction to run a baseball team like a late 20th century entity. We may still end up with a disaster of a manager, but even progress is progress. At least it is a sliver of a chance vs zero chance at all.

I mean yeah, it's a thought, but Rodon never wanted an extension here as a Boras guy. He wanted to hit free agency and strike it rich, which is exactly what he did. Unless we were willing to out bid the market, he wasn't going to extend here any longer than he had to. He was never going to be "easily retained". He was always going to the highest bidder which was never going to be the Sox, and honestly when a guy has that injury history, I can't blame them for that one.
