  1. Seat snobs IN all seriousness, I can't believe they got that much response.
  2. New York Yankees center fielder Bernie Williams has torn cartilage in his left knee and will likely need surgery that might keep him out of lineup for four-to-six weeks. "Obviously, it is very disappointing," Williams said. "If there's any positive about this, it's that it's May. There's still the second half of the season to help the club." Williams has been bothered by a sore knee this month and had an MRI on Thursday to determine the cause of the pain. It revealed a sprain and tear of the medial meniscus. Team physician Dr. Stuart Hershon has recommended that Williams undergo arthroscopic surgery. Williams will get a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., before making his final decision. "If there's discomfort and pain, that means something is wrong," he said. "Probably the best way about it is to have the surgery." The Yankees will place Williams on the 15-day disabled list and recall outfielder Juan Rivera from Triple-A Columbus to take his spot. Rivera will likely play left field and Hideki Matsui will shift to center. Rivera hit .265 with one homer and six RBI in 83 at-bats in the majors last season. He also played all four games in the division series against Anaheim, going 3-for-12 with three RBI. Rivera is expected to join the team Friday. "He'll probably see some significant time early," general manager Brian Cashman said. "He came up last year and did a nice job. It's not a concern of what he can do." Williams is a five-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove winner and has played a key role on the team's four World Series championships and five AL pennants in the past seven years. He got off to a great start this season, batting .384 with six homers and 23 RBI in the first 22 games. But he has hit only one homer and driven in eight runs since then and has gone hitless in his last 21 at-bats. "It was not letting me play the way I wanted to play," he said. "That was most important. I want to make a contribution to winning. I wasn't hitting, I wasn't doing other things. I wasn't doing anyone any good." He is the second key hitter the Yankees have lost to an injury in the past week. Nick Johnson was placed on the 15-day disabled list last Saturday with a stress fracture in his right hand and also is expected to miss four-to-six weeks. All-Star shortstop Derek Jeter missed six weeks earlier this season with a dislocated left shoulder and closer Mariano Rivera missed the first month with a strained right groin. Despite the injuries, the Yankees began the day with a one-game lead over Boston in the AL East. "Obviously, we were able to hold the fort down during Jeter's absence," Cashman said. "Hopefully, we'll be able to do the same without Bernie." Cashman said he didn't anticipate looking outside the organization for help because Williams will be back for the second half of the season.

  4. I'll give you Garland but i dont want to give up on Rauch yet. i say Garland/Lee(or harris lol). then we could put Beltran in CF and Borchard in LF (i would prefer RF but maggs is there). The Royals are asking for prospects at CF, 3B and 2B, we aren't going to get Beltran for any crappy guys. We are talking about a farm system buster kind of guy here.
  5. Who on the Sox is better in CF?
  6. Al Gore invented it, whatelse is there to know?
  7. Damn the Bulls ended up with the 7th pick. I was hoping that they would sneak in and be able to snag Carmelo Anthony.
  8. I work in futures. I have seen plenty of margin calls lately for people who were short yen, euro, etc...
  9. But look at what he did last season Vince. If I recall he really hit the ball last year. Also, despite a very low avg he has a .325 obp which tells you if he hits .260 he'd have a .340-.350 obp from a bottom of the lineup hitter. He's a great bunter and has unbelievable range in center. He has more range then the two of our centerfielders combined. I with you Jas, if he can bunt, hit behind runners, and play a good CF defense, he is a HUGE improvement in CF. But I also would like to know why he is being waived. That doesn't make sense.

Try to send Rick White back to St Louis for anything and call up Matt Ginter.
  11. Or bust a nut jumping onto Franks bandwagon. Such a hypocrate. With the way he waivers on allies he will be a perfect enforcer of US policy abroad, friends today, enemies tommorrow!
  12. You do know who has the best chance as it stands now of being our second rep on the all-star team right? D'Angelo Jimenez. Look at his #'s vs the rest of the AL 2B's.
  13. What has been Damaso's problem this year pitching to lefties? Look at his splits vs Lefties .280 BA, .400 OBP, .320 SLG, .720 OPS with 5BB in 25 AB's against vs Righties .091 BA, .167 OBP, ..182 SLG, .348 OPS with 3BB in 33 AB's against
  14. married, pretty much the samething.
  15. You wanna place another beer wager if it ends up being the Ducks and Sens? Remember you owe me one already...
  16. I would just like to claim credit for putting this out there, thus guarenteeing a come-from-behind victory
  17. Who knows if it is true or not. But all he needs to get off is reasonable doubt, and if he has got anykind of an attorney, it seems like he could be well on his way.
  18. If you KNOW you are going to go out of the country, I would do a currency exchange ASAP. The Bush admin has all but said they are going to let the dollar devalue against the rest of the worlds currencies. In other words the dollar is going to buy a lot less.
  19. Give me a break. They also only pitch once every five days. You sound like an ambulance chaser trying to find a reason to sue when you knick pick like that.

  22. and on top of it all makes racist statements. If a white reporter had said the samethings after he was fired, it would be headlines calling him an antisemite.
  23. Yeah if we had an average defensive CF Mark gives up like 2 runs. Was it Maggs in CF or Rios? Rios. Kept getting bad reads and breaks on balls, and doesn't have the speed to make up for it. A little off topic but what position does Ruddy Yan play? He is listed as a 2B as far as I can find. He is hitting .362 with 29 steals so far this season at Winston Salem. http://www.geocities.com/wsox_minors/
