QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 10:48 AM) By the way, no way the Red Sox are number one. They needed a miracle just to get to the World Series. Take anyone of Schilling, Pedro, Manny, and Ortiz off that team and they lose at least 5 games in the standings, or a postseason series. In terms of overall teams, I didn't even consider them. If it were 4 on 4 with those guys I mentioned, they'd win. Just to defend my boys for a minute. . . yeah, they needed a miracle to get to the world series. They're also the only team in baseball history to pull off such a miracle. Sure, if you take Pedro, Manny, Schilling, Ortiz, Damon, Foulke, Bellhorn (3 postseason HRs in 3 consecutive games), Roberts, or ANY of those guys of the team, they might not win. Where would you guys have been this year without Jenks? Or Crede? Or Dye? Or Buehrle? You're missing the point. The point is that those guys WERE on that team, and the 2004 Red Sox pulled of a feat that no other team in baseball has ever been able to accomplish. The 2004 Boston Red Sox won 98 games during the regular season--more than any other American League team but the Yankees. They swept the Angels. They came back from 0-3 against the Yankees. They swept the Cardinals. Their starting pitching was excellent. Their bullpen was very good. Their hitting was the best in baseball. Were they the best world series winning team of the past 20 years? Maybe not. But I wouldn't be so quick to sell them short. -
The SoSH thread: http://sonsofsamhorn.net/index.php?showtopic=1410 And my congrats (in case you can't see SoSH) http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=41928

Good morning, White Sox fans. How does it feel? :-) Congratulations again on an outstanding playoff run. Like I said in the first post of this thread. . . we got ours, it was time for you all to get yours. Damn, I'm jealous of you right now, because I know just how estatic you feel. Enjoy it! You all are the 2005 World Champions, and no one can ever take that away from you.

Feels pretty darn sweet, doesn't it? ;-) Congratulations, White Sox fans. Enjoy it.

Oops.

There is a precedent for forcing them to leave the roof open, but it's still a stupid decision. If they want the roof closed, let them have it closed. It's their ballpark, and they have the right to set it up how they wish. That's why it's called "home field advantage". The way you guys have been playing, it's not like it's going to slow you down much anyway.
-
You guys are just unbelieveable right now.

QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Oct 23, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) Hi there, Thanks for the warm sentiments. Maybe you can answer a question for me. Assuming you're a member of the SoSH website, can you tell me why after I registered on that site a month or so ago, they would never let me post anything? I could read everything, but couldn't add any posts anywhere. It pisses me off, cause I still can't post there, and the admins won't return any of my questions. Wha' happened? SoSH requires membership to post. When you registered, you registered for a lurker account--you have to be granted permission by the people who run the site to post. You have to submit an application--they really try to keep the signal to noise ratio down over there, and after Curt Schilling started posting there when he came to the Red Sox, the site got ridiculously bombarded with applications. I think there's still a waiting list of around 10,000 people waiting to be accepted to post. It isn't a perfect system, as evidenced by yoru experience--it would be nice to have a few White Sox fans over there now to discuss the series. But if the site were completely open, it would be a gigantic mess.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 23, 2005 -> 10:29 AM) Pics? Oh, man. You guys are no better than the boys on SoSH. . .
-
:-D Yes, indeed, I am a woman. No offense taken, though.

Somebody want to explain to me why Marte's warming up? You all have a bullpen that hasn't pitched in a week, and Marte was the only remotely hittable pitcher in our series versus you guys. . . he's the only semi-sucky pitcher on the roster, so why is he up in a one run game?
-
Last year, we got ours. This year, you get yours. I like the Astros. Their fans have been through a lot of pain, they have a lot of good players for whom this may be their only chance to win a world series. But it has been too long since the South Side of Chicago has seen a world series championship. I'm pulling for you. Best of luck. This is YOUR time. Enjoy it, White Sox fans.

So, let me get this straight. You guys can't believe it? Because I'm not quite sure what you're saying. ;-)
-
You guys are so cute when you win. ;-) Congrats on the pennant. Represent the American League well in the world series!

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 09:36 AM) Maybe, but right now. if we win it all, we could go 0-162 next year. I want us to get those 8 more wins this October so bad. Believe me, as a fan of the other-colored Sox, I know exactly how bad you want those wins. And losing this year felt about 1/50 as bad as losing in 2003--or any other year--did. But even if you do win the world series this year, you'll come back, and the highs will still be high, the lows will still be low. It'll be mellowed a bit, but that's just the nature of being a fan.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 06:18 AM) Are ya HAWT??? And FWIW I agree, you've been very cool here Jamie - you're more than welcome to hang around and post your opinions! Thanks. You guys are cool with me too--my mom's family is from the South Side (although I'm a Bostonian). Still pissed that you guys beat us, though (believe me, if you guys win it all, you will find that the grace period is much shorter than you may think.)

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 11:26 PM) Yep, if it wasn't for Boras(who he'll prolly hire) I think he would fit in with the latin clubhouse and he'd help keep everyone at ease. I don't think Manny's personality would be any problem really. I mean Ozzie would tell him like it is and Manny knows by now what type of team we are. Boras would be a huge problem however. Oh yeah, don't hate on redsoxjamie. He isn't so bad. He's like benchwarmerjim. For the record, I'm not a he, I'm a she. And the "hate" here is nothing compared to some of the vitriol spewed on SoSH.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 12:01 PM) Haha. Boston would get so f***ed on that swap, it would be hilarious. For the record, if that trade happened, I would burn down the Sox front office.
-
QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 09:09 AM) Wouldn't the Red Sox want pitching in that type of trade instead of another bat? And theoretically, why would two teams swap very effective run producers. Isn't that just running in place. Well, the idea would be that we would trade Manny, one of the best hitters in baseball, for somebody who is not quite as good a hitter but also not quite as expensive. We would then use the saved money to make up the production elsewhere. The problem is not that you guys don't have somebody of Manny's caliber--very few teams do. The problem is that you guys don't have anybody who even comes close and who would be a good fit in a trade like that.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 09:12 AM) Dude, that pitching was too old to stay effective and healthy this year. But, what the hell, roll the dice with them again in '06. They're all under contract for next year. We don't really have a choice. Fortunately, having the best offense in baseball can cover up a lot of that, which is why I think they ought to keep Manny. Regardless of who they trade him for, they're going to be losing offensive production.
-
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 09:00 AM) Wouldn't Boston consider trading him for some great pitching? Does it necessarily have to be for another amazing hitter? Not that I want him on my team but just asking. Probably not. You guys are good because you have a bunch of really good pitching, not because you have any one great pitcher. Buehrle, Garland, Contreras, and Garcia together make up a hell of a rotation, but individually, none of them is worth trading Manny Ramirez for. Also, the Red Sox already have 5 starters signed for next year (Schilling, Wakefield, Clement, Arroyo, and Wells are all under contract for next year), plus Jonathan Papelbon, who deserves to be in the starting rotation next year. So if they're in the market for a starting pitcher, they're going to have to find a way to get rid of somebody they already have.
-
Let me chime in on this as a Red Sox fan, if I may. . . The main problem with Manny to the White Sox is not his attitude. Believe me, with 45 HR and 144 RBI's, you get used to it. He's a pain in the butt, for sure, but he is one of the most productive, if not the most productive, hitter in the game. The problem is that you guys don't have anything that the Red Sox are going to trade Manny for. If the Red Sox are going to trade Manny, they're going to want somebody who can at least come close to matching his offensive production, and you guys don't have that. The Red Sox have the 2nd highest payroll in baseball--they don't need to dump Manny's salary. (Unlike the Rangers trading A-Rod--they WERE being limited by A-Rod's salary, and even they demanded Alfonso Soriano, who is far from "nothing".) Regardless of how badly they want to trade Manny, fans in Boston are going to be PISSED--myself included--and they're going to have to have something to show for it. You guys just aren't a good "match" for this trade. Just my opinion.

I'm a SoSHer, and I just wanted to come over and say congrats. It hurts like hell right now, but you guys outplayed us on every level. Congrats on a great team, best of luck in the ALCS. We'll see you next year.
