I'm ok with it RayRay, if we all agreed here what would be the point?

Except he's a currently a below average defensive SS and will be playing 2B for about 80% of this contract. Sure, he fills an immediate need for the Phils and makes them legit WS contenders and a video game lineup, which will be fun. I just sense pain in years 4-10 of that deal.
-
I legit spend every free night I have simming through seasons on OOTP Baseball (highly recommend for all you casual MLB fans out there).
-
Missed you during the breaking news of Jose's deal Ron, I cracked a nice bottle of bourbon that night to celebrate.
-
Now laughing out loud at being called a casual, pretty obsessed with the sport.
-
Trea, while fun to watch, chases way too many pitches and has particularly bad plate discipline. Speed plays a huge part of his success, which tends to wane past 30. Will he continue to hit so well on bad pitches? I doubt it, hence my laughter for this absurd contract. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/trea-turner-607208?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb

I just laughed out loud for a good 10 seconds, that is the worst contract in baseball history.

kids got alligator's blood...

For sure, if I'm extending that deal to Carlos I want an opt out after year 2-3, and the final 2 years to be team options, but with the insane numbers these old guys are getting, I bet some GM justifies it by 'Los being the best under 30 arm on the market and giving him something close to that. I would think Robbie Ray's deal last year and tacking on a bit for inflation would be the starting point for his negotiations.

A broken 35 year old DeGrom just got 5-$185M, 29 year old Carlos has every right to ask for that deal and someone will likely pay it.

All that young, multi-year controllable SP talent is just burning a hole in their pocket apparently. -

Yes!!! Please trade this budding Sox killer out of the division. Love watching him hit, just wish it wasn't for the Twins. -
Adam spent a lot of time drinking at Houndstooth and getting mixed up with the Peavy, Ryan Dempster and his now ex-wife's party crew and all the nurses they passed back and forth, and Brent Morel, who was the team's weed dealer at the time. Adam didn't exactly put forth a full effort while playing here.

First I've seen of it, with all the trade discussion from Hahn and Gio becoming a player rep, def seems like a fair amount of smoke around moving him.
-
This, get a stud defender/framer/game caller and spend the resources elsewhere.
-
Feels like the only upside in trading him now is if his arm falls off, I'd rather wait and hope he returns to form, then trade him at the TDL if they're out of it, or extend the QO in the off-season if they're good enough to make a run this year.
-
I feel like Rick loves wasting resources at BP and catcher, so I now fully expect this to happen and I'm sick to my stomach.

glad I'm not alone in this thought

Yeah, when you said that I was a little shocked to see CF on the list, went back and checked the Baseball Reference history, realized I don't know a whole lot about the 60's-70's White Sox.
-
1B has certainly been the most stable position since I've been around, I was born the night the O's spanked us 11-1 in the '83 ALCS.
-
Is it really that simple? They both have realistic WS aspirations and holes at 1B, he makes way more sense for them than he does for the White Sox.
-
Have you entirely forgotten about the debacle of the 2016 Chicago White Sox? I'm not blaming one grown man, simply asking the question of where is the substance behind the claim of leadership? If you think leading by example is the BEST that a leader can do, then I can see where you're coming from, I just don't agree that setting the example is the ultimate form of leadership.
-
Anytime anybody brings up Jose's supposedly excellent leadership abilities, I think of the Brad Pitt "Moneyball" line "if he's such a good hitter, then why don't he hit good?" If Jose is such a great clubhouse guy, why has he been around for a bunch of the most dysfunctional clubhouses in recent MLB memory? If he's such a great mentor, why is this team filled with the laziest young Latinos in the game? Today is a good day, one I've been looking forward to for a long, long time.

I've yet to see one of these off-season plans that does not look like a 3rd place team in the division. I'm depressed for next season already.
