Stuck in the office today, how'd Seby look behind the plate?
-
Glad it happened now, Sox need to seriously think about bringing Rodon back as Giolito will no longer command the deal he was in line to get. Roll the dice with Gio thru his arb years as they'll likely be much cheaper now and see if he can adjust to no longer cheating. By then we'll know what Cease's true ceiling is and if he's the better long term investment than Gio.

If Yaz is out long term the Sox should acquire the best defensive catcher they can, and make the deal for Gallo. You can't really replace Yaz outside of a handful of C's in the league that franchises aren't letting go, but you can come extremely close to replacing his offensive production with a very similar stat line that also fills your RF hole.

Burger Called Up, Eaton Activated, Burdi/Yermin Optioned
JoeCredeYes replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I feel like Yermin has a bad case of the "caught in betweens" as Hawk would describe. Hope he can regain the timing with more consistent ABs. -

GT 7/1 Twins @ White Sox 1:10 PM CDT

WTF was he doing throwing an 0-2 fastball to a guy that couldn't hit a LH breaking ball with a fucking oar. -
Giolito has thoughts about Donaldsons comments
JoeCredeYes replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah totally agree. I mean frankly as a fan this is kinda fun as I've despised the Twins since like 1999 and would gladly like some more fodder to feed my irrational hatred for Minnesota Twins colored laundry. Now is the time to just shut up and beat their asses on the field. -
Giolito has thoughts about Donaldsons comments

Yeah, having Daddy fight your battles on Twitter is a pretty pathetic look. Lucas should keep his mouth shut and direct his focus on commanding a 3rd pitch. -
Not the first time you've said this...explain to me how a 23 year old guy with 55 MILB games under his belt that is currently mashing LHP, in the process of learning 2 new positions and being exposed to/learning the best pitchers on the planet, and more importantly those in the League he will eventually and currently compete against on a daily basis has the ability to turn off his development switch. Like wtf does that even mean? You should say what you really mean, he hasn't shown incremental month over month growth against RHP that you find to be satisfactory enough to demand a lineup slot on a team that currently sends Yermin Mercedes to the dish in the 5 hole on a nightly basis. Get over it, Andrew stays.

Sox need healthy, professional hitters in their lineup ASAP. Everybody is slumping/hurt right now except for Grandal, who doesn't have the ability to carry a team offensively. The staff has been great, but who knows how that changes after today's enforcement update. I think Escobar makes tons of sense as long as he's healthy and cheap. You've got a pretty favorable schedule to end the first half here, use it to get healthy and get these guys "right" and figure out if that's enough to make a deep playoff run. If not, you still have a few weeks to add more pieces before July 31st.

Yerminator campaigning for HR Derby opportunity
JoeCredeYes replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Don't know how you can keep trotting him out there, especially against righties, and especially batting behind Abreu. At least get Lamb in there against RHP at this point and/or let's see what Burger can do in the bigs and send Yermin down to try to get right. -
Have we all moved on from Joey Gallo? I know he HITS lefties better, but he still walks a ton against RHP with pop and is a + corner OF with CF ability in a pinch. I'd much prefer him over Schwarber, he'd likely cost more, but how much more? My dream scenario is Escobar/Frazier (Fraz going to cost more, fine with Escobar) AND Gallo. I'm thinking the below is rock solid and an embarrassment of riches should Eloy and Luis come back this year. This assumes an Eaton DFA or move to bench role and the inevitable removal of the entirely worthless ballplayer Yermin Mercedes from the organization (Yeah I said it). Escobar replaces Mendick Gallo replaces Yermin vs RHP 1. Anderson - SS 2. Lamb - DH/RF 3. Moncada - 3B 4. MVPito - 1B 5. Gallo - RF/DH 6. Grandal - C 7. Vaughn - LF 8. Escobar - 2B 9. Billy Boy/Leury - CF vs LHP 1. Anderson - SS 2. Escobar - 2B 3. Moncada - 3B 4. MVPito - 1B 5. Vaughn - LF 6. Grandal - C 7. Gallo - RF 8. Engel - CF 9. Leury/Lamb/Billy - DH

This. Inexcusable to have Marshall in vs a righty in that spot.
-
It'd be nice if Jose didn't have Yermin Mercedes batting behind him. Let's go ahead and slot Grandal in the #5 slot regularly please.
-
These look like some off brand knockoff junk you would find at Kohl's, hard pass.
-
I've been here just as long as you, Yermin hasn't had competitive ABs in a month. Can he bounce back and adjust to the adjustments made against him? Possibly, his track record doesn't suggest it is likely.
-
Agreed, I think the biggest issue is minor injuries seem to affect his production more than one would like. I honestly hold my breath every time he has to leg out a grounder because it seems like every time he does he's tender and gimpy for long stretches. Hopefully it is just recency bias with COVID last season, he has looked MUCH looser/smoother/less restricted to my untrained eye in ST this year. Hope it holds up cause dude can mash.

Sox acquire Lance Lynn for Dane Dunning and Avery Weems
JoeCredeYes replied to KrankinSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Anybody that is worried about losing Dunning is effing insane. 5 of his 8 starts last year were complete trash and mostly against pretty terrible hitting teams, he would absolutely be exposed over 162 games against a standard schedule. He never once gave me any once of confidence that he can command his less than elite stuff and his BB/9 rate is abysmal. He's not THAT young, these are the types of dudes you get rid of for bonafide studs like Lance Lynn. We were 1 starter away from potentially winning the WS last year and we're now that much closer to actualizing it. Lets go win this damn thing! -
Joc Pederson: How long will he be a future White Sox?
JoeCredeYes replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The word "Sox" is plural, just say Sock or work around it. Seriously though. If you disagree, insert the north side team in the title of this article and see how ya like it. -
Haha, when I got home my Dad was like "c'mon man, he went to Rita!!!" Haha I shoulda known!

Rest In Peace Farmio, I will always have a special place in my heart for Ed. I spent a lot of time delivering pizzas growing up in Tinley Park, listened to Sox games in the car as much as I could. My favorite Farmer call from that era was when Bob Howry beaned Torii Hunter, apparently Hunter was giving Howry the stare down, Farmer said something to the effect of "yeah, go on out there Torii, you'll have one less "I" in your name and in your head!" Right around that time I was able to meet Ed, a family friend happened to be a chef in the clubhouse restaurant, once a year he would get us a free skybox. The last year he worked there he took me down the hall and into to the broadcast booth to meet Ed during an inning, my 17 year old mind was blown. Ed popped up, shook my hand all while Rooney handled the game, asked me where I went to school, I told him Providence Catholic, his reply "ahhhh the Augustians!" At the time I didn't know he went to St Rita, so I was taken aback by his knowledge of Catholic orders. Longest fingers of any man I've shaken hands with, must have come in handy for wrapping up those curve balls! Ed wasn't everybody's cup of tea, but you can't deny the passion Ed had for White Sox Baseball and the love he brought to that park every day. I feel like there's not many of these guys left, every time we lose one it is a sad day. Thanks for the memories Ed, your passion for baseball rubbed off on this Sox fan and you got me through many a long shift!

I agree with everything you just said whole heartedly as do all of my real Sox fan friends and family I've spoken with. I really hope ownership takes notice.

Long time lurker, rare poster here. This is why I don't even believe the Sox offered anywhere close to $250M. You have to consider State Tax rates in this deal, it's too big not to, unless Manny truly only cared about the long term guarantee/weather/whatever. My thoughts in this are due to the potential earnings over the first 8 years. AAV of $30Mper (Pads) and $31.25Mper (Sox), CA state tax rate of 13.3% for earners over $1M, IL flat state tax of 4.95%, this equates to Manny saving $29,545,000 more over the course of 8 years if he signed with the Sox. There's some Federal Tax implications as well for no longer being able to deduct state taxes on your federal, but I'm too lazy and stupid to figure all those out. The whole thing just doesn't make a lick of sense dollars wise. Please feel free to poke any and all errors made in this statement btw if there's any CPAs out there.
