  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 8, 2012 -> 05:55 PM) Hmm, interesting. I guess that means the bump is pretty meaningless Honestly, its too soon to tell. But a number of pollsters have become interested in being part of the story, so they talk about the process. PPP said that they saw amazing numbers on Thursday and Friday for Romney, and numbers that were around pre-debate levels by Saturday and Sunday. It could just be that Dems were too busy licking their wounds to talk until the weekend. The Pew poll crosstabs seem to be pretty lopsided, and a huge percentage was from the South. Coupled with a likely voter screen that favors Republicans (because they are a more reliable turnout), you're getting a big bounce for Romney. It's really unlikely that the fundamentals of this race have shifted after 90 minutes where two candidates said almost nothing you'd remember a week later. (Outside of firing Big Bird)
  2. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 8, 2012 -> 03:11 PM) When was your latest? The latest I see is even. http://www.gallup.com/poll/157907/romney-n...debate-win.aspx It updates every day. http://www.gallup.com/poll/150743/Obama-Romney.aspx This was a story pre-release, showing that there was a three day Romney boost, that has clearly since faded. Rasmussen shows similar too, with a 4 point bump for Romney that has settled into a tie score in their tracker today. I won't lie and say as an Obama supporter that I'm not concerned, but I'm also seeing evidence that says that polls over the weekend had a big bounce that seems to be fading. The PPP poll out tomorrow with Daily Kos will show Romney ahead as well, apparently.
  3. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 6, 2012 -> 08:38 PM) looks like Romney has taken the lead nationally and in many swing states. Obama's campaign, consisting mostly of marketing slogans and celebrity endorsements (no ideas, no plan, no specifics), is not doing so good. Sure, there are some people that vote based on shiny logos and marketing slogans, but it appears they are not a majority in the US. Latest Gallup poll - Obama +5
  4. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 4, 2012 -> 06:04 PM) if you mean a drunk, bumbling, professor, then yes Obama was professorial. Professors aren't regularly drunk? You must not have gone to my school...
  5. Seems to me we started the year with a lot more question marks and holes than answers and expectations. Being in the run til the last week of the season is pretty major. Even if we don't right the ship this year, its nice to see us be in the thick of things at the very end of the season. Not many people expected that from us. Collapse, shmollapse... I don't think many people thought this edition of the Sox had this kind of year in em.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 03:59 PM) George McGovern hates you. Walter Mondale also sends his regards.
  7. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/09/18/1...tember-surprise I don't know why, but this cartoon just made me laugh a lot.
  8. I've been following this from afar (New Jersey) and I'm way too lazy to read this whole thread - but when I was a kid, I seem to recall the CTU would strike far more often in the 80s. Like if a lampshade looked at the Union President wrong, there was a strike! Also, generally when days are lost to a teacher's strike, they are made up at the end of the year. So the "how could you do this to the children" meme is sorta bulls***. Unless you do it on every snowday or at the beginning of every summer vacation. I think their strikes would actually be most effective, however, if it was more limited. Rather than just total walkoff, it might make more sense to say walk off one or two days a week.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 03:14 PM) Airport bathrooms...for congressman anyway
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 11:22 PM) I was reading in our local magazine that gays and lesbians make up 1 to 2 percent of the population. That is not a high percentage. This is not a flame ... but where do gays and lesbians find dates/partners?? There ain't many out there. Serious question, not trying to be an ass. Gay bars Gay Coffee Houses Gay Community Centers Coming Out Support Groups Any one of the dozens of gay online personal ads... Then there's the phone based ones too. There are lots of ways to meet people.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 01:45 PM) Did they broadcast Chris Christie's speech last night? Because a keynote speech is usually broadcast. That's why you give that speaker the Keynote, because that's one of the speeches that typically gets covered. The broadcast networks covered the convention between 10 and 11PM yesterday, similar time frames will be covered today and tomorrow.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 01:20 PM) Yawn. And George Clooney is holding Obama fundraisers in Switzerland or something like that. I think if you're trying to deflect people from talking about your offshore accounts, holding fundraisers on boats in Florida which are flagged in those same countries that your tax havens are in is probably a bad optic.
  13. Mitt Romney holds a Tampa fundraiser on a Yacht. A Yacht which is apparently chartered in the Caymans. http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/romney-party...ed#.UD5L89ZlQ7s

  15. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 12:23 AM) Because if you have a guy teacher, especially if he is single, there are always those that look at him and wonder if he is a pedophile or a pervert. Since they have all these government programs (quotas) to get more women in math and science fields, I think they should have a title 9 to get men into teaching fields. We should get equal representation in the teaching profession. We need government intervention now to remedy this tragedy. Please tell me that my colorblindness isn't letting me see the green here.
  16. In fact you can now deposit checks directly with a mobile device. Which is pretty cool.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 11:59 AM) Was about to start a savings acct with ING Direct but reviews since capitalone merger have been hammering it. I'm still leaning toward it, because it still has no fees on anything and the best tools for getting your money (ALLY still has no mobile app), but I am nervous. Anyone have ING notice any differences? I was nervous as well, but I'll be honest, I've noticed absolutely no difference whatsoever. I miss my 4.65% Interest rate though.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 10:42 AM) What does it say about all the good that was done if it was all based on a lie? Motivation for doing good things says nothing about the good thing itself. Only the person behind it.
