Big game ..yes Must win ..no, not even close
-
Ortiz is great, but he has a huge advantage with Manny batting behind him.
-
Our pitching is a big problem, but it goes deeper than Hawk insisting we have to pitch inside. Everytime a pitcher struggles his answer is to pitch inside. I don't think it's quite that simple.

Vaz for Young = Brolio for Brock

GAME THREAD 7-6-06 SOX vs Orioles

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 01:45 PM) That looks like a Javier Vazquez line. ZING! Now go get 'em, Javy. If nothing else Vaz is consistent. I think in his last 8 starts he's gone 6 innings ..give or take an out. td -
What happened to Tad?

QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ May 26, 2006 -> 09:21 AM) I would have laughed so hard had Mabry got suspended. I don't know think it's fair. P.J. should not have a fine, and Barrett's 10 game is too light. With his history (almost starting a fight a few days before against S.D. ) I think he should have got 20 games. What's the difference between his punch and the Kermit Washington punch against Rudy T? Starting a fight with punches (not the usual "shove") should be way more.

I have it on Tivo, and can make a DVD. When I do that they aren't always compatible with all DVD players ..especially older ones. tfdrake@sbcglobal.net

With a rainout looming, and it looked that way all week it is all the more puzzling why Ozzie & Kenny didn't just bump up everybody in the rotation. I would think every starter would rather have 4 days rest rather than 5 or 6.
-
Haeger would not start Wednesday. Even is someone was hurt, with Monday off, everyone would just move up a day and the Sox wouldn't have to decide until Saturday.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) Buerhle's pitching. It will go quickly. And with the new Indianapolis time zone ..it's 10:05. I have to wake up in the middle of the night and check the Tivo.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 24, 2006 -> 08:36 AM) I'll say this to the extreme optimists, just as quick as I will the extreme pessimists... Its early. You can't expect 6-7 guys to be hitting .300+, as well as you can't expect Anderson, Pods, Uribe to hit less than the Medoza line, while Garland, Politte, and Garcia sport near double digit ERAs. Its a long season and things will equalize out. I'm not sure 101 wins is out of reach. Has there ever been a better 5 man rotation ..from top to bottom? The key (as always) is to stay heathy.

QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 12:24 PM) I think some people tend to overexagerate the general crappiness of our radio team. We are simply used to such a high standard with Rooney, that our present team, (which is probably average compared to most MLB teams) is considerably worse than before. Just remember, it could always be worse... we could be listening to Ron Santo I'll take Ron Santo. I could live with Farmer, but when Singleton does play by play it's painful. And the worse part is when it's a close game in the ninth and they are trying to talk about some disco bar in the 80's or something. I'm an old man, I used to listen to Bob Elson with my radio hidden under my pillow. At least now we usually have t.v. I guess tonight I'll watch game cast on ESPN and imagine my own play by play.

QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Apr 11, 2006 -> 05:32 PM) Ohh, just the clinchers from the playoffs. I've got the whole Sox post season on tape, so I guess I won't get it. I think it's worth it. You can easily go to whatever inning you to watch without searching.

To put ALL of the blame on the Score and pretend the Sox didn't have input is a little naive. Boyer should have seen this train wreck coming.
-
Everyone is assuming all 5 starters will always be heathy. It's very unusual if 5 starters to be heathy year after year. I'd be surprised if BMac not starting sooner rather than later.
-
I have XM, so at least on some guys I'll be able to listening to the opposing team's announcers. Honestly, they need to bring in a 3d guy, or throw Singleton a life jacket or something ..for his sake.
-
Why did the announcer have to be an ex-player. There are literally hundreds of qualified minor league, college or even high school announcers that would do an ok job. I think the people that think we are too hard on Singleton have never heard him.
-
QUOTE(rudylaw @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 03:30 PM) The fisrt time I heard Singleton this year I thought that it was not bad for his first game. But he seems to be getting worse. He is bad. No other way to put it, BAD I heard him the first time yesterday. It was unreal. Does he have any options left, or do we have to bring him north?

With my Illini losing today, it's time for baseball. Did the Sox really win the series last year. I'm an ol' man .. been going to games for 40 years. One thing that makes it hard to believe is that it happened so fast. Often times teams come close, but don't make it, but come back time and time again, and it finally happens. I thought I'd be happy if the Sox just made it to the Series. Now, I'm greedy and hoping for a repeat. Here's to a great summer.

No. Should've kept Blum. Marte had a bad couple months .. but in the last two or three years he's one of the best LHRP. Myers isn't coming to Chicago.

QUOTE(Randar68 @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 09:54 AM) Because he's nowhere near ready for the MLB and protecting him would have meant exposing someone more likely to be selected and able to help us this year if needed. I would be shocked to see him kept on a MLB roster all year, but stranger things have happened. Actually no ... we only had 39 on our roster, so we could have kept him & at least trade him. No big deal, it just seems odd we had a free spot & now he gets picked #1, and KC may trade get to trade him.
-
QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 09:25 AM) Not clear, although Jim Callis said they might have traded it in the Redman deal. If Castro is so great, why didn't we protect him since we had a spot open. Even if we didn't like him, he obviously had trade value.

QUOTE(jenksd @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 11:10 PM) http://insider.espn.go.com/insider/podcast/player?id=2245138 This guy is a total babbling bafoon. He talks about king kong and dairy products for 5 minutes then starts bashing the Sox and Konerko. Highlights include: "THERE WAS ONLY 9 PEOPLE AT THE PARADE" "Konerko is a nutcase!" "He should have gone to Anaheim! The weather is warm! The southside is tire fires!" "A federal prison is your fanbase! The parade was small because thei fans couldn't get on parole!" edit: If you don't have insider I can hook you up, if that's not against the rules. Colin was very embarrased because in September he was the #1 ESPN radio guy going on and on how the Sox were a fraud, and would be exposed in the play-offs. When it turned out that Colin was 100% wrong, he had to run for cover. He also is 100% west coast .. and everything east of Arizona is the great Satan

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 05:44 PM) I don't know why we want to remove Iguchi out of the two spot (not sure if he requested this or not, but as a team I say too bad). He was exceptional in the 2 hole, moving runners over, sacraficing himself, and hitting when necessary. I thought he worked rather fantastically in the 2 hole, and one thing teams lack are top of the order hitters that know what they're doing. We find it, and now we wanna break it up?! I'm sorry, but Iguchi isn't a #3 hitter in the states. I like our order as is, #1-6 should be left alone. I mean...WOW, I don't even know why this is being discussed. We have a 2 spot hitter most teams would kill for, and here we are discussing moving him elsewhere, and potentially screwing him up good. I vote leave him #2. Agree, Leave him at #2. He actually has better hitting stats with men on base. Gets more fastballs, and the pitcher is distracted. I don't see him when drastically better numbers be moving to #6.
