Why worry about scrub fans, he had a 3.32 era for them this yr and a 2.63 era last yr and they didn't appreciate him, is it our fault that their GM and manager tried to make him a closer? Btw, it also looks like he was hurting some earlier in the season also, he's been lights out since coming off the DL. If we could get him for Shingo+ and Guardado for a Viz package, that'd make Cotts as the low man in the BP. How fricken awesome would that be!

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 03:50 PM) Simple: Large majority of hitters are right handed. A left-handed catchers throw would be obstructed more often by the batter than would a normal right-handed catchers would. Glad I could help.... Ah, that would explain why there's no right handed pitchers since their back is to the runner on first and their pickoff throw is obstructed. Thanks for the help.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) I think he will be staying with the White Sox. He had 1 bad outing against a team that owns him. It's stupid to trade him. As opposed to the Great Bobby(Cy) Jenks who's pitched all of 1.1 innings with 3 BB and 3 earned runs

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 02:43 PM) fyi: from baseball 101 for idiots: players who throw lefthanded play 1b or OF, and never 3b, SS, 2b, C" And why is it that a lefty can't catch?

After reading thru all the Orioles news I think it's pretty evident that they'll end up with AJB. It seems the only one still mentioning the Sox is Gammons. This makes sense as this is not a good fit for us, however KW seems to be keeping it alive for some reason whether to placate fans or to create doubt in other GM's minds as to their intentions. As it is now, I see no move on KW's part til at least after El Duque's start on Sunday vs the BoSox and looking at the schedules of possible trade partners and competitors it's doubtful anything is going to happen til the deadline.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 03:21 AM) Well, our pen is already stronger than theirs. But the Red Sox were able to win last year because of the strength of their starting pitching (Schilling/Pedro/Lowe). So it goes to reason that we should focus more on starting pitching than on the bullpen. Red Sox won because the Yanks had the all-time choke in post season history and because the Yankee BP was not the dominant lockdown BP of yrs past. Oh, and there was this guy named Ortiz who had a few things to say about it too.

Amen and thank you. Let's just get our RP and be done with it.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 02:57 AM) I understand that. I was just addressing the point brought up about not needing a deep 'pen in the playoffs, as the BoSox only used three relievers (is that true? I could've sworn they used Lowe out of the 'pen at one point or another). If the Sox could get the lead going into the seventh inning, that's huge. Shortening the game by a third. Then go to whatever combo in the seventh of Cotts/Politte, then in the 8th to Hermy/Marte, then to the ninth with Wagner (or Guardado). That's an awesome bullpen. Boston played 3 extra inning games in the playoffs last yr, they also had Arroyo knocked out in the 3rd inning of a game too. They used everyone including Pedro as a reliever. Btw, their pen sans Foulke was horrid in the playoffs and that should've cost them(and almost did) but they had an O that could score against anyone. Since we don't have their O I sure as hell wouldn't want to emulate their pen.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 10:03 PM) You can't back into a world championship. If we win it, will beat whoever steps on the field to play us. If it's the Cardinals, fine. If it's someone else from the NL, then they've probably gotten there by beating the Cards. That's fine, but for a team that hasn't won in 88 yrs there'd be no shame in playing the Fathers and hoping that it happens. Btw, I feel no shame in hoping we don't have to face Oakland in the 1st round either.

QUOTE(drowninginflame @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 08:40 PM) We bought the 9 game pack at soxfest and I feel screwed cause, we thoguht we would get first shot at the playoffs and now we're getting F'ed for not buying 13 or more. Don't feel screwed, you filled your flush but the hand to be ended up being a fullhouse. That's the way it goes sometimes.

I think El Duque in his 2 starts this week is going to render all this trade talk mute, both talk of him and any other starter.

GAME THREAD 7-17-05 SOX vs INJUNS

Sox starters held them to 0,1,2,0 runs and the whole staff to 6 runs for the 4 game series. That's some great road pitching against a good team. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 07:18 PM) He actually is pretty sharp, he's getting ahead of hitters and just aceing hitters with 2 strikes on them and he's not getting the calls. Ok, I'm going by radio today instead of TV so I'll defer to better judgement but 3 of 5 leadoff hitters reaching is playing with fire and I wasn't infering that he'd lose only that he's making it hard to keep the shutout in tack. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 06:32 PM) Plus the fact Juan is starting to hit the ball had and hasn't had anything to show for it yet and Aj is going to start hitting too, good stuff. I'm really looking forward to seeing what this O can do when everyone is doing what they can do. A lot of guys haven't hit up to what they normally do and the offense overall has been pretty good scoring runs so just imagine what they'll do when they get around their career averages. The thing with Uribe though is that since he has no discernable plan up there you don't know if him hitting it hard but at 'em really means anything. It may just mean that he on the road(he's god awful at home) or that this is his hot streak but is getting no production out of it.. -

And we're into rain delay. -
Could we really afford to have another Uribe hitting on this team? There's just nothing about this possible trade to make you want to do it. As has been noted, let's just get the hell out of the way and let Baltimore\Boston make this mistake.
