  1. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) How so? You aren't moving Pods, probably not Dye and Anderson certainly doesn't need another year in AAA. Rowand also has lost his power and for some reason is bad when there is a guy on 3rd with less than two outs. However, he is good with two outs with runner in scoring position. This is a legitimate question. Because assuming Anderson will be able to step into a starting role next yr is ludicrous. Anderson might make the team next yr and if he catches fire he might eventually earn a starting nod but to trade someone on the assumption that someone will be able to make that jump is assinine. Next thread!
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 02:55 AM) If it's Wagner, Hermy's a setup man. No doubt. Hermy has also said he'll do whatever the Sox ask. It's all about team with him. Exactly YAS, it is because of Hermy being the ultimate team guy that a Wagner or Guardado should be(and hopefully is) at the top of our shopping list. There would be no chemistry issue at all with either of those two because of Hermy. It also helps that both are considered great team players themselves and most likely the addition of either would end up with us going to a dual closer role so that both Hermy and Billy/Eddie would be fresh come playoff time.
  3. To be honest, if Boston trades Arroyo(plus prospects) for AJB I'm jumping up for joy. That's a season killing trade, esp. when you consider their BP woes.
  4. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 10:43 PM) You could make a case that Contreras has outperformed Burnett this season. To take on Lowell too would be silly. Good point, and looking at it realistically, when you consider 1st half performance and career #'s you can expect the same thing from both of them the 2nd half, 5-6 wins. If you expect to get the same production then why trade? Then there's the playoffs, AJB has 0 experience, Contreras has some experience. The big difference here though is that you already have a relationship with Contreras and because of that Ozzie can go up to him before a playoff start and say "Jose, if you shake off your catcher I'm gonna pull you, no ands, ifs, or buts about it". To the contrary, there's really not enough time to establish a realtionship with AJB and that could lead to Ozzie sticking with the guy beyond what's prudent. So again, the one you have now has playoff experience and because of your established relationship you are comfortable in how you will handle him in that situation, the one you'd be trading for has no playoff experience and thus is a mystery as to how he will react plus your have not established a relationship and that could lead you into poor judgements with him. So then why trade? To add on taking on a contract like Lowell's to boot is insane.
  5. Of course Vizcaino's worth just went up, let's keep him!
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) Batista/Lilly both make a lot of sense. Hilly could make some sense, but I think the Sox are going to hold tight on the Crede front and see what Crede does these next few weeks. If things go well, they'll stick it out with him, but if he struggles and finds himself on the DL, a deal will be made (I'm convinced the best option is Omar with Juan moving to 3rd). They could get Hinske though for little more than picking up his contract and they'd feel no pressure at all to have him sitting on the bench behind Crede and Kong, that would not be the case with Hilly. Btw, I also prefer Omar, but Crede stays at 3rd, Juan super sub.
  7. It's a far Far Far stretch to go from us having a scout at the BJ game to us trading for Chacin or even Lilly. We may also be looking at Hillenbrand or Hinske who both can backup either 1st or 3rd or we could be interested in Bautista who is also rumored to be on the block.
  8. With all their BP problems if the BoSox waste all their resources going after another bat that'd pure stupidy. I hope they do it.
  9. Thome to the Angels makes way too much sense, I hope it's not even considered.
  10. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 07:09 PM) The Dodgers are not very pleased with either and both could be had for a little less. In Miller's case health may be an issue but everything I've heard Jackson is or at least was healthy. I know he had some minor injury early in the year but he's been struggling for a long time in AAA. Still, he could be one of those guys that could frankly use a change of scenery. The Dodgers could also use a closer and Shingo would be a nice fit in the LA area. And for those that thing LA has given up your nuts. LA is due to get a bunch of their bats back and has the best pitching in the division (along with the Padres). There is absolutely no reason for them to give up. If they are within 5 or 6 at the deadline, they will be buyers, mark my words. Plus they get the likes of Milton Bradley, Jose Valentin, and JD Drew back. Thats a pretty major difference, imo. Well it would have to be for a prospect with LA cause they have nothing we'd want on the roster.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 07:28 PM) Cotts is warming up. It will be interesting if we don't see even a sign of Shingo. It would pretty much confirm all the trade rumors. Or it could be that Cleveland has murdered him this yr with 5 HR's and Ozzie sees no reason in risking more damage.
  12. Rumor, Schmidt ain't going nowhere. You can close this thread now.
  13. Damm, it's the 6th inning and we're into their pen again. Hopefully it won't matter tommorrow but I like see it.
  14. The cart is still 4 feet in front of the horse but the cart is slowing down!
  15. I wouldn't mind if they didn't wait til two outs to score this time.
  16. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 05:51 PM) Damnit, i wish we could have pinch hit timo. How good is crede. Good enough to drive in the first run.
  17. We could avg 36k this coming homestand(it depends on Tuesday), Yankee series is a sellout, Minny series will be a near sellout, we'll avg 34k for the Seattle series and maybe more, the same for the Angels, Detroit labor day weekend could be huge, and the whole final homestand vs CLE and Minny should be huge. That leaves the Toronto and KC series' along with which way the labor day weekend goes to decide. If we get 33k for DET and 30K for TOR and KC I think we have a pretty good shot at 34k the rest of the way.
  18. 27.00 era vs Anaheim 18.00 era vs Yankees 10.50 era vs Texas 22.50 era vs Toronto 9.00 era at Comiskey 14.40 era at the Coliseum What about these #'s make you want to trade for him?
  19. I heard the same things about Viz too and I wasn't impressed then either. I've also seen alot more of Cruz and was never impressed with his control and this yr it's even worse.
