  1. Forgot about Dunning for a bit. D'oh I guess if they need to fill only one SP spot, they might be able to fill both RF and SP if they go for a B option in both spots. But the way I look at it is that their either going to be able to get Stroman/Odorizzi or a non-Springer option in RF, not both. I don't see them participating in the Bauer and Springer markets.
  2. Right now there are 3 holes in the rotation and 1 hole in the offense, with quite possibly every team in baseball on a limited budget. The way I look at it is it's an either/or proposition. They can fix RF and go cheap at SP again, and hope the young guys develop with a kick ass offense, or they can fix SP and try to hide the hole in RF. The SP are so bad outside of Giolito and Keuchel, that I don't think they can even make the playoffs over 162 if they don't fix SP. They are at a point that they can only afford to break in one young SP per season. Next year that will be Kopech, the year after it will be Crochet. In the best case scenario, both guys turn out to be the super studs we think they are and it frees up money to fill RF. I think Cease becomes a trade chip, as both Kopech and Crochet have shown more ability in the command/control category. Crochet is probably on the Chris Sale plan of bullpen in 2021, and if he's as dominant as we think he can be, and stays healthy slides right into the MLB rotation as the 5th starter in 2022. If they wanted to flip Cease for a long-term, cost controlled fix in RF that wouldn't be a bad option either.
  3. They need to focus the majority of their budget on getting the best pair of SP that they can. They can hide a project in RF because the rest of the offense is so damn good. Whether it's Mazara cheaply again after a non-tender or Benintendi, it's far easier for the Sox to hide a project in RF than it is for them to hide projects in the rotation. Also, who knows if there will be a MiLB season next year?
  4. The big thing about Lopez is that his stuff has regressed considerably since the Sox called him up from Charlotte. He was sitting 96-97 and topping at 99 with a nasty curve and changeup when he got called up. Now he's sitting 93-94 and topping at 96 while featuring an average slider and the change is very inconsistent, if still good when located. I think a Lopez/Benintendi swap would be good for both parties, as Boston needs SP and the Sox need a LH OF. Both guys are disappointing former top prospects that have regressed since their successful rookie season.
  5. Say no to George Springer. I don't think he's going to age well and I think whoever signs him will be in a world of hurt.
  6. If they signed Stroman and Quintana/Gausman I'd be fine with that, because it's not the Sox MO to sign the top pitcher on the market. I won't believe that they'll land Bauer until the ink is dry and the presser is announced. They'd rather spread it around in B/C FA and fill multiple holes than spend for the A ones. If ever there was a time to break the mold, it's now as the Sox only have 2 holes: A #2 SP and RF.
  7. I don't wish to discuss further. I'm going to delete my post, I ask if you guys will do so as well. Not worth it.
  8. Yeah. Imagine you're an engineer working for a chemical company that's dumping toxins into the Mississippi or something like that. You go to the CEO and ask him to stop, you're told to FO. Are you going to risk your career to narc on them? More serious situation. (this actually happened with 3M btw, but nobody stepped forward until the EPA busted them)
  9. I think Odorizzi and Gausman are their targets. I heard they were going to be interested in Odorizzi had he hit the market last year.
  10. In case anyone didn't know, Hinch also has White Sox ties: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/hincha.01.shtml
  11. This is such a White Sox thing to do. My god. TLR isn't 80 yet, he's 76. Still old.
  12. We all wanted Rodon over Nola. We were all wrong. Le sigh.
  13. Dave Duncan is already a consultant with the Sox.
  14. Pete Rose and Barry Bonds et al. are being excluded because they violated the integrity of the game. How is this any different? If you want to say it's a HOF issue only...that's fine, but I expect consistency across baseball when it comes to integrity of the sport issues. Either you want to protect the integrity of the game or you don't. Just don't lie to the fans about it. Pete Rose is banned from baseball. How is cheating any different from gambling? It's 6 of one, half dozen of the other.
  15. The Astros literally hacked the game with computers. They used AI in order to decode signs and had an intricate relaying system to the dugout that involved banging a trashcan a certain number of times in order to gain a competitive advantage. This was way worse than what Coppoella did with the Braves, and he got a lifetime ban. They needed to bring the hammer down on the Astros to make sure it never happens again. What's to stop other teams from doing it and trying harder to conceal it?
  16. I couldn't care less really what they do as long as they're consistent. Either you let Rose, Bonds, Jackson et al. in the HOF or you permawhack guys, including everyone involved with the 2017-18 Astros at the MLB level, make the owner of the Astros sell the team, etc. There is no middleground. You can't take the moral high ground on Rose/Bonds and then not treat the Astros accordingly.
  17. Shady Brady and Bill Belicheat I despise both Brady and Belichick.....and I don't think they're legit. In fact both should have been banned from the sport long ago. The "took a OTC supplement and didn't do my homework" excuse for testing positive for roids is more believable than any excuse Hinch and Cora have. This is a huge scandal. Its Black Sox level shit. If they're not going to lay down the hammer on these groups, then let Pete Rose, Bonds et al in the HOF, posthumously elect 1919 White Sox to the HOF and allow gambling, because they're lying about caring about the integrity of the game. I'm ok giving people a second chance, but if baseball has the audacity to keep players like Pete Rose and Barry Bonds out of the HOF, and don't permawhack these guys AND the players involved, then they need to drop the facade and quit pretending they actually care about the integrity of the game. Either you care about the integrity of the game or you don't.
  18. I liked Coop for a long time, but it was past time to move on.
  19. Yeah it's crazy how quickly Sale broke down after he left the Sox.
