I don't know where to put this, but a lot of the Sox contention window revolves around Moncada recovering from covid ok and being close to the player he was in 2019 again. I will be watching closely next year. After paying him what they did, they can't afford for him to be merely average or worse.

Ricky is probably going to have to piss most or all of this window away to get fired.

Official NHL COVID season thread

Maatta trade in a vacuum was fine de Haan trade in a vacuum was fine both combined sucked. I hated the Shaw move from the moment it was made. There was no reason to acquire one of Maatta/de Haan or Shaw. Caggiula does what Shaw does for half the price. They finally had cap space last year and they wasted it. They should have taken the #2/3 they traded for Shaw and moved it for Nylander, kept Jokiharju and acquired de Haan only. -
Sox should replace Renteria with Ozzie Guillen

Also fits the category of "former White Sox player" And unlike AJ Hinch or Alex Cora, he won't piss off Bauer. -
Idk if I wanna know the price on that after the season Harper just had. They need pitching more than Harper.

I think Cease and Dunning as the centerpieces would be enough. I'm not particularly high on either guy but 99 mph and + command are things that teams look for.

My targets: Scenario A-Jerry is willing to spend to put the team over the top 1. Bauer 2. Conforto(trade) 3. Hendriks 4. Brantley for DH 5. Quintana Go to war with this Scenario B: Sox are staying out of the top of the FA market, but winning to spend a little bit 1. Gallen or Woodruff (Trade) 2. Nimmo (Trade) 3. Odorizzi 4. Brantley for DH 5. Benintendi for Lopez Scenario C : Minimal spending 1. Gallen or Woodruff (Trade) 2. Benintendi for Lopez 3. Brantley for DH 4. Odorizzi or Quintana if they're willing to spend there Gallen or Woodruff would probably take Cease and Dunning and I'm fine with that. Nimmo is interesting...he has 2 years left. I'd be willing to trade Madrigal + and go sign a 2B stopgap to acquire him. Prospects I don't want to trade: Vaughn Kopech Crochet Kelley Anyone else is available, including Madrigal, Cease and Dunning.

Both Benintendi and Lopez are derailed prospects at this point with early success and nothing since. Cease is an overpay, IMO.

Bingo.....

With a healthy Moncada and maybe adding Brantley/Benintendi(or even both) splitting time in LF and DH with Jimenez, you can hide Mazara for a half season if he continues to suck. I'm fine with a Mazara/Engel platoon to start the season. If they acquire either Brantley or Benintendi(likely, as the FO has liked both players for a while) then you can slide one of those guys to RF, Eloy to LF and call up Vaughn for DH. I think they can cut Mazara after ST with only owing him like 300 or 800k. It's worth bringing him to ST for that amount of money.
-
Agree with both. There are rumors out there that Mazara also had Covid and is not sharing publicly, which is his right to do.
-
I've always liked Benintendi but I wouldn't trade for him unless the cost was similar to Mazara. On the other hand, do you think Boston would do Lopez for Benintendi given they're hurting for MLB ready pitching?

Guess the pitcher we add in the offseason

I think the best bets are Quintana or Odorizzi. Outside chance at Stroman. Sucks Pineda isn't free again because I would have liked him. I really want Bauer but I don't think that's happening. -
First transaction: Rodon non-tender Crazy trade scenario: Cease/Dunning for Gallen Biggest signing: Odorizzi or Brantley(depending on who you think would be bigger) 2021 closer: Bummer/Heuer Yes I mean both, depending on how many lefties are due up. Bauer 2021 team: Sawx (Boston)

One of the greatest comedy scenes of all time.

They were never signing either guy if the dollar amount didn't start with a 3. Any offer that didn't begin with a 3 wasn't a serious offer. 8/250 wasn't a serious offer for Machado. Offering 5/125 for Wheeler was a step in the right direction. That's an offer that usually gets it done for a tier 2 FA. They still haven't made a competitive offer to a tier 1 FA since they chased A-Rod in 2001. They still got blown away. I don't know what Covid does to Kenny and Rick's allowance. That is and always was the point. Idk how much they're going to be allowed to spend. If it wasn't for Covid I wouldn't be concerned about a lack of spending at all. Last winter proved that. -

When we're talking about "won't pay top free agents" we're talking about the Harper/Machado/Cole/Rendon tier. -

I knew Maggs was the last guy, I forgot Lee was as good as he was at drawing walks. Outside of Maggs, Lee and Frank, can you think of guys that were drafted or signed by the Sox that were decent OBP producers? Mike Cameron was pretty good as well. I was wrong about the pre-KW/Hahn era. I'll take the L on that one.
