  1. They both have looked good at the plate, Moncada has been robbed of 2 hits so far.
  2. If you actually look at k zone in ESPN broadcasts the zone as currently defined is a box rather than a plane.
  3. When you have a 3D zone, you can't do that. because fastballs would have to be down the middle in order for sliders, cutters and changeups to not be ridiculous. The only way you could change the zone is if you had a zone for 4 seamers and a zone for everything else. For example, the pitch that Mazara struck out on could have actually been a strike, where it nicked the black on the inside corner toward the front of the plate before continuing to move inside. It doesn't look like it, but we don't see the 3D zone so we don't know.
  4. I'm suggesting it's unfair when pitches that have never been strikes in the history of baseball, and are pretty much impossible to hit, suddenly become strikes.
  5. That's fucking unhittable and unfair to hitters, along with never having been called a strike in the history of baseball. Like I said in the edit, the same thing could happen on the edges where a breaker that's caught a foot outside or nearly hits a batter suddenly becomes a strike for nicking the zone at the front of the plate. Do you want .200 to become the new .300 and 10 k games to become the norm? That's what would happen. I'm fine with a hybrid system where pitches that are strikes that don't make sense are overridden by the umps. Use the auto zone most of the time, and common sense when necessary.
  6. Technically, a breaker that hits the dirt at the catcher, depending on how much break there actually is, can nick the zone near the front of the plate. Robot umps would call that a strike. Also, a pitch that looks a foot outside or inside could theoretically do the same. The zone isn't a plane, it's a box.
  7. I think they should remove this stuff. Keep it internal. They can still have tracking data available, they can still show pitch location but if they remove the Strike Zone box I think b****ing by fans would decrease significantly. The biggest mistake MLB ever made was making the K zone public. Now every game is a referendum on umpires. With robot umps low breaking balls would be impossible, as most of them nick the zone even when they're in the dirt. How can you call that a strike when it never was before in the history of baseball? Robot umps open a giant can of worms.
  8. Didn't want Ryu either. The only FA pitchers I was interested in this past winter were Cole, which was never happening and Wheeler. I'd have gone bargain hunting after that.
  9. I don't like him for exactly this reason. (Getting lit in the playoffs) I get they don't have another option.
  10. I'm not making that claim because of 3.1 IP. I'm making it because he's a soft tossing LHP that relies on weak contact. Like I said you get the two extremes(really good or god awful) with no middle ground.
  11. I don't think he can help you win in the playoffs. He's a guy that can help you get there but should be your 4th starter or in the bullpen during the playoffs. Power pitchers play up, control pitchers play down in the playoffs.
