Official NHL COVID season thread

Did you think Perlini sucked before he got here too? If so, maybe I'll stfu a bit more. I defended him all of the 2019 season before taking the L on that one. Basically what I'm saying is that I'm willing to take the L on Nylander if everyone would just STFU about it. Both Perlini and Nylander are the hockey equivalent of taking a flyer on Mazara. They're gambles that good teams make but you're going to strike out more than you hit a HR. Knowing when to bail is the key here. Like I said earlier, it's like going to the casino with $100 and leaving with $60. -

Teravainen didn't fit here either. Neither did Kempny. Both went on to be decent players elsewhere. Not saying TT and Nylander are the same quality of player, but you get the picture. Sometimes it's just a bad fit. I will admit you could be right and he just sucks. However, there are much bigger fish to fry with this roster than Nylander. He's like 10th on the list of Hawks roster issues, and that is and always has been my point. So quit scapegoating him, and point the finger in the proper direction. BTW I'm starting to see why some of you have been critical of Bowman. He's acquired a lot of talented players in a vacuum but the whole is less than the sum of its parts. It's like he's putting a team together in NHL 20 and not real life. Too many square pegs and round holes. -

Those two opinions are not mutually exclusive. Nylander is a solid 3rd liner, but he plays best with North-South KISS players. The Hawks don't have a lot of those. It's a square peg/round hole issue. I'm fine with him getting traded just so you and everyone else would STFU. -

No, I was hopeful that he'd be good. Nylander has disappointed even me. I like to watch the game with my eyes, idk about you. Nylander is one of the more defensively responsible forwards on the Hawks, who are devoid of defensively responsible forwards. He's probably the best skater out of all of the Hawks forwards. Maybe the offense will come, maybe it won't. Right now, Nylander is a 30 pt/82 guy who is defensibly responsible. That's a solid 3rd liner. He was not acquired for that purpose, but he's not completely useless either. He hasn't done anything in the playoffs, but who has. Outside of a couple games the entire team has played like crap. Nobody on the Hawks should be immune to criticism, so it's not fair to single out Nylander. When Nylander was acquired I expected a flashy offensive player who was lazy on D. So far he's been the complete opposite. You can harp on Bowman for trading for Nylander, however I think you take that gamble (guy with with a high ceiling/low floor for guy with high floor/low ceiling) 10/10 times. That's my philosophy. It didn't work. You win some, you lose some. Bowman lost with Perlini too, but that was also worth the gamble. I wonder if Bowman will bail on Nylander as quickly as he did on Perlini. If he did, I wouldn't blame him. Also, when you make that gamble and it doesn't work bail asap, so some sucker gives you something of value in return. It's like going to the Casino with $100 and leaving with $60. You still lost but you didn't lose everything. -

I'm not even saying Nylander has been good(he hasn't) but he's been meh for the most part and you guys continue acting like he's some beer league player. Quit acting like Jokiharju is Nicklas Lidstrom to fit your narrative. Both you and Tony had your mind made up before he ever played a game for the Hawks. Confirmation bias much? Nylander has his issues but the only reason why I defend him is that there's this disease among the Hawks fanbase that somehow nobody can watch a game without trashing him. Fanbase is a bunch of idiots. Kid isn't completely useless out there, he's just meh. Nylander has not deserved the amount of hate that he's received from the fanbase. He does a lot of little things that help hockey teams win games but all you guys can see is his rookie mistake on any given shift. He's not doing much offensively, and yes, he's disappointed there. The good clear, you miss. The strong forecheck, you miss. The zone entries, you miss. The good keep in, you miss. Watch the kid a bit without bias and you'll notice these things. -

Continue to crap all over Nylander when Toews and Kane haven't showed up the entire series. Hawks have bigger issues than Nylander. Quit scapegoating him when two guys making $21M have been almost as bad. Point the finger where it belongs. -
Bolded are awful. Signs of a bad offense that got lucky.

If you look at playoff history guys mediocre starters with swing and miss stuff generally perform better in the postseason than starters who pitch to contact. What it tells you is that contact pitchers are bumslayers. -

What I mean is that pitchers that rely on contact in the playoffs are hit or miss. They either pitch gems or get lit up like a Christmas tree. There is no in between. Pitchers that miss bats are more steady in the playoffs. -

Still doesn't profile well in the playoffs. Like Buehrle he's either going to be great or get murdered in the postseason. -

Yeah because I thought Delmon Young was a consistent 25 HR guy with a .250 avg and and an OBP around .300-.310. That's my mistake. I wasn't selling Eloy short I thought Young was better than he was. -

I was expecting him to walk more than he has. Basically, I was expecting JD Martinez, or something like .290/.350/.900+ -
