  1. Moncada should steal when healthy, McCann shouldn't but Ricky is just dumb. He's rapidly approaching Bevington levels of buffoonery.
  2. Yup. Sheets or Collins could make a good LH middle of the order bat based on their improvement at the plate this season. I'm wondering if that little cup of coffee for Collins was just what he needed to take the advice of the Sox player development team on how to make it in the big leagues. The guy I saw in said cup of coffee had no business in the Majors.
  3. I'm thinking that a lot of the depth guys are going to rebuild their value next year.
  4. I don't think Abreu has that nuanced of a concept of the English language.
  5. Nova has been much better for the last month or so. He's been good enough that the Sox should consider bringing him back for a long man to cover innings with a staff comprised of young power arms in their first full MLB season and coming off of TJS.
  6. Hey Ron, could you please make an "Abreu Sucks" thread before his slump reaches 4 weeks next time? Thanks, Soxtalk Posters.
  7. Holy fuck dude we have to meet in person. We're literally having the same exact thoughts about both the Sox and Hawks. We'd probably make great pals. PM me sometime either on here or HF.
  8. Every time Ron makes a bash Abreu thread he gets hot. Keep it going @ron883 Why didn't you make one 2 weeks ago if you wanted him gone so badly LOL. Abreu getting hot after Ron makes an Abreu sucks thread is like clockwork.
  9. So, anyone ok with targeting Moustakas this offseason? This lineup needs a LH bat and I'd rather have him playing 1B than Abreu at this point. If Abreu wants to come back cheap as the DH that would be nice. It's going to be hard to get a LH bat for RF without making a trade. Nimmo is still an option. I think it's likely Collins is on the team next year. If Abreu is on a cheap 1 year deal he can move to a bench role when Vaughn is ready. Puig, Abreu and Moustakas should all be fairly inexpensive options to round out the lineup, and Nimmo is a backup buy low option and none of these guys should prevent the Sox from going after the top pitchers on the market.
  10. No. The huge issue is that the lineup needs a couple LH bats. None of those guys will be ready until 2021 at the earliest. Collins and Sheets are the closest LH sticks to MLB ready in the upper minors. Sheets is probably pushing it a bit and they don't have a ton oc internal options.
  11. Good luck to the boys today. Someone post the Twitter lineup please. Recovering from foot surgery and I haven't figured out how to embed Twitter posts from the app.
  12. They're free agents after the 2023 season dude.
  13. No, did you read that edit in the first one? I thought Walker had a hand injury not an oblique. I initially thought Walker was just recovered from a hand injury but I had bad info. Hand injuries change equations for Hitters. Before that I thought it was really close and it turns out that my initial analysis was correct. I understand the arguments for both.
  14. Absolutely, and that is why I was so down on him.
  15. We all know that. It isn't about him being injured as much as playing only 20 games in 16-20 months. That is really hard to overcome when you aren't an established MLB player. It's even worse for Burger where it will be at least 18 months for him facing no live pitching whatsoever, and not even having a full season in pro ball.
  16. I'm with you actually. I don't think Basabe underperformed, he had a chance to crack the T100 if he didn't get injured this spring. He was in the futures game last year and performed well. Basabe is in the injury department. Gonzalez I'd agree with you about. Rutherford gets a ton of flak because he was once a T40 guy and has not developed as much as everyone hoped. Honestly I think Rutherford has the best shot out of the Sox OF other than Robert and Basabe.
  17. If he leaves SF the Padres seem like the most logical landing spot for him. I've heard he enjoys California.
  18. What does that mean? All.of the potential depth they had in 2017 has evaporated due to mostly injuries and a bit of underperformance(Hansen/Rutherford)
  19. That is the wrong move. They can't afford to trade Robert, Madrigal, Vaughn, Cease or Kopech. Those guys are untouchable and core players, and they're the only players that can get that type of pitcher via trade. If they're not going to finish this off via FA, then the rebuild is going to be unsuccessful. Spending in FA is the only option to finish this off. I hope Hahn is conveying that to Jerry daily.
  20. That stuff is all part of the game though. Shifting has been around for 20 years and the rookie treatment from umps has been around forever. Also, I'm done arguing about Madrigal and Vaughn. They're both worthy of their draft slot, they just don't fit my personal philosophy. Madrigal has answered all of my questions. Vaughn hasn't had enough playing time yet, but as long as he rakes and hits HR, he's fine.
  21. Giolito is the biggest example of this. He totally sucked in his first few stints in the bigs and completely overhauled his delivery and arsenal. I saw the talent forever, but if he kept his long arm swing even with all of his other changes I'm not sure that he'd be as effective.
  22. I'm concerned because he's a pitcher and will cost $200M. I'm concerned he won't pay Strasburg because of his injury history. They might have a chance on Bumgarner and Wheeler. Bumgarner is kinda an asshat though. Idk if Bumgarner wants to leave the Pacific coast so maybe he ends up in SD if he leaves SF.
  23. No, but I loved their strategy this year. It was really good. Obviously every dollar possible and every dollar available are not the same thing every year. They nearly got to the 5% overage so that's what they should be doing( or attempting to do, as it's up to the middle round HS kids if they want to sign or go to college) perennially.
  24. Yeah I criticize Management for not spending money to put the team over the top. They're average for the most part, but being behind in analytics and PD sucks, and it hurts them. They seem to want to cling to old school baseball thought as long as possible and are slow to catch up. They're also inefficient in how they allocate their resources. The Nate Jones trade Wednesday was a head scratcher to say the least. They should be spending every dollar possible on their draft slot and international pool right now, and they're not doing it internationally. It isn't necessarily a negative comment that I thought that the Sox subscribe to the Japanese firing convention. That's sorta a Milton/office space thing. (Obviously in real life the employee is still getting paid) The whole point is to bore the employee until they leave on their own for a better opportunity.
