Yep, and that's not on Hahn, it's on Jerry.
-
I don't think Moncada and Giolito will be this bad next year. Possibly Lynn will be better as well. Grandal's knees are shot, it is what it is.

Orlando might be a fake insider, but he nailed it here.

They're admitting that this season is fucked.....which is fine. I actually agree with standing pat here. Re-evaluate in the winter.

Hey I found Hahn......
-
@bmags Hahn still has a job because Jerry won't fire him, and didn't when he earned his pink slip in 2015-16. So both are the problem. Jerry because he won't fire Hahn/KW and is backwards in baseball ops, Hahn because he's a bad GM and deserved to get fired at least 4 times in his tenure. As I've said many times, I wouldn't have as much of an issue with Jerry's MO if they made having a great farm the number one priority. They also need to make deals like the Brewers did yesterday with Hader.

Listen, Hahn sucks. I acknowledge that. He deserved to be fired years ago. There are a lot of things from a baseball operations standpoint that are problems with the org, and those start with Jerry. If Jerry wants to operate from a payroll standpoint the way he does (No long-term commitments, no large contracts, willing to spend a lot short-term during a window) Then he needs to invest in the infrastructure to make that feasible from a baseball ops standpoint. Invest heavily in player development, maybe max out at $175M instead of $195M and take the extra money and invest it in scouting, sabermetrics and player development. He can't be 20 years behind the times in these departments and expect to operate the way he does. Expensive bullpens need to stop, but that's on Hahn and Kenny during each of their tenures. My biggest complaint about Reinsdorf is more about being dumb about picking a lane. He's penny wise but dollar foolish. He's not cheap on total payroll during windows but isn't willing to take the risk to put the team over the top. That's fine, if you're churning out a top farm system on an annual basis. He won't spend to do that. Been a problem for this entire century. Beyond the baseball ops complaints, I guess my other complaint is that Hahn and Kenny still have jobs.

I think some of the expensive players might get salary dumped. They'll trade them for nothing. Grandal, Pollock and Moncada will be hard to trade. I think they might be able to get someone to bite on Lynn as a pure salary dump, mostly because it's just one year. Sox might have to pick up some money. While I think it's unlikely, there's like a 1-5% chance Giolito gets non-tendered. It depends on how desperate they are to cut payroll. If they do run it back, the team we see now is the team we have next year, minus Cueto.
-
I really think they should consider trading Anderson and Cease this winter. They could get a ton (as long as other teams don't realize Anderson has turned into what Madrigal was supposed to be) Cease hired Boras and is entering his arb years. He's great and won't re-sign.

I'll disagree with you about 2013, because that was a mostly aging roster and he had only been GM for a year or two. (I don't remember if 2011 or 2012 was Hahn's first year as GM) But I have no arguments about the other ones.
-
I remember the two of us barking in 2016 about how Hahn should be fired, and someone else should be re-building the club. Bolded: Borchard? Brian Anderson? Kenny was better at pro scouting than Rick is, I'll agree there. He had a run when he found guys that were underperforming and got the most out of them with the coaching staff from 03-08. Loaiza, Contreras, Quentin, Thornton to name a few.
-
That's the other option. They either trade the good players and tear it down, or run it back one more time.
-
Was talking more about the shitty farm system and playing DHs in the field. Good point about the ground ball rate.
-
Yeah I always get that messed up for some reason.
-
He wasn't the Bulls owner until 1985. Jordan was drafted in 1984.
-
I think Hahn sucks but Jerry sucks too. I wanted Hahn fired in 2016. Hahn has done a terrible job working around Jerry's budget and other constraints. He deserves to be fired. But firing Hahn won't solve the problem itself. Could it help? Sure. Jerry has the team 20 years behind the times and that is the issue. All of the issues the Sox have right now were issues under KW as well. The issues with the Sox are more nuanced than just Hahn vs Jerry.
-
Is it possible that both are the problem? The only things that Hahn has done well are trading Adam Eaton, Chris Sale and Jose Quintana. Anyone could have received a decent return for those three.
-
Yep

Just my opinion, but I think the Sox go to Cease with an extension this winter, and if he doesn't accept they trade him. I have a feeling that Jerry is going to mandate payroll be slashed and some players are going to be salary dumped and some good players will be traded. This team is getting torn down yet again, and yet again there will be no accountability for the FO. I think Robert, Vaughn and Eloy will remain due to age. Everyone else is fair game.

BTW footlong dog is probably fulla shit but he's fun anyway.
-
Not anymore. Waiver period has been eliminated. It's do or die today. (New CBA)
-
Yep. I don't think that we're going to like it because it's going to be the good players getting traded and the ones with bad contracts remaining.
