And I'd disagree because Abreu himself has said as much. He said that he feels like he has to do it all himself. That is why they moved Moncada behind him, but that has affected Moncada negatively because he now doesn't have protection. Ricky won't bat Eloy 5th, so now Moncada gets the trash pitches.
-
How much of that has to do with him pressing because he's been surrounded by garbage hitters and how much has to do with declining skill? That is the $1M question.
-
I know, but he has a completely different profile and a better track record than Mazara. Track record matters. Mazara hasn't even come close to Abreu's 2017. Abreu put up a 4.3 fWAR in 2017. In Mazara's best year he put up a 1.0 fWAR. You don't see the difference here? Abreu himself has said that he feels like he has to do it all himself. That explains a lot of his hacking and lack of OBP. Imagine if the dude could relax a little at the plate instead of pressing.
-
It is different because Abreu can be better and has a track record of success, despite his last two seasons. How much of that has to do with having trash hitters and no protection? Abreu has been a 3-4 WAR player in the past. Mazara hasn't even come close to that.
-
Because Mazara only has 2.33 years of team control left, Boras is his agent, and he's been a ~1 WAR player since he's been called up. His value is about the same as Avi in the winter of 2017-18. If Mazara takes off, he's certainly going to FA, and if he doesn't then you have a 1 WAR player. If you trade for Mazara, and he becomes good, he's only a two year rental.
-
Nope, they just re-sign him to a 2 year deal. It is fine. He can be a place holder until Vaughn is ready, and then maybe he's having a better year and making less money, so someone could be serious about trading for him when Vaughn is called up. The only player I'd trade off the team for these types of trash offers is Nova. If he continues to pitch well in the 2nd half and isn't traded, I'd consider bringing him back as SP insurance and a long man out of the pen.
-
Fine then, If I'm Hahn I hold on to everyone, and tell the opposition to call back when they're serious about making a deal.
-
Then the Sox should keep him. They're not required to give him away. The Encarnacion deal isn't a rental and he's more expensive. That was nothing more than a salary dump and EE is also 4 years older than Abreu. Apples and Oranges. All I ask is that if anyone gets traded, that the return is worthwhile. If not, they can go pound sand. The Sox should be both buying and selling today and tomorrow.

Mazara is a 1 WAR player. It is basically reclamation project for reclamation project. Mazara, Fulmer and Hansen could all be characterized as "trash with some upside left" The Phillies package I proposed is mainly about Medina. I'd try to get either Haseley or Moniak, but I'd settle for less, as long as Medina was the centerpiece. The Rays deal doesn't get done without McClanahan. The Sox need some LHP, and I went through the Rays top 30 list and picked those guys. Banda is injured and a reclamation project so I thought that he was a good throw in that would be ready next year.
-
If the Sox couldn't get the packages that I suggested for Colome and Abreu then the contending teams can go pound sand. You have to give to get. Nobody should be trading rental players for garbage.
-
You're undervaluing players. Teams(not just the Sox) shouldn't be selling their players for contending teams' junk. Either pay up or go try to win something with the team you have now. I feel like the lack of activity is because the offers for established players are garbage and it is a giant game of chicken.
-
I tried to be pretty conservative there. There is one guy on a T100 list and he's in the 90s. If they can't even get that type of deal then they aren't worth trading. They have more value to the Sox than any other team in that case. Also, I'm not willing to trade anything other than reclamation projects for Mazara. They shouldn't be trading their top chips for Cordell/Medeiros types. If you're wondering why nothing has happened, it is because teams aren't offering anything of value. Either offer something of value or beat it.
-
I hope the Sox could pull off the following trades: Abreu to TB for McClanahan and Banda Colome to PHI for Medina and Haseley/Moniak Mazara to Sox for Fulmer and Hansen
-
Yup. The stuff is still elite, every mistake is getting crushed right now. It all evens itself out in the end.

Colome remains with White Sox, who always had ample interest in him

They need to target pitching. -

If the Phillies wanted to do something around Haseley and Medina I'd be ok with that. -

I agree wholeheartedly with this post. Regardless of the fact that I don't like Collins, there are plenty of positives. In March if you wanted to declare the rebuild dead, nobody could argue with you. Now it is alive and well. Huge difference. Despite that, there is a large segment of this board that continues to focus on solely the shortcomings. I'd say it is a 50/50 split. Rebuilding was the right course of action -

Whomever said in 2016 that Sox fans couldn't handle a rebuild was correct. That is all. -
I question whether he can make enough contact to stick in the Majors. That is why I use BA. There are players who have hit .300 in the minors and can't crack Mendoza in the Majors. Why would you think Collins can when he's hovering in the .240s in the minors? His swing is long and slow and he was having issues with 91 mph fastballs.

Reed: 6/34 Collins: 2/26 Both have 1 HR and 14 k How come what you've seen out of Reed is enough to say that he sucks but you can't say the same about Collins? That is why I bring him up. If Reed sucks, so does Collins. I just want everyone to admit that.
-
Yeah Collins was here a couple weeks ago Not necessarily. Reed is awful but Collins takes it to a completely different level. The only way Collins should ever be allowed in a MLB ballpark again is with a ticket
-
I have a 3.5 hr ride home, so I'm leaving. Will listen to the game on the radio. Talk to everyone when I get home.
-
Well sure, as long as they can get someone semi competent without trading top prospects/young MLB talent, sure. Otherwise keep up the rando stiff rotation.
-
Exactly they can replace him with any rando stiff they can get off of waivers, and I really don't care.
-
This is infuriating to me. They're really a Mickey Mouse operation, aren't they? Why the fuck do we even root for this team? I wonder sometimes.
