Steve Stone with a dose of reality for Sox fans
Jack Parkman replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't think you understand my expectations. If you say you're going to spend on elite talent, you better land one. If you're not going to do that, then send out a press release saying where you're going to spend that money instead, like in the analytics dept, hiring more player development guys, etc. -
He's had 4 drafts so far, 2016-19. He took a lot of college guys high and they should be here more quickly. That is why I'm critical. A college player should be in the bigs in 2-3 seasons. It is time to start evaluating his 2016 draft and it looks like crap. Burger is a lost cause, and that is just bad luck. I give him a pass for that one.
-
Theo has nothing to show for pretty much all of his drafts with the Cubs outside of Bryant. The one other top player he traded to the Sox(Cease) What I ask for is to get one guy that looks like a player, per year, on average. You can have 4 shitty drafts and an awesome one where you get 5 guys and that is ok.

It doesn't even have to be their first round pick, and I know that baseball is the biggest crapshoot of them all. At some point, you have to hit on some of these guys. They have virtually nothing to show for their 2016 and 2017 drafts. If they hit on some lower round players instead that would be one thing, but it is mistake after mistake. I don't blame them for Hansen as those are the kind of risks you're supposed to take in the second round, but dammit don't come up empty two years in a row. Is that too much to ask? They have no T100 guys from either draft. They have interesting players(Collins, Sheets, Gonzalez, Lambert) but not much beyond that.

I hope Hostetler is getting whacked. He sucks. Collins, Burdi and Burger were all huge misses. I don't like taking players that are limited in some facet of the game with top 5 picks. Madrigal and Vaughn both fit this category. They both can still be good players, but I feel like that is a waste of a top 5 pick. Those guys are players you take at the back of the top 10.

Steve Stone with a dose of reality for Sox fans

The lack of transparency is infuriating too. At least they're dropping hints now and being a little more transparent. Something tells me if they left a lot of Sox fans would be more relieved than sad. -

This. Nice post. Nobody in their right mind trusts Jerry, Kenny and Rick to pull off signing the players they need in order to win. JR seems content running the Sox as a small market outfit. If you're going to do that, take the damn money you were going to spend in FA and pour it into player development, scouting and analytics. And for god sakes don't ever let a player with value walk for free unless you think they have a damn good shot at the WS. Start doing A's and Rays things. If they were at the very least showing progress on that front, I could live with being cheap at the MLB level. But when you're cheap in every aspect of your organization, at that point it gets beyond frustrating and enters the infuriating stage. Don't channel the ghost of Bill Wirtz. If you're going to be cheap at the MLB level, you must be churning out 4+ T100 prospects annually, with times where you have 7+. Where are the Sox T100 guys going to come from when Kopech, Robert and Madrigal graduate in 2020? -
Gerrit Cole - The Rebuild’s Fulcrum
Jack Parkman replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He was grouped in with the rest for me. After you took position, handedness and lack of versatility into account, I had Bleday, Abrams and Greene ahead of him on my board. I wanted either Bleday or Abrams. I couldn't argue with Vaughn that much, but I was a bigger fan of the other two. Just Imagine Bleday in our system instead of Vaughn. We'd have a guy to pencil into RF with a LH bat, something that everyone has been looking for. Also, Collins and Sheets are options for 1B. It was a much better organizational fit. -

Quintana was another guy I couldn't figure out. It turns out he got figured out by hitters eventually. -

No, the Sox would have had to have drafted Kelenic last year. -

I don't think the Sox have a prospect in the minors outside of Robert that could headline a deal like that. Vaughn is the closest, but I still don't think so. What's crazy is I think Jarred Kelenic could. I'm not a fan of Hostetler so far. Haven't been a fan of any of his picks. -

Momentary brain fart, but I'd be ok trading him as well. I'm not as high on Vaughn and Madrigal as most here are. -

I would be open to that too. Out of the guys left in the minors, only Robert is a no-go. (I consider Kopech an MLB player because he's on the MLB IL and was up when he got injured) -

The issue is that the Sox aren't going to be able to trade for those guys without giving up key prospects like Vaughn and Robert. They would be robbing Peter to pay Paul. -
My opinion: Sox need to make another megadeal
Jack Parkman replied to The Ultimate Champion's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I wouldn't consider moving those two until next summer at best. Also, if you're not going to spend money for even 2nd tier FA, then you might as well keep trading guys. The A's have the right idea for small market teams. Trade guys with two years left, or if you're far away from winning, three. -
They really need to lose more games then, lol.

It all depends on what they do this offseason. Should they strike out again, I'd listen on Giolito and Moncada, but only for a package similar to the Sale deal, headlined by players that are a season or two away from the Bigs as of this very moment. It would suck to have to do that, but the window with those two would be so small at that point, that if they keep up their current performance the Sox won't pay them anyway. It could be beneficial and innovative. You're probably kicking the can down the road another year or two but it would make for a larger window. If they were to trade those guys, the critical mass would line up in 2021, and you'd have a good 5 year window to win. Interesting thought. If the Sox aren't going to be ready until 2021, then it should be considered. I hate saying this as Gio and Moncada are my two favorite players on the team, but I root for the laundry. This is an interesting idea and it is probably something the Rays or A's would do, which makes it more intriguing if they're going to be a small market team. -
Yeah, I'd be at a 2-3 myself.

Where are the Sox at right now? Still top 8?
