Shit, They're not going to win a game in Tampa. 0-11 very possible. -

What a joke. -
This. It's all about the Benjamins. Something the FO seems to fail to grasp.
-
I don't know what to think, they have never proven that they can land a big fish unless said player is a giant prick(Belle)
-
Well of course not. The interesting decision will be Moncada, Robert or neither.

Official NHL COVID season thread

There's no spot for both Perlini and Nylander. Perlini should be traded, but they shouldn't just give him away. They should be able to get similar value to Burakovsky. -

You can count Cease and Giolito as of right now, so that makes 5. Lopez is a maybe. Robert and Madrigal are close. Breathe. -

Yogurt!? I hate yogurt! Even with Strawberries!

Not yet, but I fear they won't do so when the time comes. I also fear that they're going to attempt to fill out the rotation through the system or dumpster diving.

It would be really nice if the Sox would sign some of their own guys out of this rebuild. But, as long as current ownership is in place, I'm highly skeptical. I can't help but think that if Frank Thomas were 5 years younger, that he wouldn't have been re-signed either. He might have been a special case where because he was a 1B/DH, it allowed the Sox to keep him. I really wish the Sox would quit operating like they play in a small market, and instead act like a mid-market team. I don't think they can afford to be the Dodgers/Cubs/Sawx/Yankees, but I do think they could behave like the Cardinals.

I'm sorry to all for being all over the place in this thread. Let me clarify: Right now, Giolito doesn't have the command or consistency in his delivery to be an ace. Could he get there eventually? Maybe. In the Sox rotation, he's going to be their #3 In terms of league wide? He's a strong #2. I have concerns about him being inconsistent from season to season. Whoever said Trevor Bauer has the right idea. He's going to have seasons where he'll pitch like an ace, seasons where he'll pitch like a #4, and seasons in between.

I told everyone that if the young players go through any sort of growing pains, this was going to look a lot like Kansas City's window. I just hope that they're smart enough to learn from KC's mistake of not selling off their guys in their walk year. The Sox have a chance of extending it if they trade Giolito and Moncada, and anyone they sign this offseason in in the 2022-23 offseason for MLB ready pieces. They can extend a few years by adding those guys to an existing core of Kopech, Cease, Robert and others(hopefully Vaughn and Madrigal)
-
If you can pair him with Colome, and get a prospect like May you do it. Tommy Kahnle got Rutherford, who was a top 50 prospect at the time. I look at that trade as two different ones: Salary relief and Kahnle for Rutherford.
-
When you're a seller, you always sell high on guys like Aaron Bummer. Relievers are incredibly volatile from season to season. Not trading Fry last year was a huge mistake.

Watch how hitters react to Cease's curve and slider. There hasn't been enough of a sample size yet, but it is something to watch. -
I decided that it was too harsh. I definitely have Cease and Kopech ahead of him. Someone brought up Trevor Bauer and it made me reconsider.
-
When I said that, I meant I have Cease and Kopech definitely ahead of him at this point I don't think he's a "true talent" #3-4 but I think he could end up that in the Sox rotation. You're going to have arguments of consistency vs. pure upside between him and someone like Dunning. In terms of true talent, he's probably a #2 or #3, fluctuating from year to year Whomever said Trevor Bauer has the right idea.
-
Btw in Cease's start today watch how hitters react to his curveball vs his slider. He might be similar to Giolito in his slider is a more effective out pitch than his curveball. The difference is that Cease can throw his curveball for strikes.
-
^^^ This. We have to let it play out.
-
The only way Giolito can pull off being an ace is if he can repeat his delivery. It seems like it has always been a problem, and maybe he's going through a dead arm period and he's become out of whack. I can safely say at this point that his upside is a strong #2 but I don't know if he's ever going to be consistent enough.
-
It's not just that. His command started to falter during his game vs. The Yankees and he hadn't found it since. He's so out of whack now that he's throwing 92-93 again so that is an issue. You know he's right when he's hitting 97 multiple times in an outing. He's way off right now.
-
Based on the fragility of his delivery, I can say he's a safe bet to be a #3, will have years where he pitches like a # 2, and he will pitch like an ace for stretches. He's probably always going to be inconsistent and maddening to people, because you see the ace in him but he can't keep his shit together long enough to actually pull it off. He's going to have stretches where he's absolutely dominant and stretches when he's average or worse. The truth lies somewhere in between. I say this as one of his biggest fans. It is what it is.

Sox @ KC - 715pm CT (Giolito v. Junis)
Jack Parkman replied to ChiSox59's topic in 2019 Season in Review
Even when Giolito was getting lit up by the Cubs he was getting a ton of swinging strikes. Those disappeared today against a really bad offense and that is cause for concern. Everyone knows I'm Giolito's biggest fan on this board, but he looked like 2018 Giolito today. I wasn't worried about regression until today.
