But the good news? Moncada is doing Trout things. Where's our Mike Trout?
-
I agree, except I'd have Cease and Kopech swapped. I'm more impressed with Cease's arsenal as opposed to Kopech's.

Colome remains with White Sox, who always had ample interest in him
Jack Parkman replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You don't know that, I said "might." It completely depends on how much they've soured on Tucker and how much they want to win now. -
He'd get incredible attention if he was a 2B. I think it is actually a good thing, what I meant is that it sucks that there are so many more established 3B that are awesome that overshadow how good of a season he's having. If Moncada was having the same season at 2B he'd have been an all star. He's the victim of a numbers game. For the Sox, once they struck out on Machado, 3B was a huge hole organizationally and they filled it in the best way possible. however: Moncada: .308/.364/.908 Machado: .266/.339/.828 It worked out just fine. The only question is how much PetCo is depressing Machado's numbers vs. what they would be at GRF.

If you could package Abreu and Colome you might get Tucker from them. It would be worth it. Tucker would fill the RF hole, and is a LH bat. Tell Jose to go win a ring and come back in the winter. Houston's one lineup hole has been 1B for as long as I can remember. -
100% agreed. Moncada's prime should allow him to be a top 3 3B in the game.
-
3B is stacked throughout baseball. It blows that his best position ended up being 3B, but it is what it is. The Sox had a huge hole there organizationally and they filled it with an awesome player. If Moncada and Devers are roughly equal offensive players moving forward, Moncada will always be overshadowed by Devers because Devers plays in Boston. Moncada>>Devers defensively, but it isn't like that will matter much to the national pundits. Devers is also 2 years younger than Moncada and it is questionable how long Devers is going to be able to stick at 3B, while Moncada will probably stick at 3B his whole career.

It was a weird thing. My experience is strictly UX QA. I don't know Java or SQL or anything like that. I didn't realize this when I left my old company, but the skills I learned there are useless outside of that company. I know basic C++ and MATLAB and that's it. I haven't used those skills in a decade. I'm not sure that I want to do that for a living. I hated staring at a screen for 5+hrs per day.

I'm a hell of a lot better communicating in written form vs. verbally. It just is what it is. I'm looking for a decent career at this point, but I need to make money as quickly as possible. If money was no object, I'd go back to school and pursue that meteorology degree that was always one of the things I wanted to study. I'm concerned about going into one of those types of fields, because you kind of need a PhD to get anywhere and at this point in my life I can't afford to give up 8 years of it to pursue that. I just need to find some way to get a damn 40 hr per week job that pays a living wage. That is literally all I want out of life at this point. I only care if I hate my job if I can't be independent and live the sort of lifestyle I want to live. I'm not interested in starting a family, so long-term earning potential isn't as big of a deal as it otherwise would be. I need a boss who is willing to put up with my admittedly steep learning curve and wait it out. The other thing I actually am not sure I have admitted is that I have never held a full time job in my life, nor have I ever even received a job offer for one. So I have that little issue to overcome as well. The most frustrating thing for me is that the things I've always wanted most as an adult (a full time job, my financial independence and a long term gf) just seem out of reach for me and it is frustrating beyond belief. It is really hard to keep putting yourself out there when you never get that one break that you need in any of your goals.

If the Nats need bullpen help, I'd do something around former 1st rounder and top prospect Erick Fedde, if he's not injured. He would immediately slide into a rotation slot and still has upside at age 26. Throws 97 mph too, just been lit up in the majors so far. Good change of scenery candidate. They could throw in Fulmer as well for a small add. That is a reasonable target for Colome, IMO. -
When they need to open up a 40 man spot he's among the first names on the DFA list.

White Sox vs Cubs 1:10 PM Nova vs Hendricks
Jack Parkman replied to Kyyle23's topic in 2019 Season in Review
I'm glad that an ALC team is not that team that owns Giolito. In a given season, there is a chance that Giolito never faces the Cubs. The maximum he'd face them is twice. He owns ALC opponents and I'd take that 7 days a week and twice on Sunday even if it means he might get bombed in his 1-2 starts vs. the Cubs. Every time we needed Sale to win a big game against the Indians or Twins he was a lock for 4+ ER. Giolito owns the ALC, and that is far more important. -
Out of all of the late round HS picks, I wanted them to sign Britt the most. Oh well.

Pierzynski to call Sox/Cubs game Saturday with Kasper

Was disappointed in his performance today. Too much deferral to the PBP man. He's light years better as a studio analyst than in the booth. -
Will Nick "The Little Magician" Madrigal be called up this year?
Jack Parkman replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yes it used to be and now they've gone too far in the other direction. Overcorrection. It is fairly obvious to me that Robert and Madrigal could be up after the ASB and be fine. I was OK with them taking their time when the 1st wave wasn't established. Now that they are, the priority has shifted to window maximization. -

Which is exactly why I made the Hull comparison. Hull did some things above and beyond being a Nazi sympathizer to make him a first class asshole. But yes, that is where I was going. -

No, if he's their #2 they're fine. He still got a lot of swinging strikes. There's no stuff deterioration or anything. He's really good but loses his release point from time to time. If I'd have to make determinations right now, I'd say Cease will be the staff ace, Gio is the #2 and Kopech is the #3. All are capable of carrying the team from time to time. It is a good problem to have. Literally Giolito's two worst outings all season were against the Cubs. That makes it look worse than it actually is. He gave up 4+ ER 4 times all season and 2 were against the Cubs. I hate it as much as everyone else. -

So anyway, my 5 grueling starts comment was to those that are never happy about anything and claim Gio is a mental midget. I'd argue that the amount of thought and work he put in this offseason into getting where he's at right now proves he's anything but. Gio has openly admitted that he's pretty unathletic, and because of that he's going to lose his release point from time to time. It is probably going to keep him from winning any Cy Young awards, but he's probably going to be a strong #2 with stretches where he pitches like an ace. I am fucking tired of people who b**** just to b****. Take that shit to PM. The Sox are about to get really fucking good and all they want to do is piss and moan. -

No dude, I admit he sucked against the Cubs. He's given up more than 3 ER in a start only 4 times all season. 2 of them came against the Cubs. This was a grueling stretch for a guy just finding himself. I'm not making excuses or anything for him. He's human and that is all. Every pitcher gets lit from time to time. Shit happens. I just hate that his two worst outings of the season happened to come against the fucking Cubs. I'm going to have to hear about it for 12 fucking months. I'm not happy either. -

I think people underestimate the mental and physical effect of facing top 7 lineups in baseball in 5 consecutive starts. Each and every start he had to give 100% attention each outing, and any guy in all of those lineups can hurt you. There was zero margin for error, and I think if these 5 starts were spread more evenly over the year you would have seen different results. This stretch of offenses he faced would have been taxing on just about any pitcher ever. He had no start where he could work out any kinks in his delivery without getting lit. I think he's done a decent job given the circumstances. It sucks worse because his two horrible starts were against the Cubs. The last 5 starts were: Yankees, Sawx, Cubs, Twins, Cubs. -

I have decided it is time to quit worrying about Giolito's velocity in the early innings. I think he is pulling a Verlander.
