  1. Again, didn't know. Just saw he was the highest rated prep lefty.
  2. You didn't like Chris Sale? I kid, I kid. Don't know much about him, just saw he was the highest rated prep lefty.
  3. Tools. He has contact issues, but the tools are off the charts. I think he's a good complement to Vaughn in the 1st round.
  4. That is a gray area. There are things that you look for. What I meant is that production isn't the end all be all until the majors.
  5. People don't realize how special Frank was. That is taking his ceiling as a draft prospect and busting through it. Frank Thomas, as a pure hitter is one of the top 10, if not top 5 right handed hitters of all time.
  6. I'm of the opinion that this is a crappy draft for guys I like. I'm fine with Vaughn, hope he rakes. To be honest, I really wasn't crazy about anyone other than Adley and Witt. Whichever guy they took if those two were of the board I'd be fine with. In the T10, 3-10 were meh to me. This may sound crazy, but I trust people who are paid for their opinion more than mine on this. My whole argument about Vaughn wasn't that he is a bad pick, or even the wrong pick. It is more about the notion that he's "safe" when he's anything but. There has been a misunderstanding about me absolutely hating Vaughn, and that couldn't be further from the truth. I take exception to those that think he's safe. That is all. I've been expecting them to pick Vaughn since Spring traning.
  7. I don't underrate him, I just lament the fact that he's a 1B. That's all. Bat is awesome, not arguing that.
  8. ? I never thought of it that way. What good is putting balls in play if you hit it to the defense every time? You gotta get hits man. To me, a 70 hit tool should be hitting at least .330, if not .350+ in A+.
  9. I bet it is going to be either the Astros or Diamondbacks that crush my dream.
  10. Honestly, I question production until the MLB level. You never know until you get to the highest level. AAAA players exist for a reason.
  11. I trash Madrigal because he was supposed to have a 70 hit tool and he's not showing it. I like Madrigal, I'm frustrated he's not hitting like he should. I was in favor of that pick. Never expected any HR power, but did expect tons of 2B and SB, with elite 3B numbers. I did forget about his wrist injury, so he's excused until now. He better start hitting for average. Madrigal so far is exhibit A for volatility of amateur hit/power tools.
  12. It is, but Jared Mitchell won CWS most outstanding player in 2009 and won a NC with LSU. He had college accolades too. Jared Mitchell probably would have been a really good player if injuries didn't derail his pro career before it got started. Probably a poor comparison, but that is one that sticks with Sox fans a lot, especially on this board.
  13. BTW this entire board wanted the Sox to pick Trout in 2009.
  14. Dude, I'm talking about Mike Trout the HS player not Mike Trout the best player on the planet.
  15. I'm not even religious, so pray was a poor choice of words lol. I agree with you, I'd be shocked if he made it past the Comp round.
  16. I am the complete opposite. I think that production is a fool's proposition until you get to the highest level. Ask NFL teams how taking producers worked for them. There is a reason why Danny Wuerffel and Jason Smith were late round QBs. Those guys won Heisman trophies at QB. They did jack shit in the NFL.
  17. Praying for Misner to make it to the Sox. I have a feeling the Yankees or Sawx will take him though.
  18. I wasn't in the draft room. It was a toss up for me with Bleday and Vaughn. I would have gone Bleday based on what I know. If they're KLaw on Vaughn(70 hit, 80 power) I am fine with Vaughn. If they were MLB Pipeline on Vaughn( 60 hit, 60 power) I would have gone with Bleday. Based on MLB pipeline and Fangraphs scouting reports, I would have chosen Bleday, as I thought he was safer with similar upside and a left handed bat.
  19. Just 20 years of being a diehard baseball fan and a prospect nerd. I trust FV much more once they've been in the pro ranks for a full season, rather than as an amateur. A lot of it has to do with the Aluminum/Wood transition and quality of competition. When you're in the pros, You're facing everyone's Friday starter. I'm a math nerd and get really into the numbers. If you have the Davenport projections of Vaughn and Bleday, that would be great. I don't know where to get them.
  20. @Look at Ray Ray Run I wasn't saying that Vaughn had no upside, as much as I was lamenting how much of it was mitigated by his position on the diamond. Listen, I completely understand why they made this pick. They had to have thought that Vaughn's bat was light years ahead of Bleday, which is fine. They have to be proven right. He absolutely has to rake. ( I hate the term "mash" and much prefer "rake") As long as he hits piss rockets and makes pitchers look silly, it is fine. I agree that for position players, hitting comes first and defense second, however I don't like taking players whose entire value revolves around the two most volatile tools in the amateur-pro transition in the top 5. Personal philosophy. There is a really good chance that his power and hit tool won't translate like they think it does. If it translates, and he's actually a 70 hit/80 power guy then it is a wonderful pick. I happen to think that hit and power are the hardest tools to accurately scout amateur position players on and a lot of times you end up wrong. I'd rather pick a 55 hit/60 power guy with plus defense and arm(Bleday) than a guy who has his entire value in hit/power. My argument isn't that Vaughn doesn't have bigger upside, but it is more that they absolutely have to nail this pick and I'd rather have someone with a larger margin for error. I think Vaughn's is razor thin. This is going to be their last top 5 pick for a while and it might be their last top 10 pick for a while, so success is key. This is the upside pick here, but it reeks of Jared Mitchell upside and not Mike Trout upside.
  21. Paul Goldschmidt stole 25-35 bases per year in his 20s. Vaughn isn't going to do that. Honestly, most likely his ceiling is Konerko with an outside chance of Bagwell. Frank was otherworldly and probably a top 10 hitter in baseball history. He was right there with Jr and pre-roids Bonds. You never expect anyone to be Frank Thomas.
