  1. Even if they don't add anyone they can still win the ALC just by not beating themselves on a semi-regular basis. I could see them maintain their payroll level if they do make the postseason. I understand the Juan Soto threads. It's fun to think about. I'm also 99% sure it's not going to happen. It's really hard to expect them to do anything with the constraints from ownership.
  2. Tony, we've been following this team for 20+ years. We know how ownership/the FO operates. It's not like the fans can vote to make Jerry sell the team, so quite frankly anyone expecting more than a playoff appearance from this ownership/FO is going to be sorely disappointed. Would we like to hold them to a higher standard? Sure. But it's Jerry's team, not ours. He can run it however the hell he wants. The only thing we can do is choose not to consume the product, which...since we're all on this board, we have decided not to do. Until there is a new braintrust with the Sox, anything more than a playoff appearance is gravy. It's hard enough to even get those. If we're going to continue to consume White Sox baseball, it's best to accept what constraints ownership puts on the team and hope for the best around those. I'm sitting here on the keyboard, complaining about the Sox trading minor leaguers to go for it this year, when I know that's what they're going to do. I should take my own advice and try to hope that they don't trade too much and go for inexpensive targets.
  3. Again. Stand pat at the TDL and hope for the best. Re-evaluate after the season. This might be a bit of a Debbie Downer but after this season I expect Reinsdorf to mandate a payroll cut. I don't really think they're going to do much in FA besides re-signing Abreu.
  4. No, it is completely the point. The only thing buying does is make the Sox future worse.
  5. The Sox have been the dumbest org in baseball for at least 20 years. The players come and go, dumb baseball persists.
  6. If the record books say 2020 counts, it counts.
  7. Touche. I said beating, not beating off. I will always laugh at a good McGuire whacking off joke.
  8. Starting to coming around to enjoying the ride with this group, because I know they won't do what I think they should (pull the plug and start over now) and instead will ride out this core through 2025. Hopefully Robert scratches the surface of his ceiling by then so they can trade him for a haul when it's over in 2-3 seasons. Plug isn't getting pulled until winter 24-25 at the earliest.
  9. The Sox can still win the ALC even with no reinforcements if they quit beating themselves.
  10. Arkush was saying that he's not a lock to make the 53 man. It's Hub, so TIFWIW.
  11. Even if the kids they drafted/signed don't work out, I completely agree with the process. I was/am a huge fan of Crochet, Montgomery and Schultz. It's not Shirley's fault that Hahn/TLR fucked up GC's development. Paddy is doing a good job given Jerry's constraints.
  12. That depends on how you feel about the 2020 fake season. The record books say the Sox are off the schneid, some people may feel differently. Literally the only things the Sox have going for them right now are Mike Shirley and Marco Paddy. I like the direction those guys are going on the farm. Too bad Hahn will trade all of those guys for mediocre or washed up relievers.
  13. replace football terminology for baseball terminology and the shoe fits.
  14. I mean right now, I guess you could call a playoff appearance as successful of a season that we can realistically hope for given the strength of the AL.
