  1. Moncada dealing with leg soreness. Someone post the tweet Idk how to do it from the app.
  2. Post in this thread where you're sitting. If you want to talk we can meet up in the concourse. I'll be in section 110.
  3. Not really. I've expected him to be the pick since March. Do I disagree? Absolutely. Do I also think he could be a great hitter? Yeah. I'm just nervous about someone who has his entire value tied to his bat. If he's as good as Keith Law thinks he is, then it is fine. If the hit tool or power takes any sort of depreciation in the minors, it is bad. People talk about him like he's the absolute BPA. I'm playing devil's advocate to explain to people that it isn't that cut and dry. I understand why, I'm not disappointed, and I'd only do it if they think that he's light years ahead of Bleday, Greene and Abrams. If it is close, go with the other guy.
  4. Lip, Look at the bright side. They're still miles ahead of where we thought they'd be at this point in the season.
  5. Pessimism/Optimism are a spectrum. You're not either one or the other. It is more gray than that. Last year, you would see me as a pessimist. This year, you'd see me as an optimist. Why the change? Evidence.
  6. I'm not even saying don't pick him, I'm saying you better be damn sure his floor is Paul Konerko if you do. I wouldn't even be disappointed if they take Vaughn. I'd understand why they did it, however I wish they'd avoid him. If Abrams is slipping, I'd rather them take Bleday or Greene.
  7. This is where I'm at: there is always risk with amateur baseball players. It doesn't matter who. Do you want to take that risk on a 1B where his bat is the primary driver of his value? You have to be dam near sure that the guy's bat is going to be elite to take a 1B that high. Any struggles and you're screwed. Also, a 1B has to hit better than every other position to be good. Average MLB hitter isn't going to cut it there.
  8. Frank was the last one. If you're not getting Frank Thomas, it's not worth it. That's my point.
  9. I don't think that Vaughn will be anything close to Frank Thomas. Hurt was in Ted Williams company for a decade. No way in hell you get two of them. No way.
  10. Yes. But I'd still rather him than Vaughn.
  11. Agreed. After Rutschman and Witt there isn't much to be excited about. Take a guy you like for underslot and go spend money later in the draft.
  12. Read this article. It explains why you shouldn't pick 1B in the top 10. There hasn't been a RH 1B taken in the top 10 in 30 years, and the last one was a massive bust.
  13. A 2 win 1B has an OPS+ of 135. 100 is MLB average. He has to be 35% better than the average hitter just to be an average 1B. May I remind everyone of Matt LaPorta? He was a LH bat too. There is a reason 1B don't go top 15.
  14. It doesn't matter how good his bat is in college because he is a 1B/DH. Those guys are a dime a dozen. You don't waste a top 3 pick on one of those unless you think he's a slam dunk HOF player. If they take Vaughn 3rd, he better hit .300 with 30 bombs every year.
  15. Regardless, I think Vaughn is too risky to take top 3. All of his value is in his bat. If he's not a perennial MVP candidate it's a bad pick. I think drafting Vaughn is stupid and reckless. I don't care if he is potentially the best bat in the class. If he struggles at all in the minors he has zero value, even as a trade chip. I wouldn't touch him inside the top 10 most years, and this one I wouldn't touch him until #7 at the absolute earliest. If you're talking about Vaughn as a top 3 pick this must be a historically weak draft class.
  16. Whenever he's played decent competition he's struggled.
  17. My dad and I are going tomorrow. We have ballpark pass tix so I don't know where we're sitting yet. I met @Chicago White Sox at the Kopech game last year. Good times.
  18. We're not going to know what's going to happen until Monday night.
  19. Let's cross our fingers and the Orioles outsmart themselves and take Vaughn.
  20. If it were me making the final call it would be between Bleday and Abrams. I agree with whomever made the Trea Turner comp for Abrams.
  21. I think whoever ends up taking Vaughn is going to be massively disappointed. I have some doubts about his ability based on his performance vs decent competition.
  22. The Indians made more mistakes than the Sox did. The Sox took advantage of zero and the Indians took advantage of all of the Sox mistakes.
  23. His stuff was more crisp in April. The difference is obvious.
