  1. They're the definition of using critical thinking so idk what you're asking for. They do the research so we don't have to. There is a reason why people who work there get hired by MLB teams. Fangraphs is the closest to MLB level info that the fans have so I think it is stupid to not use it. I think it is funny that we were just complaining about the Sox not using data and then someone uses data and you complain because it doesn't fit your narrative.
  2. Read. The. Fucking. Article. https://fantasy.fangraphs.com/velocity-pitch-mix-changes-opening-day/ Posted by Fangraphs: If any stat can be monitored with a small sample, it’s pitch velocity. Fastball velocity stabilized with a sample of ‘1’. Just one fastball is enough to know a pitcher’s velocity going forward. I collected the Opening Day starters’ fastball velocities and compared them to last year’s values. It’s all we can really do at this point in the season.
  3. Yeah, I think he might be injured. idk if it is elbow or shoulder. Hopefully elbow, because those are easier to gain previous level of performance. Chalk another one up to injury.
  4. It's fooled because his fastball was way higher in velocity last year. It looks like Lopez has lost about the same as Giolito did when he first got here. Don't expect anything from him unless he gets his fastball back.
  5. That one was 89 mph. Why do guys get here and lose velo consistently?
  6. I think their player development is still waaaaaay behind the rest of baseball. I'm almost to the point of expecting nothing but complete failure from all Sox prospects because they aren't being given the tools they need to be successful in the majors. I believe it doesn't have to do with the talent of the player, but rather the instruction they've been given.
  7. This is year two of me saying that the game has passed Cooper by. Very obvious. I have no faith in the organization to find a good alternative to Cooper and Steverson. None whatsoever.
  8. I was thinking the same. It seems like Sox hitters always play into a pitcher's strengths and pitchers have no plan of attack against hitters.
  9. Quit giving up hits to fucking Hamilton to lead off an inning.
  10. We need to accept that the Sox are a second rate organization and will continue to be until ownership changes. We can choose to continue to support the team or not. If we choose not to waste time, we need to be prepared to accept the possible consequences of that decision.
  11. I saw 2 at 95 and a couple at 91. He's been mostly 92-93. It depends on the pitcher. Some pitchers have the secondary stuff to get hitters out without the premium velo, some don't. I don't think Lopez is the former.
  12. I hope you're right. I'm going to watch him a bit closer next inning to see if he's flying open. That costs a pitcher velocity, as we've seen with Giolito.
  13. Yeah, but you never know if it is just the weather or not. These guys have to learn how to get loose in cold weather otherwise they can't pitch here. Guys have to be able to pitch in cold weather because it is unlikely to break 60 degrees with regularity until Mother's day, and if the last few years are any indication I wouldn't expect anything warmer than 55 until mid-May.
  14. If Giolito looks awful tomorrow this opening series will have put a damper into all of my optimism. Rodon and Lopez's 1st starts velocity wise leave a LOT to be desired. neither guy is going to be all that effective throwing low 90s. Everything I've heard about Giolito this spring is that he was sitting 95-97 so hopefully he shows that tomorrow.
  15. And people thought that signing a decent RF was a waste of money. Palka is a joke out there. He belongs nowhere near any position on the field.
  16. I think before the season people thought the 1-5 with Eloy was decent. There was some hope for a step forward from Anderson as well.
  17. Yeah these guys aren't that good, but maybe our lineup isn't as good as we thought. I hate KC right now as for the last decade regardless of whether or not they've been good they own the Sox.
  18. That is such an effective out pitch idk why pitchers don't use it more. When Quintana was at his best with the Sox he killed opposing hitters with it.
  19. It is so awesome that the 2 hits through the 1st two innings are by Moncada and Jimenez. More of that please.
