Ri.Justice still loves the White Sox (or is on JR payroll)

I concur on that. It doesn't change the fact that the FO should be roasted on a spit. -

Again, I know what GM speak is. Are you taking me for a fool or something? -

No Hahn said that when the time is right, the money will be there. That was a lie. That is what I'm mad about. If you're not going to spend the money on Machado at age 26, You're not going to spend it on anyone. -

No, I believed none of the twitter stuff, it was a joke. Even from the national writers. I was pretty vocal about waiting until the ink was dry. The only things I took seriously was what came out of Hahn's mouth and what the final numbers were. -

No, you think? I'm also not under that delusion either. We're on the same page here. I know I'm powerless about it. The fact is: THEY FUCKING LIED TO OUR FACES. When they failed, THEY CONTINUED TO FUCKING INSULT OUR INTELLIGENCE. That is what I'm mad about. The hubris involved in the whole process was staggering. -

Again, it wasn't THAT they didn't land him, it was WHY they didn't land him, and the fact they lied to the fanbase. Again, they need to pick a fucking lane and commit to it. Do that and be honest with the fans about it. I'm more mad about the lying than anything else to be honest. As long as our expectations are set accordingly, that is all that matters. -
2018-9 MLB off season free agency thread

Speaking of them, I wish the Sox could move two of their lower level OF for Clint Frazier, who is blocked. Would be a nice upgrade in RF and a potential future piece. -
It is, but it isn't enough on its own.

Ri.Justice still loves the White Sox (or is on JR payroll)
Jack Parkman replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That is why I never expected them to land him. The issue for me comes down to the fact they never made a competitive offer. All I needed to see was that one report that they guaranteed at least $300M in an offer and regardless of whether or not they landed him, it would be acceptable. If you want to be a small market team, fine. The issue is they half ass being both a mid market and small market team. They don't spend the money to land an elite FA when it makes sense, which is what a mid market team would do, and they don't spend the money on scouting/player development/analytics/International FA like a small market team should. They need to pick a fucking lane and act accordingly. If you're going to be a small market team, fine. Go do it like the Rays and A's. If you're going to be a mid market team, fine. Go do it like the Cardinals. Quit trying to straddle the line. -

The current Cubs have 1-upped the Sox from the 90s. They already have made as many playoff appearances in 4 seasons as the Sox made in 20. -

I was talking about position players only. I don't trust Kopech and Cease to stay healthy. -
Best case scenario for Eloy is JD Martinez.

Like I said earlier, the miss on Machado makes it imperative for the rebuild that either Moncada or Robert develop into a 6+ WAR player. They're the only two capable of pulling it off, because Eloy is probably going to top out at 3-4 WAR because of defensive limitations. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, with the off chance that JR had decided that he can't take his money with him. I was skeptical but needed to see the whole thing play out to know for sure. I guess, a leopard doesn't change his spots, as they say. Regardless of whether or not they landed a whale, I needed to see a $300M guaranteed offer to feel better about the rebuild. -
Even so, the fact that the entire rebuild depends on Moncada or Robert becoming a top 10 player in baseball makes it iffy at best. That is why landing Machado was so important. It allowed for some leeway in outcomes for those guys. Now that leeway is gone.
-
Yeah forgot about Robert for a bit. He's kind of an afterthought because the dude seems to be made of glass. If he can stay healthy, you're right. I hope they both develop into stars so that we can bring back the "Fine Cubans" Signature that was once here with El Duque and El Conde. Loved that one.
-
And what's worse, is that when it comes to developing a 6+WAR player the only position player in the org capable of that is Moncada. Eloy is going to top out in the 3-4 WAR range because of his defensive limitations. Moncada is the key to this rebuild, IMO. He has to be a star otherwise it won't work at all. Even if Moncada is a 4 WAR player, it isn't good enough. The bad news is that the success or failure is all on his shoulders, and that is a lot of weight for him to bear.

They deserve to get ripped a new asshole, dude. I'm not mad they didn't get Manny, because I never expected him to come here anyway. I'm mad HOW they blew it. The fact they were that close and let the Padres swoop in at the last minute and steal him, was telling. The fact they never offered $300M guaranteed when that is what he wanted to sign, is inexcusable. Everybody knew what it was going to take in November. If you would have told me that the Sox only needed to offer 10/300 in November I would have taken it and run. Any offer less than $300M wasn't serious, which means there was only one team that was actually serious. They lied to the fanbase about multiple things, and it is going to be incredibly difficult for the fans to take these clowns seriously in FA. They've proven they're only actually in on B-/C+ FA, which is basically dumpster diving. That being said, there are valid lifestyle and baseball reasons to choose the Padres over the Sox, so I can't blame Machado for signing there, even if the money was equal. That is all I wanted to see, that the money was equal. I wanted to see if they would go over $300M. When the answer was no, that told me they're not serious about landing elite FA. -

Sullivan: No matter how much $ is spent, it's never enough for fans
Jack Parkman replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This article is insulting to his readers. Shove it up your ass, Paul. Yes Paul, the fans are greedy and the owners are just scraping by. Sullivan has proven he's just as far removed from reality as JR and company. -
If you could describe the Phillies fanbase as "engaged" you can describe the Sox fanbase as "enraged"
-
Idk where to put this, but pnoles nails it.

Both are accurate, as is the word delusional.

That is what I do right now. You can't make a living doing that. Cars are too expensive and you'll end up running it into the ground way too quickly. You'd have to buy a new car every 3-4 years, and that isn't realistic. You can't pay off a car that quickly. I did some math, and it really isn't viable for anything more than extra money.
