  1. This post rules. What's happening now, is happening now.
  2. It would add it over the remaining 6-7 years of the deal. I guess it would depend on which one Machado agrees to? Also, the 40M is to keep the term down.
  3. I think it will end up as a 7/220 with a swellopt that makes it 8/260 or 9/280.
  4. Very rarely. Climate Change FTW. I'm a wee bit of a weather buff.
  5. There should be compounding bonuses...the Owners are never going to give up 6 years, because sometimes it takes a prized prospect 2-3 years to figure it out(See Hosmer/Moustakas/Gordon from KC for reference) KC would never have had an opportunity to win a WS with only 4 years of team control. Those guys would have been free right about the time their window opened. What can happen is that they can have a compounding bonus structure from years 2-4 so that if players perform, they get paid handsomely for their actual performance that year the following year. If they keep on performing, the bonuses get really lucrative. At year four the team has an option to sign the player long-term or go to arbitration. If the team goes to arbitration, they get him for one more year, and at the end the player is completely free. There is no negotiating with said player until they hit the FA market. If player and team do not agree on value on a long term deal, they get a 6th "franchise" year in which the player gets paid an average of the top 5 salaries at his position. Same rules apply here, where the player is guaranteed to hit the open market if they can't agree to an extension by 6/30 of the 6th year. Player can be traded as a rental, but same rules apply to acquiring team. No negotiating with the player until FA period starts. Also, all team/player options in a contract extension become mutual. Both parties want to have to keep their option or else the player is free.
  6. If you want to get excited about 2019 for the Bears, read this twitter thread
  7. Who doesn't miss this all-timer? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5onz33dAj8
  8. I will be truly shocked if they got a deal done for 7/220 with no opt outs. There couldn't be a better deal for the Sox. It would be insanely team friendly.
  9. From a logic standpoint I don't disagree with anything you've said here. I guess the reason why I'm down on some of these guys is that they play in the Sox system. They haven't developed a decent position player since Crede. I have hope for everyone on that list except Collins, but they're going to have to start developing some of their own guys before I give them the benefit of the doubt. Most of the past decade is fresh in my mind, and I can't let go of their MiLB failures until they start developing players of their own.
  10. This is your spot to b**** and moan about GarPax, Parkey, Seabrook's contract, etc. Optimists welcome to talk others off the ledge, but enter at your own risk
  11. This thread is to have a place to get your negative energy out and not poison other threads. It would be appreciated if some optimists showed up every now and then to talk us all off the ledge.
  12. I know this was a while ago, but I'm going to start a Chicago Sports therapy thread so that we can keep intelligent discussion in the right places and it gives us a spot to be Eeyore about our favorite teams as well, without annoying other posters. It would have been nice. I'm also going to start a Sox fan therapy thread so that we have somewhere to b**** about the team.
  13. I'm not being extra pessimistic because I actually think all of those guys suck.... I really liked Rutherford when they traded for him, but he looks a lot like Ryan Sweeney right now. I've not understood Collins for a couple seasons now. I wasn't always sold on Kopech as a starter, but he answered all of the questions I had in 2018 before he got injured. Cease has done nothing but improve since he got traded here, Eloy looks studly. Robert oozes talent, just like Moncada. However, none of that means anything until they do it at the MLB level. None of the Sox draft picks are anything to write home about since they started the rebuild. I don't know what they were thinking with Collins. I really want to like Madrigal, but....If both he and Moncada are good......where's he going to play????? I don't want to move Moncada to 3rd until he has a good season at the plate. Both Moncada and Giolito tore up the minors before they got the call up and have done jack and shit since they've been here. I still believe in their talent, but it is up to them....Moncada could be anything from Jose Ramirez to a complete bust. Giolito could be anything from a strong #2 to a complete bust. They have to put it all together. I am really questioning the Sox pro and amateur scouts right now. It seems like the good players are of the blind squirrel/ nut variety. 2018 could not have realistically gone any worse.... The only rebuild player to have a semblance of success so far at the MLB level is Lopez. I really want to believe, but I have to see more. I believed a lot more at this time last year than now. I went from giddy to cautiously optimistic. At this point I'd give them a 60% chance of success. One more year of non-development and injuries though, and I don't think it will look very promising at that point. God forbid Eloy comes up and struggles....
  14. Moncada hit, at worst, .278 in all of his time in the minors. His worst season in OBP in the minors was .378 Tell me how that mattered when he got to the Majors? Moncada is a very cautionary tale for Collins.
  15. Kopech and and Dunning are injured. I'm not a huge fan of Madrigal, but at least they didn't take Singer. (For ironic purposes I will laugh if Singer turns out to be a better MLB player than Madrigal) Nobody knows what Robert is or isn't yet. Collins is bordering on being a non-prospect and Rutherford is headed that way. RE: Collins-I can't see a hitter that has that hard of a time hitting for average in the minors doing anything but look like 2011 Adam Dunn in the Majors. I don't care how good his eye is supposed to be, you have to put bat on ball.
  16. I don't think he's that far off from reality. I could buy that. After Eloy it isn't that good.
  17. Would you trade a lesser OF for him? Someone like Gonzalez or Walker?
  18. Does anyone else think that the Sox might do a trade like Palka for Jose DeLeon? Deleon is a former top 75 prospect who is coming off TJS and is already 26. Tampa is absolutely loaded with SP options.
  19. People are starting to consume sports differently. They're starting to root for the name on the back of the jersey as well as the name on the front. They have their favorite team and their favorite players, and I guess that is helping them through the lack of competitive balance.
  20. There aren't enough barf emojis for this game for so many reasons.
  21. Tree to tree in the turd. Foley and Olczyk approve of this game.
  22. I'm at the point where you make upgrades regardless of whether or not they land Machado or Harper. You just leave open 3B and RF in case they land either. If the Sox grab an OF, it would have to be someone who can play CF and also has an arm for RF. If you're going to sign Gio Gonzalez, just do it.
