  1. All other things aside, I believe KW/Hahn and GarPax are equally bad at their jobs. Just like GarPax squandered Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler, KW and Hahn squandered Sale/Quintana/Abreu. I could at the very least give GarPax a bit of a pass because Rose got injured. Nobody got injured with the Sox. They were just bad. Also, while the jury is still out on Madrigal, the Fulmer/Collins/Burdi/Burger picks look questionable at best, and that is being kind about it.
  2. I think that both the Sox and Phillies are targeting Machado and Machado only. Both the Sox and Phillies are loaded with corner OF, and I don't think the Phillies would have signed McCutchen if they weren't completely out on Harper. I think the Sox would shift to Harper if they fail on Machado, but only under that circumstance.
  3. Do you not remember the KW/Ozzie drama? How quickly we all forget.
  4. Maybe. A lot of the Sox hopes ride on Moncada, Jimenez, Robert, Kopech and Cease. If those guys don't live up to expectations, or 4/5 don't, they could be in trouble, and right back where they started: a 78 win team of stars/scrubs, but without the team friendly contracts to bail them out.
  5. They pretty much are though if you think about it. The Sox are the Bulls if there were another, more popular NBA team in town, that actually won games. The Sox FO is not quite as bad as the Bulls, but it is close. Just like GarPax should have been fired when they failed, Hahn and KW should have been fired in 2016. Both have been around for the better part of this century. (KW has been at least the GM since 2000, Paxon since 2003.) KW/Hahn=GarPax and you can't convince me otherwise. Hahn has been asst. GM since before the Sox won the WS. Both pairs of FO members should have been fired years ago, but I digress.
  6. This sounds like Machado and Harper are using the Sox for negotiating leverage and nothing more. Seems like neither are remotely interested in signing here, but they aren't going to say that publicly because their market is small to begin with
  7. I think Covey could be fine as a long man/spot starter. I think that is where he has to carve out his niche in the bigs, though.
  8. Pomeranz has made too much sense for too long. Idk what Hahn is waiting for. Shelby Miller would have been a nice thought. I'm not really interested in anyone else other than Gio Gonzalez or Clay Buchholz.
  9. Bowman is on fire. Maybe Q had more say in roster construction than what we were led to believe.
  10. Thought that for a while actually. He just doesn't mesh with Markkanen, Dunn and WCJ.
  11. While LaVine is a good scorer, i'm not sure his best role in the NBA isn't one of the best 6th men in the league. He just seems like the 1st guy off the bench to me.
  12. I wonder how long this thread would be without going off on different tangents and only talking about Machado?
  13. Yeah somewhere between the end of the WS in 05 and ST 06 his arm fell off. His last fastball thrown in the 05 WS was 94 mph. Then he came out of ST in 06 throwing 85-86.
  14. 2/3 years he was great. After that, he became Flamethrower Freddy. Intimidation had a new name......86mph. (I'm sure all of the SoxTalk oldtimers would get the reference)
  15. This is truth. It would have been nice to have prime Gio Gonzalez as well. He might have been the difference in 2012.
  16. Please, everyone pretend like Tatis was never in the Sox org, because he really wasn't. It is easier that way. They fucked up, shit happens. They traded a 17 YO and he blew up.
  17. Aaaand this is why neither are signing until after SB Sunday. This is just a huge game of chicken between Boras and Lozano. Neither wants to be the first to sign.
  18. I think we've learned the following from this thread: The fans either want full transparency, or don't tell us a damn thing until the ink is dry on the contract or the deal is done on a trade. The bullshit rumors have to stop.
  19. So it seems like it is going to be Manny to Sox, Harper to Phillies. Me likey.
  20. From what I've read, Murray is not considered a QB in the NFL because he's 5-9. NFL teams view him as a WR/RS. He probably isn't a 1st rounder and he probably goes somewhere in round 3 or later, if at all. If all of this is true, he'd make more money in baseball(See: Samardzija) and the chances of him not reporting to A's minor league camp in February is slim to none.
  21. Did they end up extending with Kanny? I remember there being some confusion about whether or not that deal extended through 19 or 20 If they haven't, it's something to monitor for the next few seasons.
  22. Is the Sox deal with Kannapolis up or not? If somehow their A- team ends up being Kane County, I'd gladly cover them.
  23. Again, I don't disagree here. It is a huge problem.
