  1. Mark Gonzales was pretty good with this stuff when he covered the Sox for the Tribune.
  2. He's on the Orioles beat for either the Baltimore Sun or MASN. He was the source of the Sox/Machado rumors last year. This guy is legit. He's the equivalent of Scot Gregor or Chuck Garfein.
  3. Actually if you go look at where he pitched in the minors he was never a high 90s guy. Sure, he showed that in the futures game, but that was a short outing and he was probably amped. Giolito has been mid 90s with plus breaking balls as a pro. He hasnt thrown upper 90s since HS/ pre TJS. Hes always been where he was with the fastball in June through August. He'll sit 93-95 and top at 96-97.
  4. The talent that made Giolito the top pitching prospect in baseball at one point is still there. If Coop can't unlock him, I'm not sure anyone can. It is going to take time.
  5. With Giolito and Moncada, the talent that made them 65 FV prospects at one point is still there. It is a matter of whether they realize their potential. It is up to them and the Sox to help them figure it out.
  6. Actually moving your king loses. h6 wins on the spot. He has to move a pawn first
  7. Position from my game at the club today. I am black. Black to move and win. I messed this up btw and ended up losing this game. Boogua, stfu I know you know this based on your rating.
  8. I agree with addressing the bullpen and rotation. I actually think they're more likely to get Harper because if there is any truth to the rumor that they don't want to play for Philly then where is Harper going to go? It seems the Dodgers don't want him and the Cubs would have to move Heyward to go after him(lmfao) and the Yankees have too many outfielders making too much money. If not Philly, LA, the Yankees or the Cubs, then who? By process of elimination that only leaves the Sox.
  9. I'm beginning to think they're likely going to land one of the big 2. The issue is that the big 2 are holding them hostage.
  10. I wouldn't expect Machado to sign before then either
  11. Anyone else use mob slang in sports references? Fired=Whacked Traded=One Way Ticket Slow(running/skating)=Concrete Shoes Retired due to injury=sleeps with the fishes
  12. Thanks man. You live in Bridgeport, right? I'm an IIT alum and would be glad to meet you there sometime to go over stuff in person.
  13. I hope it is Kikuchi. He'd give the Sox an interesting rotation and if Rodon, Lopez and Giolito take a step or two forward they could win 75 games just on that alone.
  14. I just signed up for the Tim Just open and that was $75. It is close enough to home for me to travel. 20 mins away on the weekends in the early morning.
  15. I've been there before, but Evanston is impossible to get to from my neck of the woods. There is no easy travel route and all require at least 90 minutes because of lack of access to highways. I used to go on Tuesdays after work when I worked in Highland Park.
  16. I played a lot as a kid through 8th grade, and then the kids club I was part of quit, I couldn't drive nor could I find a club on the USCF website that my mom would drive me to. Because of that, I quit playing from 2002-2014. I picked it up again, found a great club, and am just playing my second tournament in 2 weeks, and have a provisional USCF of 1330. I think that is pretty good after taking a 12 year hiatus. I didn't have nearly enough time to put into it after HS, until after I graduated college and failed to find work and needed something to occupy my time again. I always wonder how good I would have become if I didn't quit as a freshman in HS because I was just about to play tournament chess. What do you consider cheap tournaments? I can't find something in the area under 75-100 dollars, and that is just for entry.
  17. A nice late xmas gift would be Moncada and a pitcher at the MLB level(either Lopez or Giolito)to break out in 2019 and Eloy to get called up and become studly immediately.
  18. We aren't too far off from that, tbh. The only place in the Chicago area I can find a decent collection of Sox stuff is at Grandstand on 35th and Canal. Most places will still carry a random T-shirt or Abreu jersey, but other than that, nada.
  19. Yes. If they win another championship or two, and the Sox rebuild fails they can absolutely put the hammer down on the Sox. The Sox might as well not even exist at that point. I don't think it would be even worth it for the Sox to remain in town past this stadium lease at that point. The Cubs would have a stranglehold on the city and there would be exactly zero Sox fans under 35 by 2030. I haven't seen a random kid wearing Sox gear in 5+ years. I really don't think they register to anyone born after 1995. This is the bigger problem, IMO. I never see kids at Sox games. The youngest people that ever see at the games are really little kids and about 25 year olds.
  20. Source? "After the new year" could mean any time between NYD and spring training, so......
  21. Again, disagree. Machado/Harper are going to be playing a big game of chicken, with neither wanting to sign until the other does. I wouldn't be shocked if this drags past Super Bowl Sunday. They're not going to make a decision until they have to, and that would be probably a week or two before spring training.
  22. Thirded. This sucks and it is going to drag out for another month or so....blech.
  23. It is going that way. For the first time, I think it actually makes sense that the players should agree to a cap and floor model. With only the Yankees and Dodgers exceeding the Luxury Tax, whatever that number is seems like a de facto cap for 28/30 of the teams anyway. The huge issue right now is that the stars that reach FA are getting all of the money, and the price of the average to above average player on the open market has gone down significantly.
  24. If neither Harper nor Machado get a contract greater than Stanton's, then there could be a strike similar to 1994 on the horizon, where the players go on strike in August again and refuse to negotiate until winter.
